The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Hits Switch 2 on November 5, and You Can Hum the Songs
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Video Games, Videos,
The highest-rated game on Metacritic is getting rebuilt from the textures up, and Nintendo finally put a date on it. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time arrives on Switch 2 on November 5, worldwide, as a Switch 2 exclusive. Today's Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct brought the cinematic trailer you see above plus roughly 15 minutes of gameplay, which is a lot more than the teaser we got back in June.
I've played this game more times than I'd admit to a doctor, and the detail I keep thinking about from today is the microphone. You can hum a song into the Switch 2 and Link's ocarina plays it back. A 28-year-old game found a new party trick.

9 Smart Home Upgrades That INSTANTLY Improve Your Life (Video)
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Smart Home, Videos,
You don't notice how much friction lives in your house until someone points it out. You dig for keys every time you get home. You cross the room for a light switch that's always on the wrong wall. Your blinds offer blinding sun or total darkness and nothing in between. None of it feels broken, because that's how houses have always worked. I've been deleting that friction one piece at a time, and these are the nine upgrades that did it, from a $40 smart plug to one that costs a lot more than I'd like to admit.

The Xbox Disaster Microsoft Never Recovered From (Video)
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Microsoft, Video Games, Videos,
Microsoft spent a decade building Xbox into the console everyone's friends owned, then burned it down in about an hour. On May 21, 2013, Don Mattrick walked onto a stage in a white tent on Microsoft's Redmond campus and spent the first 30 minutes of the Xbox One reveal talking about TV. When a reporter asked what people without reliable internet were supposed to do with a console that phoned home every 24 hours, he told them to buy an Xbox 360. Xbox still hasn't recovered, and I think the reason has less to do with that stage than with what players were doing at home.

You Don’t Own What You Bought. Here’s the Proof. (Video)

You bought the thing. It's sitting in your house. The box listed the features, you paid the money, the return window closed. So you own it, right? Here's the uncomfortable answer I landed on after digging through more than a decade of firmware updates, lawsuits, and shutdown notices: a company can sell you a product, wait out your return window, and then reach back into it to slow it down, strip its features, or kill it entirely, without anyone ever touching the hardware sitting in your living room.

I Built the Most Unreasonable Mac Desk Setup! (Video)

There's a version of this desk that makes sense, and this isn't it.
Four Apple silicon Macs. A terabyte and a half of unified memory. Six docking stations. A chair with actual motors inside it.
I record and edit every video here, test hardware here, and spend a completely unreasonable percentage of my life here when I'm not traveling. At some point the question stopped being what do I need and quietly became what happens if I stop saying no.

How Xbox Destroyed Game Pass - The Best Deal in Gaming (Video)
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Microsoft, Video Games, Videos,
Microsoft spent more than $80 billion buying video game studios, and the Xbox division now runs at roughly a 3% profit margin. Park that money in a high yield savings account and you would have done better. That is the punchline everybody reaches for, and the conclusion they draw from it is that Game Pass was the mistake. I think they have it backwards.

The Clayface Trailer Turns a Batman Villain Into a Full-On Horror Movie
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Features, Movies, Videos,
That is a genuinely strange pitch, and it might be the most interesting thing DC Studios has tried in a while. Clayface is a full R-rated horror origin story built around a classic Batman villain, and the trailer is far less interested in capes and punch-ups than in what it feels like to watch a person come apart from the inside out.

Apple Just Won AI (and It’s Not Even Close) (Video)

Apple may have just won consumer AI by being last, and here is the twist that makes it interesting: it did it without having the smartest model. ChatGPT is more powerful. Claude is better at complex reasoning. Apple even leaned on the tech behind Google's Gemini to help train its own models, and after promising a revolutionary Siri back in 2024 and then failing to ship most of it, Apple had every reason to be the company nobody trusted with AI. But while everyone was writing them off, they quietly rebuilt the Siri that had been broken for 15 years, and after spending time with the beta, I think that changes the whole equation.

The LEGO One Piece Teaser Is Exactly the Goofy Detour This Story Needed
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Movies, Toys, Videos,
There is a particular kind of joy in watching a deadly serious adventure story get handed over to a pile of plastic minifigures, and Netflix just leaned all the way into it. The streamer dropped a teaser for LEGO One Piece, a two-part animated special that retells the first two seasons of its live-action pirate show entirely in brick form. It looks every bit as gleefully silly as that sentence sounds.
The special lands September 29, and the premise is smarter than a cash-in usually gets to be. Instead of a straight replay, it uses Usopp as the narrator, walking a wide-eyed Tony Tony Chopper through everything the Straw Hats got up to across the East Blue and the Grand Line. If you have never touched One Piece, that framing is basically a friendly on-ramp. If you have watched every episode twice, it is a chance to see the whole saga from a new angle, in a form that refuses to take itself too seriously.

Watch Styropyro Turn Mercury and Neon Into Lightning in a Bottle (Video)

The result looks like something out of a wizard's workshop: a hand-held tube that flickers and crackles with light every time it moves. And the wild part is that the basic trick is not new at all. People have been watching mercury glow in the dark since 1675, long before anyone had the faintest idea what electricity actually was.
