+ ABC's hit comedy Modern Family has cast Elizabeth Peña (Rush Hour, The Incredibles) as the Pilar, mother to Sofia Vergara's Gloria.
+ Juno writer and creator of Showtime's short-lives The United States of Tara, Diablo Cody, has sold her romantic comedy series to ABC. Alex + Amy "will revolve around a millennial guy and Gen X woman in love." No word on casting just yet.

Russell Brand to Host New Late Night TV Series
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Comedy, Late Night, Talk Shows, FX, Announcements, News,
Russell Brand has signed up to front a new topical late night TV series.
The stand-up comic-and-actor has agreed a deal with cable network FX to present the series on which Russell will give his "unvarnished, unfiltered take on current events, politics and pop culture."
"We're very excited to add Russell Brand's bracingly funny, original, and honest voice to the FX comedy line-up. We look forward to supporting Russell and his partner Troy Miller's ambition to strip down the hosted comedy format to its most fundamental elements and to create something daring and unfiltered for the FX audience," said Nick Grad -- FX executive vice-president of original programming -- in a statement.
The 36-year-old star claims he is "excited" to the "point of climax" about the project, which will hit screens next spring. Making a joke about Fox News political commentator Bill O'Reilly, Russell exclaimed, "I am so excited I'm on the point of climax. In fact, I will put the 'O' into FX, which spells Fox, which is actually the channel's real name. That's the only thing that worries me about all this, to be honest. At least I'll be able to have a Christmas drink with Bill O'Reilly."

President Obama Addresses Nation: Osama bin Ladin is Dead
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Specials, ABC, Cable, CBS, FOX, NBC, PBS, Announcements, News,

Around 10:45 pm EST, nearly every network and cable news network preempted regular programming to pre-announce an announcement made by the President of the United States: Osama bin Ladin is dead.
About an hour later, Barack Obama walked down the long red carpet in the wide main corridor of the White House, and stood at a podium alone to address the nation.
“It was nearly 10 years ago that a bright September day was darkened…” He went on the heart-wrenchingly, poetically describe the horrors of September 11, 2001, an event masterminded by Osama bin Ladin.

Stephen Colbert Starts Twitter War With Senator John Kyl

Stephen Colbert has challenged his nation, and once again Comedy Central viewers have answered… on Twitter.
On his Colbert Report, the host called attention to an argument made by Senate Minority Whip John Kyl (R-Ariz) in which Kyl claimed that 90% of Planned Parenthood’s business is in abortions. Actually, the number is much closer to 3%. By way of correcting the mistake, Kyl’s office released a statement explaining that the Senator’s comment was “not intended to be a factual statement.”

SNL Alum Victoria Jackson Lashes Out at Glee

Victoria Jackson, best-known for her 6-year stint on SNL, summed Glee’s “Original Song” episode up with one word: “Sickening!” She accused the producers of the show of “shoving the gay thing down our throats” and making a “mockery of Christians.”
“Everyone knows that two men on a wedding cake is a comedy skit, not an ‘alternate lifestyle’! There I said it!” Jackson’s comments appear in her column at WorldNetDaily.
Jackson was best-known on Saturday Night Live for her ditzy, blonde characters and high-pitched voice. In recent years, she has been politically active and strongly outspoken against liberal candidates and leftist media coverage. Perhaps ironically, she is a strong supporter of Fox News (which is owned by Fox Entertainment Group, which owns 20th Century Fox Television... which distributes and produces Glee).

Sarah Palin Quits Alaska Show?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Prime Time, Reality, Cable, Cancellations, Rumors, Video,
Don’t act surprised. Rumor has it that the woman who resigned as Alaska’s governor has decided to walk away from her TLC reality show.
It seems that Sarah Palin’s Alaska -- which was based on enjoying everything the state has to offer -- has reached the end of its one-season run. TLC just might have to give Kate Gosselin another show.
TLC has offered no official comment, but producer Mark Burnett has not returned to Wasilla, Alaska to begin work on Season 2. The show nabbed 3.2 million viewers with its premiere, big numbers for cable, and sources say that Palin enjoyed making the show.
So why would she quit while she’s ahead? Most are speculating that the former politician wants to be ready for the upcoming election season, and she just can’t commit to reality TV and being the next president all at the same time.
Be afraid. Be very, very afraid.

The Daily Show's news team was clearly passionately moved by the outpouring of support for the gay community, which has been presented in the form of It Gets Better videos.
The US military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy is a hot topic among legislators right now, and teen suicides of homosexual youths are a rising concern. Many celebrities and politicians have stepped forward to make messages of support for gays of all ages. Comedy Central's contribution? This "It Gets Worse" video aimed at Senator John McCain -- yes, the one who was almost our president.
The "It Gets Worse" video is classic Daily Show, and very tongue-in-cheek. Check it out above!

Keith Olbermann Issues Apology … Sort Of
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Cable, NBC, News,

MSNBC anchor Keith Olbermann, who recently made waves in the media community, issued an apology … or, what’s going to pass for one. The newsman was suspended from the cable news network after he donated to three separate (Democratic) political campaigns -- hardly the stuff of objective journalism.
Olbermann, who hosts MSNBC’s Countdown, apologized to fans for all the “unnecessary drama” surrounding the situation. He says he didn’t know the existence of the rule, which he says is applied inconsistently by NBC. He also stated he was told no form of discipline would follow his actions … just before he was suspended from the network.
