Ellen Interviews From Bed
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, Syndication,
Is this a history making TV event or what? Well, maybe not, but I’m pretty sure that conducting an interview from a hospital bed is a new one. Ellen DeGeneres, who hurt her back over the weekend when she tried to pick up her dog, was instructed to lay flat while she heals. Not one to quit, she carried on with her show—albeit from a hospital bed in her pajamas. Guests had their own hospital bed to lay in during the interview. DeGeneres told her Tuesday audience, “No, I’m not being lazy. I’m forced to bed rest right now. ... And, let me just start by saying I’m on pills.” One of Ellen’s guests was her doctor, Fred Lerner, who advised her to stay in bed for a week. He also added, “I’m hoping in a few weeks, we can see you dance here.” Here, here.

Could Roseanne Replace Rosie?
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, ABC, Syndication, Gossip, Rumors,
After Rosie O’Donnell’s announcement that she’ll be leaving The View, the rumor mills were buzzing about possible replacements. Potential candidates mentioned include Kathy Griffin, Joan Rivers, and Connie Chung, among others. Looks like we have a front runner though with Roseanne Barr, with many speculating that her outspoken demeanor would fill the void nicely. Roseanne responded to the gossip, saying, “I would love the chance to do that… I think I would do a real good job. I’d stir up some real good controversy.” I’m willing to bet after the dust settles when Rosie leaves that the producers (and head Viewmaster Barbara Walters) may just want to steer clear of controversy for awhile. After all, O’Donnell provided more than her fair share of that.

May’s Big Sendoffs
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, Reality, ABC, CBS, FOX, The CW, American Idol, Desperate Housewives, King of Queens, The Bachelor, The CW, Cancellations, Gossip, Renewals,
It’s May, and that can only mean one thing: finales. The official TV season is ending so that summer’s reality programming can begin, but all the hot shows are determined to go out with a bang. Which show will have the most surprising finale of all? Which shows will only be coming back in re-runs? How will they all say good-bye? There’s only one way to find out – but you don’t have to watch them all.
After nine hilarious seasons, The King of Queens cast will say their final good-byes on Monday, May 14 at 9pm ET. The CBS show will get a big send-off to cap off its almost decade-long run, giving fans that chance to laugh at Kevin James and Jerry Stiller one last time. The dramatic hour-long finale will have plenty of tears but lots of laughter, too. Insiders say the show will have a happy ending. The real tragedy behind King of Queens going off the air is that Jerry Stiller will no longer have a sitcom gig – and that man is hysterical.

Brace Yourself for High School Musical 2
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Kids, Music, Cable, Cable/Satellite,
High School Musical took teeny boppers by storm when it debuted on The Disney Channel in January 2006. I oughta know—my niece is addicted to all things High School Musical. I finally got the chance to watch it with her over the Easter weekend and it wasn’t bad. Oh, to be sure, it wasn’t good either. But if I was a little girl, this movie would hit the spot. Well, fans… the second installment of the feel-good musical is on its way. The movie is actually filming right now, and will air August 17. If the sequel does half as well as the first (which was seen by 100 million people), you can bet there will be a third edition in the works (not to mention CD’s, ice shows, merchandising, etc). The whole gang returns for High School Musical 2: Sharpay, Ryan, Gabriella and dreamy (if I were 10) Troy.

American Idol Busted
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip,
Boy, when those American Idols fall, they fall hard. The latest victim is Jessica Sierra, a top 12 finalist from the 2005 Idol run. She was arrested for felony battery charges and cocaine possession over the weekend in Florida. Apparently, she threw a glass at a male customer, then she was “belligerent” at the time of arrest. She was released Sunday afternoon on an $11,500 bond. Post-Idol, she’s faded from the spotlight… I’m sure this isn’t the sort of headline grabbing news she had hoped to earn, because this incident will do nothing for what little of a singing career she has left. She did have one overzealous fan, however, who was was arrested last year after stalking her.

