Halo 3: ODST Firefight map screenshot blowout
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Bungie, First Person Shooters, Microsoft, Screenshots, Xbox 360, Xbox Live,
One of the biggest updates coming in Halo 3: ODST is the addition of the Firefight mode. Firefight lets you team up with three other friends to take on round after round of enemies. It’s a nice divergence from the standard Halo 3 multiplayer fare, and makes ODST a very attractive package. I was able to spend about 90 minutes playing Firefight yesterday, and I’ve gotta say, I can see this being a new favorite. Firefight is to Halo 3: ODST what Horde is to Gears of War 2 - it allows you to team up with friends against a common enemy, and it doesn’t end until all four of you are dead at once.
We will have our Firefight impressions up in just a bit, but for now, check out all the screenshots we’ve amassed of the maps we were able to check out. There are definitely more, but what we’ve got for you is a look at Crater (Night), Security Zone, and Alpha Site. Have a look at our Halo 3: ODST Firefight Map Screenshot gallery.

This morning, Microsoft hooked us up with an early preview of the next Xbox 360 Dashboard Update. We were able to get a look at the new Netflix features (which no longer require a PC,) the Avatar Marketplace, Game Ratings, Games on Demand, and more. While more coveted features like Twitter, Facebook, Last.fm, and Zune Marketplace won’t be landing until the fall, the update is still a solid one. Here are our thoughts on the next update, which lands on your Xbox 360 on August 11 (or sooner if you apply for early access!)

Japan’s Black Wii Box
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Culture, Nintendo, Special Editions, Wii,
Continuing the trend of Japanese gamers getting the premium Nintendo goods while us in the US just get to watch, Nintendo is set to release a black Wii over in the Land of the Rising Sun. Sure, it’s the same console, but the Wii and WiiMote are a shiny black, rather than the glossy white we are all used to. Oh, and here’s the box. The black Wii hits Japan store shelves on August 1.

What Super Mario Galaxy would look like on high definition Wii
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Adventure, Mods/Hacks, Nintendo, Platformers, Screenshots, Wii,
When Nintendo announced the Wii initially, one of the large collective groans we heard from gamers was in regards to the lack of high definition output. Well, here are a few images to make you lust for that HD Wii even more. The images in our Super Mario Galaxy HD gallery are taken from a Wii emulator that is capable of outputting 720p video. The images look great and all, but I guess Nintendo knows what’s best for us.

The Beatles: Rock Band hands-on impressions
Posted by Alex Lifschitz Categories: E3, Music, PlayStation 3, Reviews, Xbox 360,
By now, you’ve likely seen the hubbub that surrounded the unveiling of The Beatles: Rock Band at the Microsoft presser. Hell, the two remaining Beatles even took time out of their busy schedule of rolling around in huge piles of money and prestige to come onstage for approximately 2 seconds and say how awesome it was. Where does it stand in the growing pantheon of music games, though? Does it innovate? Can it woo new fans? Is it safe? Will it blend?
Well, Harmonix, if nothing else, is dedicated to the music. That being said, they did a fantastic job of doing the Beatles justice, even going so far as to disguise their E3 booth as giant replica of Abbey Road. Yeah. They roll like that.
Hit the jump to check out our opinions on The Beatles: Rock Band.

GameStop rips you off on Wii MotionPlus
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Accessories, Corporate News, Nintendo, Wii,
If you are in the market for the Wii MotionPlus, just make sure you stay away from GameStop. Why? Because they are charging you $5 more than any other retailer we’ve found that sells the device. Nintendo lists the Wii MotionPlus at a suggested retail price of $19.99. While it is just a suggestion, retails chains typically follow the suggested price. However, GameStop is charging $24.99 for the device. Save yourself $5, and buy the Wii MotionPlus at Amazon, cool?

Project Natal demoed live on Jimmy Fallon
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Accessories, Casual, Hardware, Xbox 360,
Project Natal made an appearance this evening on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, with Fallon and his guests getting to try out the controller-less Xbox 360 add-on. Kudo Tsunado was on hand to show off Project Natal, and just like at E3, he was wearing his huge sunglasses despite being indoors. Jimmy Fallon and crew got to slap balls around, and also played a little Burnout Paradise. Check out the video above.

E3 2009: All Points Bulletin (APB) hands-on impressions
Posted by Drea Avellan Categories: Action, E3, Electronic Arts, PC, Reviews, Third Person Shooters,
All Points Bulletin (APB) is a third-person action game from the creators of Crackdown, Real Time Worlds. “Focusing on ‘the three C’s’—creativity, conflict and celebrity” APB gives the player freedom to create anything they want.
Creating your own characters and cars are things we have done before in games like Oblivion and Forza, but APB pushes this feature like never before. When in character creation, standard options like gender, skin tone and other physical features are available for customization. But APB goes a little bit deeper and allows you to pick a hairstyle and how long it needs to be or even pick breast cup-sizes for the girls. Tattoos? They got those too. Design your tattoo art, color and size to place anywhere you want it to be.
