Russell Brand ‘Treats Homeless Man to $630’

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Movies, Kind Acts,

Russell BrandRussell Brand has given $630 to a homeless man.

The 36-year-old Arthur star reportedly saw the man was down on his luck and decided to help him out.

"Russ decided to do something charitable. He met a homeless guy on Hollywood Boulevard, just around the corner from the home he shared with Katy Perry. Russ was with his new girlfriend and they struck up a conversation with the guy. After chatting for a few minutes he decided he wanted to get him a roof over his head for a few nights. So he went over the road and withdrew $630 for him. When Russell handed over the wad of cash, the fella had tears in his eyes. Russ told him to spend it wisely and to make sure he says 'Hello' if they ever cross paths again," a source told The Daily Star.

Meanwhile, the comedian has introduced mum Barbara to new girlfriend, model Nikolett Barabas. The trio were spotted helping Russell house hunt in Los Angeles over the weekend following his arrest for allegedly throwing a paparazzo's iPhone through a window last week.

Angelina Jolie with Robert Procop

Actress Angelina Jolie has teamed with Robert Procop to create a new jewelry line. Jolie has designed a collection with statement stones for Robert Procop Exceptional Jewels and wore one of the pieces - a faceted black spinel necklace bezel set in rose gold - to the Berlin premiere of her film Salt earlier this year.

"Angelina has very classic style. These are pieces she wears herself," Robert, a former Asprey's chief executive who has designed for the actress for 10 years, told WWD.

Pieces from the collection - which will be priced individually - will be sold privately through the designer's network of clients, with all proceeds going to the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, a charity co-founded by Jolie that aims to help children who are the victims of war and natural disasters.

Stewart Rahr, a pharmaceutical billionaire, must have really been jonesing for a Lady Gaga tweet.

The mogul donated a whopping $500,000 to assist in AIDS research, thus ending the social networking ban many celebs took in order to raise money.

The Digital Death campaign has managed to get a lot of attention since it started on December 1 ... and from the right people, it seems. Alicia Keys, Kim Kardashian and Elijah Wood were among the stars who digitally died for the cause.

2010 Holiday Gift Guide Giveaway: Alpaca from the Oxfam Collection

We've been listing a bunch of gadgets and toys in our 2010 Holiday Gift Guide, but we've heard it said many times that the holidays have become, like, "so commercial." Hey, we aren't ones to turn a shiny new gadget away, but we also understand that sometimes it's better to help those who are in serious need. That said, we wanted to point you to Oxfam America. The company allows you to gift a tangible charitable gift to a family in need, as their goal is to help put an end to poverty and injustice. We're talking about real animals here. You can donate a dozen baby chicks, a goat (or a full tribe of goats!), sheep, cows, honey bees, and more. Heck, you can even donate manure. We wanted to help get the word out, and to do so, we're gonna give away an alpaca.

Alpacas are doe-eyed with cashmere-soft fur and flourish at altitudes well over 10,000 feet. Because few other animals are as hardy, these camelids are vital to Andean communities. Your gift of an alpaca meadow ensures plenty of nutrient-rich grass to help herds weather tough winters. And that means a lot to families who rely on these critters.

Yeah, we also like them because they look absolutely ridiculous...and seriously, who gives away an alpaca? We do. The winner will receive a code that they can redeem on the Oxfam website, allowing them to donate an alpaca for free to a family in need. If you win, you can even gift that code to someone else, we just want it to be put to good use.

Here’s how to enter:

That’s it! Remember, you’ve gotta have a Twitter account (they're free), and you’ve gotta be following the Gear Live Twitter account so that we can send you a DM if you’re the winner. This one is only open to residents of the US. We will be announcing a winner on December 10, so you’ve got the rest of this week to qualify.

Comedy Central’s Night of Too Many Laughs

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, Specials, Cable, Video,

Stars like Tom Hanks, Betty White, David Spade, Maya Rudolph, Cedric the Entertainer, George Clooney, Jason Alexander, Zack Galifianakis, Drew Carey and the Geico gecko (to name just a few) crowded onto a single set to answer phones for Comedy Central’s Night of Too Many Stars: An Overbooked Benefit for Autism Education -- and they were just the in-between act. The cable network outdid itself on Thursday night, interspersing live phone segments with the pre-recorded, gala event held weeks ago in New York City.

Highlights from the pre-recorded theater event include the tuneful moment that reunited event host Jon Stewart with former Daily Show contributors Stephen Colbert and Steven Carrell. The latter two delivered a rousing song written for 2008 about Captain Sullenberger. The “Chocolate Rain” YouTube sensation made an appearance, and the song was so good even Jon Stewart was compelled to join in mid-chorus.

Jennifer Lopez Shoots Gucci Campaign With Her Kids

Jennifer Lopez and her kids at the Gucci shootJennifer Lopez is set to star in a new Gucci campaign alongside her two-year-old twins. The singer-and-actress and little Max and Emme will be the faces of the Italian fashion house's new children's fashion line, with the campaign being shot in July by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.

According to WWD, the images feature a sun-kissed Jennifer and her children wearing Gucci clothes and accessories, including sunglasses, while playing on the beach. As part of the campaign, Gucci will make charitable donations to UNICEF and the Maribel Foundation, a charity founded by Jennifer and her sister, Lynda. Jennifer had previously said she is keen to keep her family life private as much as possible because she knows too much attention could have a bad effect.

"We're not ones to parade the kids around. Marc is really adamant about that. He's really protective. We don't want them getting used to that life. It's a weird existence. I used to be of the attitude, many years ago, that I would just live my life and not care. But at the same time, you shouldn't just throw caution to the wind, because there are consequences to that lifestyle."

Frugal Shopper Selena Gomez

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers, News,

Selena Gomez refuses to splash out on expensive clothes. The Disney starlet is very sensible when it comes to her money and doesn't see the point of paying out for designer items when she can get something similar for much less.

"When it comes to shopping I love a bargain. I don't usually spend over the $20 mark. I feel so much better buying a top for $20 that isn't so different from the one that costs $200. It's really rare that I buy something expensive, and if I do, I think about it over and over before splashing out."

When she goes to glamorous events, the <i>Wizards of Waverley Place</i> actress borrows designer outfits because she knows she won't wear them again: "When you see me on the red carpet, I'm usually in outfits that I've picked out and borrowed, and that I probably won't wear a second time, so I give them back. Normally the outfits are too expensive for me to own anyway."

One dress she won't be giving back is the gown she wore in her music video "A Year Without Rain," as she is auctioning it off for charity. "It's a beautiful dress. It was obviously a very important part of the video - we wanted it to be very beautiful and very flowy and I got so many great comments on it so I thought it would be awesome to give it to charity." The profits from the Catherine Dean dress will go towards UNICEF's mission to help underprivileged kids worldwide.
