NFC North Week 15 Predictions
Posted by Charles Mitri Categories: Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, Tennessee Titans, Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, Editorials,
The Chicago Bears just made the race for the NFC North crown a bit tighter with a 27-24 win over the Saints Thursday night, giving them an 8-6 record and a half game behind the 8-5 Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings travel to Tempe to take on the Arizona Cardinals. Sure the Cards have a lock on the NFC West title, but they have yet to face the Vikings defense which will shut down Arizona’s running game. Nor have they had to face thunderback Adrian Peterson. This one has massacre written all over it. Peterson will post a 200+ yard game and at least one rushing touchdown. Minnesota’s front four will wreak havoc on the Arizona ground game. Look for the Vikes to jump out to an early lead and pour it on the anemic Cards. Vikings by 14.
The Green Bay Packers travel to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars. Now that the Packers are eliminated from winning the Black and Blue division and a playoff berth, about all they can do is salvage a .500 season. Easier said than done. The Packers have lost more than a fair share of close battles this season - an overtime loss to the Tennessee Titans, a last minute nail-biter to the Vikes and last week’s flub to the Houston Texans. If the stars were in alignment, those three losess converted into wins would put the Pack at or near the top of the division. Alas this just doesn’t seem to be Green Bay’s season. Jacksonville is out the playoff picture too, but they have home-field advantage and Packers have trouble winning on the road. Jags by 10.
And then there’s the Detroit Lions playing Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts are right in the thick of the playoff race and every game is a must win. Why not host the Lions? They lose to everyone. Every week they find new and creative ways of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Teams all over the NFL must be checking their 2009 schedules to see if they get to play Detroit, which is like getting an extra bye week. This one is money in the bank. Colts by 17.
New York Yankees and Mets Pitching Acquisitions
Posted by Charles Mitri Categories: New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, Editorials, Trades,
It took some fancy footwork and a bundle of buckaroos but the New York Yankees landed top pitching free agent, C.C. Sabathia, to a record shattering seven-year $161 million dollar contract. The Steinbrenners and general manager Brian Cashman enlisted the help of Hall of Famer and former Yankees great Reggie Jackson to ice the deal. Reggie of course was only too happy to - pardon the pun - “pitch” his glory days in the Bronx to Sabathia. Well, it’s the thought that counts, right? Go waving around a $23 million dollar a year contract and it’s a pretty safe bet that that player’s agent will recommend that his client sign on the dotted line.

Sleeper Alert: You May Want to Pick Up Chuck Norris
Posted by Scott Sargent Categories: Editorial, H2H, Props, Sleepers, Talent, Waiver Pick Ups, San Antonio Spurs,

Over his past six games, San Antonio’s Matt Bonner is quietly averaging 12 points, eight rebounds, and two three-point field goals made. Add in his 80 percent free throw stroke, and deeper league teams looking for some small ball help may want to ginger up their roster.
Superman wears Matt Bonner pajamas.
Trade Reaction: Suns/Bobcats
Posted by Scott Sargent Categories: News, Trades, Charlotte Bobcats, Phoenix Suns,
I knew that the Suns and Bobcats were recently placing their players on the respective trading block, but I am admittedly surprised to see the multi-player deal that went down between the two teams. With Charlotte getting Raja Bell, Boris Diaw and Sean Singletary for shooting guard Jason Richardson, forward Jared Dudley and a draft pick, we have some changing landscapes among the ranks.

Ice Cube Theory: Steelers Cool Enough to Win

You may think it’s the Terrible Towels that bring the Pittsburgh Steelers luck. You’re wrong. The Steelers’ fortune changed on Sunday when a fan went above and beyond to demonstrate his devotion to his team. This performance energized the home team in their 20-13 come-from-behind victory over Dallas.

Another weekend just above .500. Not bad but not the strides that would have been nice. The regular season is going to leave the bank in good position to do some things in the post-season.

HP Magic Giveaway: We have a winner - and a second contest!
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Announcements, Features, HDTV, Home Entertainment, PC / Laptop,

Our HP Magic Giveaway came to a conclusion last night, and, wow, we are calling this one a success, as we just got inundated with entries. We first need to thank everyone involved for entering and spreading the word on Twitter, Facebook, and the like. Of course, there can only be one - but if you feel a swerve coming, read on!
First, the winner was chosen randomly out of all valid entries. The person who came out on top of Ashe, with this comment. I’ve contacted him, he replied, and things are good.
Now, about that swerve. In the original contest, we mentioned that it would be awesome if the winner were to give some of those winnings away. After all, it’s the holiday season, and who really needs 3 notebooks, a desktop, and all that stuff? So, the cool thing here is that Ashe has decided to throw some items back into the pot, and he wants us to do a second giveaway! We will get it set up today, and will run it for another week. The winner will get the following:
- HP Mini 1000 (Windows XP)
- Microsoft Office Home and Student Edition 2007 with 3 licenses
- Microsoft WIndows Live
- Corel VideoStudio X
- Kung-Fu Panda on Blu-ray disc, and DVD
That is not too shabby of a prize package right there. Wanna win it? Just head on over to our Gear Live Magic Giveaway page to enter.
Again, thanks to all entrants, and a big thank you to Ashe for giving back.

Former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL Hall of Famer, O.J. Simpson was sentenced to serve at least nine years in prison after being found guilty of armed robbery. Simpson can spend as much as 21 years in prison if he is not paroled due to the number of counts against him. Clarence Stewart, Simpson’s co-defendant in this case sentenced to at least 15 years. For those that thought Simpson was guilty of the 1994 murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and Ronald Goldman, charges Simpson were acquitted of, this must bring some satisfaction to them as it did for Goldman’s family who were in court as Simpson was sentenced.
