Vocal CalendarEven though most electronic devices have a calendar, I still have the traditional paper calendar on my wall.  It isn’t just for the pictures, as I need to be reminded of important dates.  Perhaps this is why the Vocal Calendar is made, which reminds you of important events and dates with a touch of a button, in your own voice.  All you need to do is push the appropriate month and day button, and record the message.  Later on, after you forget, you just hit the “Today” button for another reminder.  Since it has a magnet on the back, you can hang it right on the fridge.

Logitech Unifying Receiver

I’m certain that many of you have the problem of too many devices and not enough USB ports.  Fortunately, is helping to solve this problem with their Unifying Receiver.  It is basically a wireless dongle that is designed to work with many new Logitech products including the K350/K340 wireless keyboard ($59.99/$49.99), as well as the Marathon Mouse M705/M505 ($69.99/$49.99).  Granted, Bluetooth could do the same thing, but those devices are a bit more expensive. We like where Logitech’s mind is at, so kudos to their forward thinking.

Beambox MiLi

The BeamBox MiLi (not to be confused with the Beambox projector,) is a universal charger that has two ports that can power up four devices, as well as a flip out car plug.  Not only that, it comes with interchangeable US, UK, Australian, and European plug adapters and much, much more.  Not bad for a $37 device, and it comes in nine colors.

Will Alsope Alessi Watch

Will Alsop has been designing buildings and public spaces in chic European locales for decades - Hamburg, Marseilles and London to name a few.  Recently he has begun lending his designing eye to Alessi, an Italian design firm responsible for a wide range of products too high-end and/or cerebral for me to understand much less afford.

One thing that I do understand, though, is my need for ironic/retro kitsch - and nothing says retro kitsch quite like a neon green polygonal watch.  If you are looking for something cool and ergonomic that reminds you a bit of the 80’s yet don’t want to wave your nerd-flag too high with calculator watch then this is the timepiece for you.  At $118.48 (83 Euro) it is a small price to pay for a modernized piece of your childhood… if you were a child in the 80’s.  Wow, having to preface that makes me feel old.  Now where is my Prince - Purple Rain concert t-shirt?

Escort Redline scanner

Remember the Fuzz-buster?  No?  Am I dating myself be referencing 80’s tech here?  Well, anyways - welcome to the next generation of police-evading technology.  Escort recently announced its newest model in radar detectors: The Redline.  With the Redline you get a substantially increased radar-detection envelope - 13 miles according to the press release - and can now snub your nose at the law with impunity.  It ships in August and is available for $499.95, a mere pittance to pay for the privelege to personally test the theory of Natural Selection - don’t let cops get in your way from attaining that ultimate pinnacle of street-racing cred: your very own white-cross on the side of I-95!

C100S Polycom Skype CommunicatorMaybe it’s the word “communicator” in the name of the Polycom Communicator, but it reminds me of a certain tool that Captain Kirk used on the original Star Trek series, except the flap is on the other side.

This Communicator enables the user to hold hands-free conversations, using high-quality microphones that can eliminate feedback and echoes.  It hooks up to your computer via USB, and is perfect for Skype conversations or as an external speaker.  You should be able to get the Polycom C100S USB Speakerphone for about $112.

Pioneer’s Ultraslim DVR-XD09 is world’s slimmest

has put out a DVD burner that is so compact, it could easily be mistaken for a CD case.  The company claims the DVR-XD09 is the most compact design yet, and includes all the usual features including reading, writing, dual-layer, as well as DVD plus and minus.  It is powered by a USB 2.0, and has top writing speeds for 8x single-layer and 6x on double-layer media.  You should be able to purchase it this month for $79.99 in August.

Novero TheFirstOne

I’m not certain if the Novero TheFirstOne really is the first headset that the company has put out, but it certainly is a good start if it is.

TheFirstOne features dual-microphone noise cancellation, three-way calling, plus voice dialing with one button press, as well as a talk time of 4.5 hours.  You should be able to purchase it now for about $149 with a car charging cradle, a necklace, a desk stand, a wearable clip, and seven interchangeable ear loops.

Epson Stylus Photo PX650

One of the signs of the times when it comes to printers is that we no longer require a computer to make them work.  This is the case for the Stylus Photo PX650, a printer that is more for digital photographers rather than PC users.

The PX650 features PictBridge support, a memory card slot, for copying and scanning at 1,200 DPI resolution.  It also gives you a 2.5 inch LCD screen, so the user can crop and edit right at the printer.

The Epson Stylus Photo PX650 should be available sometime after September in the US for about $215.  It comes with a pack of photo paper, and the Claria Photographic Ink that the printer uses is supposed to last two hundred years.

AtoD Battery

For those who have been clamoring, nay, shouting for rechargeable batteries to be made more user-friendly and versatile, your day is close at hand.  Enter the AtoD Battery, a brand new memory-foam encased Nickel Hydroxide Rechargeable.  At 1.5 Volts it packs the same power as a AA, but with one substantial difference: its memory-foam casing allows you to shape it to match any size battery from AAA to D.  The starting size is that of a standard D battery, so while it may prove versatile it does present one small drawback: lag time in re-inflation.  Just make sure that you have the size right before you impress your friends by smashing a battery with your bare hands only to discover that your their Wii remotes take AA’s and not AAA’s.

No release date has been named as of yet, but you can expect plenty of memory-foam laced witticisms from your local newscast (“Remember Memory-foam?”, etc.) when it is.  If nothing else, this may portend the re-introduction of ‘D-Battery Night’ at your local ballpark - not even Phillies fans could turn these into weapons.