LOST: D.O.C. - David’s Top Five of Awesomeness
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Prime Time, NBC, Lost, Editorial, Features,
So, yes, loyal Internet pals, I’m back. What, you didn’t know I’d gone anywhere? Double what, you don’t even read the names of the authors of these articles? My bad (But you should check out, for example, Veronica Santiago’s Top Model recaps, which are very good. Also, my stuff is uniformly awesome). Anyhow, I (that would be, David L. Williams) am back from my wedding and honeymoon, which where perfect and wonderful. Also wonderful? Both events happened in the central time zone, aka the place where I can once again watch “Lost” at 9pm. Now that I’ve returned to NYC, however, I have to suck it up and stay up a little later. But I’ll deal.
Lost, I’ve noticed, has been taking some hits in the press lately, and here are my two thoughts about this: “Shut” and “Up.” Then again, maybe all of the negative press will drive away the casual viewers who complain to me on Thursday morning that “they really didn’t answer anything,” and when I explain how they’re wrong they’ll say, “Oh, really? I missed a few episodes last month, so I didn’t understand what that one part meant.” Lost should have always been a cult show, but it somehow tumbled its way into accidentally being a hit show, which is good because it means it won’t be cancelled, but bad because, well, because of the people I just mentioned. Anyway. Lost is still head and shoulders better than anything on network TV and every week each episode has at least five awesome things about it (except for the week when Hurley found the van because … what the hell, dude?), so I’ve decided to take it upon myself to list these five awesome things after each episode. Ready? Okay!

Hilary Duff Returns to TV
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, Cable, News,
It’s not another Lizzie McGuire, but Hilary Duff is again making her way to the small screen. The actress/singer who was once the world’s most famous tween will have her own reality show on MTV. Titled This Is Now, the show airs Monday nights at 9:30 and features Hilary living her normal, whirlwind life as she tours with her new album Dignity and lives the life as one of Hollywood’s hip. The singer’s security staff had a scare recently while she was doing promotion for the album. During an interview, a man in the crowd made loud, verbal threats to kill Duff. The man was subsequently tackled and taken down by security, and Duff continued with her regularly-scheduled meet and greets, proving that Dignity is an apt title for her album. Fans who have been dying to get a peek at Duff’s inner world have only to tune to MTV to see her in her element.

Prince Insults Paris Hilton On Stage At Club?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Reality, Gossip, Rumors,
Pop singing Prince has been known for years as having somewhat interesting vocals, crazy fashion sense, and a penchant for rather shocking behavior. It seems only natural that he should partner on stage with Paris Hilton, whose scanty wardrobe is often enough to distract fans from her rather lackluster singing. According to Us magazine, Prince was ready to ignite the stage at Club 3121 at the Rio in Las Vegas less than one week ago today. This is one of the stops on Prince’s latest “comeback” tour, and he crooned to a huge crowd that included Hilton before pointing her out and inviting her to join him on stage. Paris, always elated to be in the spotlight, was quick to join him for a duet. Reportedly, Prince handed Paris the microphone before smiling at the crowd, “Let’s see if she can really sing.” Paris, enraged, stormed off stage and left the club shortly thereafter. So far, the story is not being confirmed by Hilton reps, and Prince’s people are maintaining “no comments” to the media. Did it happen? Does it matter? So, Prince knows Paris can’t sing – everyone who has heard her already came to that realization.
Sanjaya’s Dark Secret
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip, Rumors,
It was only a matter of time before some deep, dark secret from American Idol contestant Sanjaya Malakar came to light. Seems his family was into farming—and not veggies, either. Sanjaya’s mother, Jillian Blith, and stepfather, Charles Quist, were arrested and charged in 2005 for “unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance.” The police found 310 marijuana plants in the garage—ruh-roh. Sanjaya’s sister, Shyamali, was also arrested for possession. Seems the neighbors ratted them out after reporting the smell of marijuana and seeing Sanjaya’s mom “install a large vent on the roof of the garage.” Sanjaya, who would have been 15 at the time, was not involved in the bust. Whether or not this latest news will ruin Sanjaya’s chances of following his music, acting and modelling dreams is unclear. I’m willing to bet his 15 minutes of fame will be running out soon though.

Studio 60 Returns in May
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Drama, Prime Time, NBC, Cancellations, Ratings, Renewals,
There’s a few of us Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip fans left who have been wondering whether the show would be back or not. Let’s all give a collective sigh, because it’s set to return in May. Don’t get too comfortable, however. It’s a pretty safe bet that after the show wraps up this season, this will be the last of it. Hey, at least NBC is being decent enough to finish out the remaining taped episodes, but there’s no telling if these last six shows are going to wrap up anything. Add to that the weirdness that Studio 60 will return at 10 p.m. on Thursdays. It’s a shame this show never caught on with viewers—I think it was interesting and had spectacular writing and acting. Heck, I’m not even a Matthew Perry fan (sorry Chandler lovers), and I couldn’t wait to watch the chemistry between him and Bradley Whitford every week. The show will return on May 24th.
