On Gear Live: Xiaomi 17 Review: The Compact Flagship That Forgot to Act Small

Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown The divorce is final, Bobby Brown is out of the picture, and the stage is set for the one thing that everyone’s been wondering: is Whitney Houston going to make a comeback? Half-hearted attempts in the past have failed, but now the songstress has a whole new reason to reach for the limelight again - she definitely will no longer be a part of Being Bobby Brown – or, for that matter, any other reality programming. So, Whitney’s warming up her vocals and getting ready to do what she used to do best: just sing. Houston is currently in the recording studio preparing to launch her comeback album, which early reports say are very good. Ne-Yo, R & B producer, is currently working with Houston to create some new tracks for her comeback album. Ne-Yo’s other clients include American Idol Dreamgirl Jennifer Hudson, who is also releasing a new album, and Michael Jackson.

No-holds-barred, Ramsay tells twelve competing chefs exactly what he thinks of them and their cooking – and it’s all fabulous.

American Idol logoOK, I don’t want to bust on ‘s “Idol Gives Back” show too much… this was an amazing way to raise money through the highest rated show on TV. But, I felt a little cheated by the failure to deliver the big names they’ve been touting since they announced Idol Gives Back. And the celebs who did appear got very little air time—like Hugh Grant and , who had been announced on the roster of stars for weeks and only (from what I saw) had a small part in that celeb lip syncing of Stayin’ Alive. Truly, there was a lot of performances and footage of African and American kids living in poverty—that’s the heart of the charity, after all. But still, I’m not so sure the massive promotion of stars who didn’t appear was necessary (Borat and Gwen Stefani come to mind). And, I don’t want to brag (well, a little maybe), but I had a feeling as soon as Ryan said this would be “the most shocking result in Idol history” that no one would be going home. It just didn’t seem right to eliminate someone with the whole tone of the show. Next week though—two get the boot!

Sarah Silverman Say what you will about Sarah Silverman, but I really like her. I know people tire of her crude humor, but I couldn’t help watch The Sarah Silverman Program on Comedy Central just to see what she’d come up with next. So, I’m excited to hear that she’ll be hosting this year’s MTV Movie Awards. She told The Associated Press, “Ever since I was a little girl, before it even started in 1980 — MTV — I said, `Someday, I want there to be an all-music channel that gives out awards for movies. And I want to host that show.’” A real wise-ass after my own heart. This year Survivor creator Mark Burnett is taking over the awards show, so this could be a whole new program. Check it out on June 3rd.

Nathan FillionI don’t know what it was about the promos for Fox’s new show Drive, but whenever they were on, I tuned out. As a result, I had no idea what the show was even about. I tried to focus my attention on an ad for it once, but still didn’t understand what was going on. I guess I’m not the only one who tuned out. Drive has been cancelled after only three airings. And I still don’t know what it was about. Some kind of car race starring Nathan Fillion (Firefly), Drive only managed to muster up 5.6 million viewers overall. House repeats will fill the Monday void left by Drive. If you had tuned in for this show, and want more, two remaining episodes may air at some point or be put online.

Alec Baldwin Alec Baldwin wants out of 30 Rock, but it’s unclear if he can get out of his contract with NBC. After his angry ranting voicemail message to his 11-year-old daughter was leaked last week, a lot of people were left with a bad taste about Baldwin. He taped an interview for The View which will air on Friday, apologizing for the way he spoke to his daughter: “Obviously calling your child a pig or anything else is improper and inappropriate and I apologize to my daughter for that. There’s nothing wrong with being frustrated or angry about the situation,” Baldwin said. “It’s the way you do it, and as people often do in this world, I took it out on the wrong person.” Apologies aside, Baldwin also said that he wants NBC to release him from his 30 Rock contract to spare castmates from any repercussions for his behavior, saying, “If I never acted again I couldn’t care less. I would like to devote myself to the cause of parental alienation.” Baldwin is writing a book to shed light on the subject, which he says was the reason for the angry message. If he is cut loose from his contract, what impact will his departure will have on 30 Rock? For many people, his character made the show; it’s hard to imagine anyone else filling his shoes.

Vanessa MinnilloAfter four years on MTV’s Total Request Live, Vanessa Minnillo is calling it quits. Is it TRL‘s change in format to a semi-live program, or her recent shacking up with Nick Lachey to blame? Well, maybe some of both… or maybe neither. Minnillo said of her departure, “I had my four years there like high school or college. I’m ready for the next chapter – what it is, I have no idea. [But] I don’t want to be 48 saying, ‘Hey kids, now it’s Sean Preston Spears’s video.’ ” Good girl, getting out before she’s old and gray. She does have a career in the wings—a makeup line for Flirt! Cosmetics, which will be available in August. “We have two looks going on,” Minnillo said. “You can have that fun rock-and-roll look or an everyday look.” OK, sure. She’ll also show up in the next Fantastic Four. I’m sure she’ll have no trouble finding work. There’s always a new reality show looking for a host.

Rosie O'Donnell The rumblings about Rosie O’Donnell leaving The View finally became a reality this morning when she announced the news on the daytime talk show. The outspoken co-host will be leaving the show in June, just one year after she blew in to fill Star Jones’ vacant seat. According to O’Donnell, she and ABC could not come to a contract agreement—they wanted her to remain on the show for three years, but she only wanted to stick around for one more. Fear not, she will show up from time to time during the next season, at least for an autism special, if not on other occasions. O’Donnell said, “It just didn’t work, and that’s show biz. But it’s not sad because I loved it here and I love you guys and I’m not going away.” While I’m sure Barbara Walters, Joy and Elisabeth are letting out a collective sigh—since O’Donnell turned things upside with her penchant for speaking her mind—it’s unclear how this will impact ratings. When Rosie came on board, ratings took a major upswing. With her departure, who knows? Walters commented, “We have had, to say the least, an interesting year.”

Idol Gives BackIt took six seasons for the producers of American Idol to finally realize that they had Oprah-esque potential to inspire acts of charity.  But better late then never, right?

Taking advantage of their large audience, AI and its sponsors reminded the viewers (and themselves) how superficial a singing contest really is.  In an attempt to lessen our collective guilt and help people around the world—the viewers were given the opportunity to donate to charity simply by doing what they’ve been doing for weeks:  voting.  For every call made tonight, $.10 would be donated to charity—up to $5 million in total.

So in keeping with tonight’s theme, the contestants were charged with performing ‘songs of inspiration’.  But were they successful in getting people to vote for them?  Read on!
