MSNBC to Lift Keith Olbermann’s Suspension Tuesday
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Cable, News,

Keith Olbermann will be back in his office before his laptop gets cold.
The newsman will be behind the desk on Tuesday, when MSNBC relaxes the suspension he earned for violating NBC rules. (Olbermann donated $2,400 to three different political campaigns: Kentucky Senate candidate Jack Conway and Arizona Representatives Raul Grijalva and Gabrielle Giffords.)
Phil Griffin, MSNBC chief exec, said that Olbermann’s two-day ban was “an appropriate punishment for his violation of our policy.”

Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert Restore Sanity

| Jon Stewart - Moment of Sincerity | ||||
|

Despite the fact that Comedy Central’s Rally was thrown together in only a few weeks, and the fact that it revolved around two late night cable TV hosts, estimates show that more than a quarter million Americans flooded the National Mall for a dose of sanity … and/or fear.
The three-hour event was peppered with filler: a “special appearance” from the MythBusters hosts; musical performances by Ozzy Osbourne, Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow, among others; even a long-winded benediction from former SNL regular “Father” Guido Sarducci -- but there were a few moments of sincerity mixed in with all the comedy.
Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, who approached the rally with typically opposite points of view, faced off against each other in brief skits that felt a lot like a live, daytime version of their late-night talk shows, The Daily Show and The Colbert Report -- but somewhere in the middle of it all, a message did manage to shine through. Stewart’s “moment of sincerity,” his wrap-up speech, is viewable in the video above … and it’s definitely worth a watch.
As he stood before the crowd of 250,000 thousand (or, as he announced when he made his entrance, “over 10 million people,” depending on which estimate you use), Jon Stewart reminded the world that “We live not in hard times ... not end times.”

VIDEO: Zach Galifianakis Smokes Joint During HBO Panel
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Talk Shows, Cable, HBO, Video,
UPDATE: Maher's rep claims the "joint" wasn't real.
Zach Galifianakis may not be a Mel Gibson supporter, but there is one thing he is in favor of: the legalization of marijuana.
During the recent broadcast of Real Time with Bill Maher, the Hangover star surprised his fellow roundtable guests when he pulled out a special prop for the discussion on Proposition 19.
Just in case you were wondering if Zach was simply blowing smoke, conservative commentary Margaret Hoover (the woman seen laughing) verified he wasn’t.

President Barack Obama to Appear on The Daily Show

The Daily Show has officially announced that President Barack Obama will become the first sitting president to appear on the series. The leader of the free world is scheduled to visit the late night talk show Wednesday, October 27.
Obama himself is a friend of the show -- he appeared via video conferencing only days before the 2008 presidential election (view that moment in the clip above).
The president's appearance is surely no coincidence. Comedy Central isn’t exactly a big news media outlet, but in its way the cable network is an active contributor to pop culture and the way people view the political landscape. Strongly left-oriented, Comedy Central’s audience is in Obama’s target Democratic and left-leaning undecided demographic … and the midterm elections are now less than a dozen days away.
Will you be tuning it to hear the President’s message?

The Colbert nation has spoken…will the Comedy Central host answer?
Comedy Central fans have organized their own campaign to prod Stephen Colbert into hosting a “Restoring Truthiness” rally in response to Glenn Beck’s recent “Restoring Honor” rally, which was strongly backed by the GOP.
The idea seems to have sprung from a post on Reddit, and everything has snowballed since. A Facebook page and website have now been created for the rally, which has been given an October 10, 2010 date. A locale for the rally has also been named: Washington, D.C.’s Lincoln Memorial, where Beck held his event. Fund-raising and merchandising will help fund the rally. Any remaining monies will be donated to the charity of Colbert’s choice.

Jane Lynch Cracks a Joke, Right-Wing Bloggers Freak Out
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, Gossip, Video,
Look out, Glee fans (and leftists), the extreme right wing media is having a shitfit.
The LA Times is bringing attention to a conservative website called Newsbusters, which recently went off after the new episode of Glee premiered. Here’s a quote: “Glee is millions of dollars of sound and fury aimed squarely at your children.” And the cast members are going to come into your home and frighten your pets, too!
According to the LA Times, Newbusters has previously attacked Glee creator Ryan Murphy, who “tried to normalize teen homosexuality” through the show. Now, the light-hearted singing show about teen and adult angst is being labeled as “part of Hollywood’s leftist propaganda machine.”

Oprah Snags Sarah Palin Interview
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, Syndication, Oprah Winfrey Show, Gossip, News,

Oh what a difference a year makes.
Two of the biggest female names of 2008 will finally be sitting down for a chat in 2009. Mark your calendars: November 16 will be the date Sarah Palin has her first one-on-one with Oprah Winfrey.
Before last November’s elections, Oprah - who publicly endorsed Barack Obama - had been accused of showing favoritism because she chose not to welcome the VP candidate on her show. Winfrey’s reason? She didn’t want to use her program as a political platform. (Although President Obama had been a guest on her program, his appearances came before he decided to run for office.) Unfortunately, Oprah’s explanation didn’t satisfy many of her female fans.

Bolding going where no man has gone before, William Shatner delivered an amusing version of former governor Sarah Palin’s rambling, confusing goodbye speech to Alaska during an appearance on Conan O’Brien’s Tonight Show. While bongos played in the background and onlookers rolled in the aisles, Shatner offered up the perfect political dis. See the video above!

HBO Offers Free Access to Obama’s Opening Ceremony
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Specials, ABC, Cable, HBO, Cable/Satellite, News,
UPDATE: You can find a list of performers for that HBO program here.
Although most of us are currently without tickets for Barack Obama‘s big day, those with cable or satellite service will have front row seats to the first major event of Inauguration Week.
On January 18, HBO will exclusively air the festivities from the Lincoln Memorial. The program is expected to be filled with A-list performers including a rumored appearance from Bruce Springsteen. Unlike the channel’s coverage back in 1993 (when Bill Clinton was welcomed into office), the 90-minute event will also be open to non-subscribers.
On Monday the 19th, the Disney Channel will be the sole broadcaster of “Kids’ Inaugural: We Are the Future.” The event honoring military families will be attended by Michelle Obama and Jill Biden. Then on Tuesday the 20th, ABC will have exclusive access to “The Neighborhood Ball: An Inauguration Celebration.” That is where the Obamas are expected to perform their first dance of the evening.

Celebrities, politicians and recording artists will decorate the event, meant to celebrate Obama’s swearing in to office. MTV will also choose hundreds of partygoers to give the cameras plenty of great shots.
It is expected that more than one million will arrive in Washington to celebrate the event, and to participate in several inaugural balls being planned throughout the city.
