Tuesday Ratings: Viewers Return to Hugh Laurie’s ‘House’

With baseball out of the picture, Hugh Laurie was free to reclaim his reign over Wednesday night’s ratings.

8pm

  • At 17.1 million, (3.7/10 in 18-49 demo) had the hour’s best audience and demo performance. Cane
  • (3.1/9) came in 2nd with 8.8 million viewers.
  • (6.9 million, 3.2/9) was up from last week; (6.8 million, 2.3/7) did better than last week’s Dateline special.
  • Both (6.9 million, 2.2/6) and (7.1 million, 2.4/6) were about even from one week ago.
  • (3.2 million, 1.6/4) was slightly down.

9pm

  • (17.9 million, 7.6/18 in 18-49 demo) had the night’s largest numbers in both categories.
  • (17.8 million, 4.4/11) came in a close 2nd with viewers.
  • (10.9 million, 3.0/7) was down from last week as was (2.6 million, 1.2/3).

10pm

  • (12.2 million, 4.7/13 in 18-49 demo) easily dominated the 10pm hour.
  • A special episode of (2.8/8) drew in 10.9 million.
  • CBS’s (8 million, 2.0/5) dropped another 500,000.

Tuesday Ratings:  CBS and ‘NCIS’ Step In For The Win

Although House fans may have been bummed, several networks were thrilled to see a baseball-filled night on FOX.  With its stiff competition removed, CBS had a rare Tuesday night audience victory.

8pm
NCIS

  • A -less 8pm helped (17.4 million, 4.1/12 in 18-49 demo) score the night’s best audience.
  • FOX’s Red Sox/Indians game (3.6/10) averaged 12.7 million.
  • (6.9 million, 2.7/8) was on par with last week’s numbers; (6.9 million, 2.7/7) was slightly down.
  • Not many viewers cared about Matt Lauer’s exclusive interview with Sen. Larry Craig (5.7 million, 1.7/5).
  • (1.7/5) gained 400,000 viewers and rounded off the hour with 3.5 million.

9pm

  • Without knocking on its door, (17 million, 4.3/11 in 18-49 demo) soaked up another 1 million viewers for the 9pm win.
  • CBS’ (12.3 million, 3.5/9) and NBC’s (6.9 million, 3.0/8) both saw increases.
  • (3.2 million, 1.5/4) was up 600,000 fans from last week.

10pm

  • (12.5 million, 4.8/13 in 18-49 demo) continued its rule over the 10pm hour.
  • (10.2 million, 2.8/8) was about even with last week.
  • (8.5 million, 2.2/6) was down another 600,000 this week.

  • The Big Bang Theory (CBS, 8:30pm):  Welcome the reunion of Roseanne’s Darlene and David.

  • Heroes (NBC, 9pm):  Season premiere.  Rumor has it someone could be leaving the show very soon.

The Week Ahead in TV

Celebrity Duets Now that we’ve gotten past the premieres of Prison Break and Vanished, we can ease into another week of programming highlights:

TUESDAY
Celebrity Duets (8pm on Fox):  The latest Simon Cowell production debuts with Hal Sparks (Queer as Folk), Lucy Lawless (Xena) and Chris Jericho (WWE) among the eight celebrity contestants belting it out for the title.

WEDNESDAY
Bones (8pm on FOX):  Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz return for the show’s sophomore season.
Justice (9pm on FOX):  Victor Garber (Alias) helms yet another legal offering.  I cross my fingers for him.

THURSDAY
MTV Video Music Awards (8pm on MTV):  The awards show finally returns to New York after several years away in Miami.  Hurricane Ernesto is disappointed that it doesn’t have a glam-filled occasion to ruin.
