Randy Moss
Randy Moss has a new home, and it’s in New England. On Sunday the Oakland Raiders traded Moss to the New England Patriots for a fourth round draft pick. Moss had made it known in recent months that he wanted a trade, so his wish was fulfilled. According to Raiders coach Lane Kiffin this trade was made with the best intentions for “The Freak.”

“We felt this was the best scenario for both the Raiders and Randy,” Kiffin said. “We wish him nothing but the best.”

It’s fair to say that Moss’ last season with the Raiders wasn’t exactly productive. He caught and ran for just 553 yards, caught 29 balls for first downs, and scored only three touchdowns.

Moss’ last year with the Raiders was unproductive off the field as well. During a press conference where Moss was being honored for his college success as a kick returner, he famously said: “Maybe because I’m unhappy and I’m not too much excited about what’s going on, so, my concentration and focus level tend to go down sometimes when I’m in a bad mood,” responding to questions about his lack of hustle on the gridiron. Outrageous quotes are the norm for Randy though, as he claimed as a Minnesota Viking that he plays when he wants to play.

Addressing the possibility of an upcoming trade Moss said, “I might want to look forward to moving somewhere else next year to have another start and really feel good about going out here and playing football.”

Perhaps the trade gives Moss a new start for a new football team, but that does not mean he is a new person. He is still the outspoken loudmouth that former teammate Cris Carter almost went to blows with. And at 30 years old its hard to imagine Moss improving his game a whole lot. He has a lot of dog in him, and will not bust his hump everyday so that the Pats can win, but he does have alot of talent, and if he changes his ways, New England’s chances of winning a Super Bowl this year dramatically increase. Tom Brady throwing to Randy Moss will be a welcome sight with Patriot fans. But Moss has to realize that he’s part of the problem as well. He’s got to do less talking and more walking this season to not wear out his welcome this year in the Beantown area.
