In this edition of the End Score Report, Dan Devone gives his take on the latest news from the world of sports:

  • NFL Draft: Publications, networks, etc. spend the entire year crunching the numbers, and most of the time they aren’t right, even on the #1 pick.
  • We discuss the draft. JaMarcus Russell should be the #1 draft pick, not Brady Quinn.
  • SuperSonics leave Seattle, possibly heading to Las Vegas if NBA betting disappears.
  • A-Rod out of his mind and going bananas with the New York Yankees - 14 home runs in a month.

Randy Moss
Randy Moss has a new home, and it’s in New England. On Sunday the Oakland Raiders traded Moss to the New England Patriots for a fourth round draft pick. Moss had made it known in recent months that he wanted a trade, so his wish was fulfilled. According to Raiders coach Lane Kiffin this trade was made with the best intentions for “The Freak.”

Rex GrossmanRex Grossman just completed the collapse of all fantasy collapses throwing 4 interceptions and losing 2 fumbles to the Arizona Cardinals defense… and the Bears still won. He threw for less than 150 yards and no touchdowns in one of the worst QB performances of the season.

ESPN must have jinxed him by saying that he had finally arrived on the NFL scene.

Tonight, many a fantasy owner are not the least bit thrilled about being tricked into trusting this relatively unproven signal caller.

Terrell OwensDallas Cowboys WR Terrell Owens is once again in the center of a media firestorm.  However, it’s not about Owens not getting along with a teammate, a coach, or someone in the front office… it’s about Owens this time and him alone.  It was reported early this morning that Owens unsuccessfully committed suicide by overdosing on painkillers last night, for which he had to get his stomach pumped at a Dallas hospital.  According to a Dallas police report, Owens admitted being depressed and even swallowed a couple of pills in front of medical personnel.  Later, Owens held a news conference denying his suicidal act.  He only had a bad reaction to pain medication, which he has had in the past.

All that being said, what are we to believe?

The Saints are back home! The prodigal franchise has returned.

After a whole season playing “home” games at Baton Rouge, San Antonio, and even East Rutherford, the New Orleans Saints came back home last night to New Orleans’ Superdome, which suffered major damage due to Hurricane Katrina.  Due to many factors, including dealing with the destruction of a city, the constant traveling, and an empty place to call home, the Saints finished the 2005 season at 3-13.  After last night’s 23-3 win over the formerly undefeated Atlanta Falcons, the Saints have matched their total number of wins last season and are now atop the NFC South with a 3-0 record.

LaMont JordanFormer head coach, now current head coach, Art Shell is back in the building, after being unceremoniously kicked out the first go around with the Raiders.  But, let bygones be bygones.  Shell will bring some discipline back into Oakland and it will be his way or the highway.  The Raiders in recent years have been prone to stupid penalties and that should change with Shell back.  But there are other more important changes happening.

Last season, owner, Al Davis was hoping to beat teams offensively by airing it out to newly-acquired, Randy Moss, who would team up with another burner in Jerry Porter.  Unfortunately, that never happened for whatever reason.  It’s not like they didn’t have a QB with a strong arm (current Tennessee Titan, Kerry Collins), they just didn’t get it done.

Larry JohnsonThis is the year that RB Larry Johnson finally starts for the whole season and gets down with his bad self.  BUT WAIT!  The offensive line isn’t the same with the losses of Willie Roaf and John Welbourn and a slimmed down Kyle Turley trying to come back after taking a few years off to, umm, I don’t know what – which is pretty much what we can all expect from Turley as the season approaches.  So, how badly will this affect Johnson?

It won’t.
