A lot has been made of the Toronto Blue Jays’ closer situation this offseason, from losing Kevin Gregg, potential ninth-inning man Scott Downs and one-time 30-save guy Jeremy Accardo to reaching a deal with Toronto main-stay Jason Frasor to the acquisitions of Frank Francisco, Octavio Dotel and Jon Rauch. That’s a lot of star power both leaving and entering Toronto’s bullpen. But what few have been talking about is another pick up in former Washington Nationals closer Chad Cordero.

No Nathan? No problem. The Minnesota Twins thought they might have a problem when it was discovered before the season began that closer Joe Nathan needed Tommy John Surgery and was going to miss the entire year. The Twins record holder for saves in a single season was gone, and the organization was going to need a replacement quick if they wanted to keep stable one of the most solid bullpens in the game and return to the postseason.

Jon Rauch Dealt To Arizona

Jon Rauch will no longer be closing games, but he’s going to be a part of a competitive team, the Arizona Diamondbacks. Though the D-Backs have a record at exactly .500 (50-50), they are on top in the NL West division. In exchange for Rauch, the Diamondbacks gave the Washington Nationals second base prospect Emilio Bonifacio.
“I’m extremely excited,” Rauch said. “Coming over to a ball club like this who is winning their division—tied for first I believe right now. It’s a good group of young and old. … I don’t think it could have worked out any better.”
