Bruins erase Canucks with 8-1 win in Game 3

Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, NHL, Playoffs,

Tim ThomasTalk about a “Luoooong” night for Vancouver Canucks fans. For Boston Bruins fans though, there couldn’t have been a better way to bounce back from a pair of disappointing losses in Games 1 and 2 of the Stanley Cup Final. On home ice, Boston erupted for eight goals – all against Vancouver netminder Roberto Luongo – in a stunning thrashing of the visiting favorites. The pre-game itself features more storylines than any sports section could handle, and by the final whistle, about a dozen more were added to the lengthening list.

Canucks go up 2-0 in Stanley Cup Final

Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, Championship, NHL, Playoffs,

Ryan KeslerThe Vancouver Canucks seem to have found their stride in the postseason. After winning the Presidents Trophy and being the regular season’s top-scoring team, they carried that momentum in taking the first three games against the Chicago Blackhawks in Round 1, but then stubbed their collective toe, almost blowing the series to the Hawks before winning Game 7. It took them six games to finish the Nashville Predators and five games to clinch against the San Jose Sharks, and now hold a 2-0 series lead against the Boston Bruins in the Stanley Cup Final.

Stephen Brunt announces sale and move of Atlanta Thrashers to Winnipeg

Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: News, NHL, Rumors,

Stephen BruntWith a sudden yet staggering announcement, it seems that the Atlanta Thrashers have finally found new ownership. Except those owners happen to be True North Sports and Entertainment – a company who already owns the AHL’s Manitoba Moose and the MTS Centre arena. Stephen Brunt, who broke the news Thursday night, has already taken significant heat for doing his job because, as expected, nobody would allow such ground-breaking news to just take off.

Tyler Seguin learning playoff style quickly

Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, NHL, Playoffs,

Tyler SeguinShame on the Boston Bruins. Tyler Seguin didn’t play in any games during the first two rounds of the playoffs. Knowing that the Tampa Bay Lightning would be a tougher team than any they’d faced so far, they added Seguin to the roster for the Eastern Conference Finals. In his two games in the lineup, Seguin has three goals and three assists already, including a four-point explosion in the second period of Game 2.

Ryan KeslerWith a 2-1 victory over the Nashville Predators on Monday night, the Vancouver Canucks clinched their second-round series and now await the winner of the Detroit Red Wings and San Jose Sharks. Ryan Kesler continued to dominate, putting two more assists on the score sheet and furthering his cause to become the Conn Smythe Trophy winner. Also, the Sedin brothers made a rare postseason appearance and Roberto Luongo put together one of his best games ever in securing the win for the visiting Canucks.

Tampa Bay Lightning complete sweep of Washington Capitals

Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, NHL, Playoffs,

Alex OvechkinWhat does a Tampa Bay Lightning sweep of the Washington Capitals mean? It means the 41-year-old Dwayne Roloson can still mind net. It means the Lightning are going to the Eastern Conference Final. But most importantly, it means that Bruce Boudreau’s coaching career in Washington may be over. His Capitals, who had a better record than any other team in the East, now have a lot of navel-gazing to do as they try to figure out what happened this time.

Vancouver Canucks need to find scoring touch

Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, NHL, Playoffs,

The Sedin TwinsThe Vancouver Canucks forced a relative scoring explosion in Tuesday’s game against the Nashville Predators. Yes, three goals in 70:45 counts as an explosion for a team who hasn’t scored as many goals in a single game since April 24, and have only scored as many as three in four out of 10 playoff games this year. They’ve only managed 21 goals in their 10 playoff games, and have been taken to overtime four times, winning two of them.

Cam Ward keeping Carolina Hurricanes playoff hopes alive

Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, NHL,

Cam WardIt appears as though Cam Ward needs to be flawless. In his last two games, he was exactly that for all but 12 seconds, and it cost his team two points as a result. Ward stopped all 40 shots in a win against Buffalo on Tuesday, but his Carolina Hurricanes fell 3-1 to the Maple Leafs on Wednesday night. In that game, he stopped 16 of 19 shots, but was also utterly useless for a brief moment in the second period when he let in a pair of weak goals a dozen seconds apart.

James Reimer’s Leafs making late postseason push

Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, NHL, Playoffs,

James ReimerThe Toronto Maple Leafs are in the best position they’ve seen in years, and they’re still not in a playoff spot. They currently hold the 10th-seed in the Eastern Conference and realistically, are only chasing the Sabres, Rangers and Hurricanes. Maybe it’s because the Leafs haven’t won a Stanley Cup since 1967, or maybe it’s because the team hasn’t even made the playoffs since before the lockout, but fans in Toronto have been going nuts (more than usual) after every win lately. After Monday night’s loss, the Leafs are six back of the eight spot.
