CBS Borrows a Page From Fiction

CBS LogoIn a new “Lord of the Flies”-esque reality creation from leading network CBS, children from ages 8 through 15 will create and administer to their very own society. And you thought teenagers and tweens were already scary – imagine giving them total control. Thanks to CBS, you don’t have to – you can just watch the action (safely) from your couch. That is…if you even want to.

The show will probably be called Kid Nation, though the title has yet to be officially decided, and will run for thirteen episodes on the most-watched network. Originally, Kid Nation was going to be a summer show (summer is the king of all reality seasons), but CBS execs thought the show could amount to much more if run during the fall (and prime TV) season. The show isn’t officially on the fall schedule…but that doesn’t mean it won’t make an appearance, just the same.

Brace Yourself for High School Musical 2

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Kids, Music, Cable, Cable/Satellite,

High School MusicalHigh School Musical took teeny boppers by storm when it debuted on The Disney Channel in January 2006. I oughta know—my niece is addicted to all things High School Musical. I finally got the chance to watch it with her over the Easter weekend and it wasn’t bad. Oh, to be sure, it wasn’t good either. But if I was a little girl, this movie would hit the spot. Well, fans… the second installment of the feel-good musical is on its way. The movie is actually filming right now, and will air August 17. If the sequel does half as well as the first (which was seen by 100 million people), you can bet there will be a third edition in the works (not to mention CD’s, ice shows, merchandising, etc). The whole gang returns for High School Musical 2: Sharpay, Ryan, Gabriella and dreamy (if I were 10) Troy.

Are Ten-Year-Olds Smarter Than You?

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Kids, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, Gossip, News, Ratings,

Jeff FoxworthyLeave it to FOX to ask the question no other network dares: Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? Most adults would say yes, of course. In a new big-budget game show (a deviation for FOX, a network that relies largely upon animated series, intense dramas, and reality TV) college grads will be pit against a class of five fifth graders in an effort to test their general knowledge smarts. There’s only one catch: all of the questions range from first to fifth grade class teachings. The show will run every night this week after FOX’s mega-hit American Idol, in an effort to boost up ratings for the fledging program. Cute little nine, ten, and eleven-year olds, a famous redneck for a host (Jeff Foxworthy), and plenty of money to throw around (the prize for answering only eleven questions? One million dollars) – FOX is banking on a hit. Think you’ve got what it takes to beat fifth graders at school trivia? Then you probably aren’t watching the show.

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Kids, Cable, Talent, News,

Steve IrwinIn what has turned out to be sad and shocking news, the man known as The Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin, was killed while filming an underwater documentary. While swimming in Batt Reef in north Queensland, Irwin was killed by a stingray barb that went through his chest (although, one doctor thinks he may have suffered from a form of cardiac arrest, as this type of stingray injury is extremely rare.) Steve Irwin was 44, and is survived by his wife Terri, and children Bob and Bindi.
