Stars like Tom Hanks, Betty White, David Spade, Maya Rudolph, Cedric the Entertainer, George Clooney, Jason Alexander, Zack Galifianakis, Drew Carey and the Geico gecko (to name just a few) crowded onto a single set to answer phones for Comedy Central’s Night of Too Many Stars: An Overbooked Benefit for Autism Education -- and they were just the in-between act. The cable network outdid itself on Thursday night, interspersing live phone segments with the pre-recorded, gala event held weeks ago in New York City.
Highlights from the pre-recorded theater event include the tuneful moment that reunited event host Jon Stewart with former Daily Show contributors Stephen Colbert and Steven Carrell. The latter two delivered a rousing song written for 2008 about Captain Sullenberger. The “Chocolate Rain” YouTube sensation made an appearance, and the song was so good even Jon Stewart was compelled to join in mid-chorus.

This Week on TV (6/21-6/27)

MONDAY (6/21)
- Saving Grace (TNT, 9pm): “Grace shuts herself off completely from family and friends as a past tragic event continues to haunt her.” Those sex scenes in Crash are going to be hard to live down.
- Behind the Music (VH1, 10pm): “Courtney Love is profiled using interviews and archival clips.” The unused footage will provide VH1 enough material for a whole new series: Rocky Love.
- All Worked Up (truTV, 10pm): “Observing people whose occupations involve communicating bad news, such as parking-ticket writers and tow-truck drivers, and the unpleasant reactions of the recipients.” The first episode will be entirely devoted to BP CEO Tony Hayward.

American Idol 9: Idol Gives Back, Top 7 Results
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Video,
At the top of the Idol Gives Back spectacular, host Ryan Seacrest immediately introduced the President of the United States and his First Lady, Mr. and Mrs. Barack Obama. Two praised the Idol Gives Back event and urged viewers to contribute to the cause. In his typical contemporary fashion, President Obama then gave a message to the Idol contestants: “As Randy Jackson says, you’re all my dogs.”
Ryan then reappeared on stage to introduce the judges and hype up the crowd. Queen Latifah served as the host of the event at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, which was filled with a screaming crowd.
The Top 12 were brought back together for the first group performance of the night, an incredibly weak number. The only big moment in the song was given (predictably) to Crystal Bowersox. Could this show please make it more obvious that they want her to win? I’m not sure the astronauts on the space shuttle have managed to get the message yet - they’re so far away, and all.

New SNL Documentary in the Works
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Late Night, Prime Time, Specials, NBC, Saturday Night Live,
Who knew that there were Saturday Night Live documentaries in existence? Well, it’s news to me, and I consider myself a pretty diehard SNL fan. Through good times and bad, I’ve watched… So, I just read that NBC has ordered a documentary about the show during the 1990s. Cool, I thought, then I read that there were two previous documentaries. Huh? Guess I’ve got to hunt those down because I love that behind-the-scenes kind of stuff. This latest edition is called Saturday Night Live in the ‘90s: Pop Culture Nation and promises to be “funny, dramatic and filled with great clips and new interviews featuring the biggest comedy stars of today. These are the backstage stories that made headlines.” What makes this great will be interviews of former cast members and writers—Mike Myers, Tina Fey, Will Ferrell, Cheri Oteri, Chris Rock, Molly Shannon, Tim Meadows and Jimmy Fallon. You can catch the documentary on May 6th.
