Steve Jobs refused Tim Cook’s liver transplant offer

becoming steve jobs

Fast Company has an adaptation of one of the stories from Becoming Steve Jobs: The Evolution of a Reckless Upstart Into a Revolutionary Leader, which releases one week from today on March 24, which you can pre-order now. Here's a short excerpt:

"Somebody that’s selfish," Cook continues, "doesn’t reply like that. I mean, here’s a guy, he’s dying, he’s very close to death because of his liver issue, and here’s someone healthy offering a way out. I said, ‘Steve, I’m perfectly healthy, I’ve been checked out. Here’s the medical report. I can do this and I’m not putting myself at risk, I’ll be fine.’ And he doesn’t think about it. It was not, ‘Are you sure you want to do this?’ It was not, ‘I’ll think about it.’ It was not, ‘Oh, the condition I’m in . . .’ It was, ‘No, I’m not doing that!’ He kind of popped up in bed and said that. And this was during a time when things were just terrible. Steve only yelled at me four or five times during the 13 years I knew him, and this was one of them.

You can head on over to Fast Company to read the full story. Definitely worth your time.

iOS 7 development running behind schedule, Apple pulls OS X engineers to help

iOS 7 delay

Word on the street is that Apple is behind schedule on iOS 7 due to the management shakeup that occurred when Scott Forstall was ousted from the company. Jony Ive has taken over as head of hardware and software design, and with that will come sweeping design changes within iOS. Daring Fireball's John Gruber has gone so far as to say that he's heard that Apple has had to pull engineers off os OS X 10.9 in order to help get iOS 7 ready for release.

It may sound odd, but Apple actually took a similar strategy back in 200, pulling developers off of OS X 10.5 Leopard in order to ensure that the iPhone would be ready on time, resulting in a four-month delay for the desktop OS. Of course, Apple had a lot less software engineers working on iPhone software back then, so it's pretty telling that with the expansive growth, there are still challenges getting iOS 7 out of door.

Ashton Kutcher Hospitalized Prior to Filming ‘jOBS’

Ashton Kutcher on the set of 'jOBS'Ashton Kutcher's latest starring role took a toll on his health.

The 34-year-old actor has revealed he was rushed to hospital before shooting his new movie Jobs about the late entrepreneur Steve Jobs after embarking on a fruit-only diet for the biopic, favored by the Apple co-founder who died of pancreatic cancer in 2011.

He told USA Today at the premiere of the movie at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah on Friday, "First of all, the fruitarian diet can lead to like severe issues. I went to the hospital like two days before we started shooting the movie. I was doubled over in pain. My pancreas levels were like completely out of whack. It was really terrifying ... considering everything."

The Two And A Half Men star studied hundreds of hours of footage of Steve for the role and claims he discovered they had a lot in common.

iOS SVP Scott Forstall leaving Apple along with John Browitt

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Corporate News,

Scott Forstall leaving AppleApple has just announce that Scott Forstall, Senior VP of iOS software, will be leaving the company at the end of this year. That's a big deal, but we called this one when iOS 6 launched with Apple Maps that garnered a huge collective groan from customers across the world. Forstall was seen as one of the front-runners to replace Steve Jobs as Apple CEO, and when Tim Cook got the nod, many figured Scott might be next in line. In addition to the departure of Scott Forstall, Apple retail head John Browitt will also be departing the company at the same time. Jony Ive, Eddy Cue, Bob Mansfield, and Craig Federighi will fill in the gaps, with Cue taking over Maps and Siri, and Federighi leading iOS and OS X. Apple has not yet announced a replacement for retail.

Steve Jobs worked closely on upcoming iPhone redesign, says Bloomberg

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Smartphones, Handhelds,

4-inch iPhone

A few days ago, The Wall Street Journal reported that the next iPhone will have at least a 4-inch display, and the next day Reuters independently reported the same. Yesterday, Bloomberg jumped in with the same report, so it looks like it's a lock. In addition, Bloomberg is also reporting that Steve Jobs "worked closely on the redesigned phone before his death in October."

Interestingly enough, it was Steve Jobs himself who said that no one wants to buy a big phone. Of course, as we've seen with plenty of 4G LTE Android devices, larger smartphones are everywhere. Of course, Apple has some room on the current iPhone form factor to enlarge the display without changing the size of the phone itself too much. Maybe Steve was right--rather than making a big phone, Apple can just make a big display while keeping the device itself relatively the same size.
