Perez Hilton Responds to Miss California Controversy

Perez Hilton

Gossip blogger and sometime Miss USA judge , who created a firestorm of controversy around the normally sedate pageant, clarified his position during an appearance on Larry King Live.

Hilton became the most talked-about moment of the contest when he asked Miss California, Carrie Prejean, if she believes all states should ratify gay marriage, as Vermont did recently. Miss Prejean expressed the view that marriage ought to be between a man and a woman.

And as they say, the issue hit the fan. Perez responded with an angry video on his blog, Miss Prejean has been all over the media and almost no one is talking about the fact that Miss North Carolina went on to win the whole show (Miss California of the controversial answer finished as the overall runner-up).

She might not be Miss USA, but Nicollette Sheridan is still a winner. Last night’s goodbye to Edie Britt was Sunday’s most-watched event. The farewell helped ABC take first place in both the viewers and the demos yesterday.

Perez Hilton vs. Miss California

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Prime Time, Reality, Gossip, Video,

In what is sure to be the most talked-about moment of the Miss USA pageant, Perez Hilton fired a question to Miss California. Her answer caused the audience to boo and put Perez in a serious snit.

Perez, one of the judges of the event, asked Miss Cali (her actual name, by the way, is Carrie Prejean) about the issue of same-sex marriage, citing Vermont’s recent ruling to allow same-sex marriage licenses in the state. He asked the contestant if she thought every state should follow Vermont’s example, or if they should not - and why.

Friday Ratings: The Numbers Favor CBS

Viewers proved they didn’t care how the US is represented in the Miss Universe pageant. They’d much rather see someone play Plinko.

This Week on TV (4/7-4/13)

The Office

(You can view TV Envy’s Post-Strike Television Schedule here.)

MONDAY (4/7)
  • Today (NBC, 10am):  Kathie Lee Gifford returns to morning TV this week.  And I thought the New Kids were getting old.
  • Samantha Who? (ABC, 9:30pm):  New episode.  “Samantha has to move back into the apartment when she learns that she could be evicted for subletting it to Todd.”  The girlfriend you hate gets amnesia and you get to keep her apartment.  Todd has seriously been getting off easy so far.
  • The Bachelor (ABC, 10pm):  “It’s an afternoon of tennis and tea for six of the ladies.”  I’ve seen what an afternoon of women’s tennis can look like on The Real Housewives of NYC.  This won’t end pretty.
  • Medium (NBC, 10pm):  “Rosanna Arquette stars as an older seductress linked to the brutal murders of two younger men.”  Maybe it’s best her relationship with Paul McCartney fizzled out.

MTV: Behind the Crown

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Reality, Cable, MTV, Gossip,

Tara ConnerWhen I hear about shows like this, I long for the days when MTV stuck to videos – not reality. But those days are over, and now Music Television is giving viewers something never-before-seen: Beauty Queens as TV stars. Gack. Led by former Miss USA Tara Conner (who was very nearly stripped of her crown for alcohol abuse), several pageant queens will crew up on the cable channel.

debuted this week, the first in an eight-part series, and follows the lives of Miss Universe, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA winners. They’ll be roommates…kinda like (which will continue into perpetuity…no matter how sick of it we get). The beautiful girls will live in New York City for one year, with Conner as an “unofficial peer advisor.” Just keep her away from the booze. , who publicly reprimanded Tara but allowed her to keep her crown, will be dropping by Pageant Place to check up on the girls.

This Week on TV (10/8-10/14)

Men in Trees

MONDAY (10/8)
  • The View (ABC, syndicated):  Meredith Viera returns to her old-stomping grounds as a guest.  I’m sure she prefers it that way.
  • Total Request Live (MTV, 3:30pm):  Watch the ‘official’ debut of Britney’s new video, or just watch it now.
  • Big Bang Theory (CBS, 8:30pm):  The reunion of Johnny Galecki and Sara Gilbert happens tonight.
  • I Love New York 2 (VH1, 9pm):  Season premiere.  I’m sorry—what exactly do the winners ‘win’ on this show again?

Tara Conner’s Reign is Almost Over

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Prime Time, Reality, NBC,

Tara ConnerDoesn’t it seem like just yesterday when this whole Miss USA brouhaha overtook the media and started a spat between Donald Trump and Rosie O’Donnell? If you recall (and if you just wiped the whole thing from your memory, I don’t blame you)—Tara Conner won the Miss USA competition and then almost lost the crown because she was a party girl. Trump took pity on her and let her keep the tiara, provided she go to rehab. O’Donnell voiced her overbearing opinion about the situation and a full-blown war of words was on. After a month in rehab, Conner told People magazine, “I suffer from the disease of alcoholism and addiction. And if there’s anything that I want people to know it’s the severity of this disease and what it can do to people.” Come Friday, Tara Conner will pass the crown on to the next winning contestant. Let’s hope the next Miss USA doesn’t have quite so much baggage.
