Xpeng Raised $900 Million to Build Humanoid Robots on a Car Assembly Line

Xpeng's robotics business just raised more than $900 million at a valuation above $6.3 billion, in what the company says is the largest single private round China's embodied AI sector has seen. IDG Capital led it, Gaorong Ventures joined, and Tencent and Alibaba came in as strategic investors.
The money goes toward one machine: a humanoid robot called IRON, which Xpeng expects to enter mass production by the end of 2026.

The Amazon Echo Dot cost $49.99 last week. It costs $79.99 now, a 60 percent jump that Amazon made overnight with no announcement. Fortune caught the change across Amazon's hardware lineup and got the company to confirm it.
Amazon's explanation is the one every hardware maker is giving this year. A spokeswoman said the consumer electronics industry is facing steep increases in memory and storage component costs, and that Amazon absorbed them for as long as it could before adjusting prices across its product lines.

When you hand an AI coding agent a task and it sits there for eleven seconds before doing anything, you're feeling a very specific bottleneck. Not training. Not raw compute. Token generation speed, which is how fast a model produces its answer one piece at a time. Nvidia just put a chip into full production that does almost nothing else.
Announced at Hot Chips 2026, the Groq 3 LPX is an inference accelerator that extends Nvidia's Vera Rubin platform. It's also the first real product to emerge from Nvidia's $20 billion Groq acquisition, and Nebius is the first AI cloud signed up to run it.
AliExpress Was Playing Silent Audio in Your Browser to Track You

A developer noticed his Bluetooth headphones wouldn't hand off from his laptop to his phone. He closed a browser tab and the problem vanished. The tab was AliExpress. What he found digging through the site's code is one of the more inventive tracking techniques to surface in a while: silent audio, played at zero volume, running purely to identify his machine.
It's called audio fingerprinting, and it doesn't need a single cookie to work.

Here's the uncomfortable answer I landed on after digging through more than a decade of firmware updates, lawsuits, and shutdown notices: a company can sell you a product, wait out your return window, and then reach back into it to slow it down, strip its features, or kill it entirely, without anyone ever touching the hardware sitting in your living room.

A Headless Robot Just Ran Faster Than Usain Bolt, Then Drove Straight Into a Wall

A white, headless robot called Tiangong Ultra ran 100 meters in 9.39 seconds on Saturday. Usain Bolt's world record, set in Berlin in 2009, is 9.58. So the machine won.
Then it failed to stop, veered hard to one side, and plowed into a padded wall while spectators moved out of the way. The second-place finisher, Honor's Lightning, crossed at 9.47 seconds, also under Bolt's mark, then lost control completely and had to be carried off on a stretcher. That combination, world-class speed followed by an inability to decelerate, is the entire state of humanoid robotics in one race.

For a couple of years now, the pitch for running AI models on your own machine has been mostly about principle. It's private, it's free, it's yours. All true, and all a little abstract when the thing you actually got was a chat window that answered questions. LM Studio, the app a lot of people use to run open models locally, has been that chat window. Now it wants to be something you can put to work.
The company just launched Bionic, an app for Mac and Windows that it calls "the AI agent for getting real work done with open models." The key word there is agent. Instead of just talking back, Bionic is built to go do things: dig through your code, read your documents, and take actual steps toward finishing a task. And it does it on models you control, whether those run on your own hardware or on LM Studio's cloud.
Moonshot’s Kimi K3 Is the Open Model That Just Crashed the AI Benchmark Party

Here is the question everyone in the AI world woke up asking this week: how far ahead are American labs, really? Alibaba-backed Chinese startup Moonshot just gave a very specific answer with Kimi K3, a new open-weight model that is turning up near the top of some serious benchmarks. The weights land on July 27, and at 2.8 trillion parameters, Moonshot says it will be the largest open model anyone has released.
That size is the headline number, but it is not the interesting part. The interesting part is what K3 does on the leaderboards. On Arena.ai's front-end development test, it ranks above both Anthropic's Claude Fable 5 and OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol, the two strongest proprietary systems on the market. Arena's CEO did not hedge: he called it "the single biggest release of the year" and said it "marks the moment that OSS Chinese models have surpassed US models," noting that Kimi K3 had "BEATEN FABLE" just six weeks after Fable shipped.
