Guess who I am: I only have one Spanish-language album to my credit, yet American Idol has already deemed me a Latin-music afficionado. If you guessed JLo—I mean Jennifer Lopez—then you’d be right.
Well - no matter how well she may/may not sing…we all know that Jennifer can dance and put on a show. Was she able to help infuse a little rhythm and spice into the contestants’ performances? Read on!

MTV Reunites Las Vegas Cast
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Prime Time, Reality, Cable, Cable/Satellite, Ratings,
Yikes. Why on earth would MTV get the Vegas cast of The Real World together again? Well, here’s one theory: that season was one of the highest rated of the whole series. So, ratings gold, I suppose. Plus, they’re probably banking on the fact that none of them have grown up beyond getting hammered and making out in hot tubs. I have to say, that was the last season I watched, and I couldn’t even make it through the entire run that year. The gap between my reality and the Real World cast’s reality was huge that year. I guess I just got older. Huh. Anyway, MTV is bringing them all back together for Reunited: The Real World Las Vegas at the Palms Casino Resort. Series co-creator Jon Murray said, “I know viewers will want to check back into The Palms with the cast and see what they’ve been up to and what they’ll get up to.” Well, if the promos can make any promises of drunken three-ways, I’d say they’ll have a hit. Of course, all but one of that season’s cast have been on Real World/Road Rules Challenge or other MTV shows. And Trishelle Cannatella had a stint on VH1’s The Surreal Life, so you can’t say these folks have used up their 15 minutes just yet. Look for this reunion in late spring.

A special Earth Day episode of MTV’s Pimp My Ride will feature California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and an eco-friendly car makeover. If you’ve never caught this show, they makeover cars, and I guess I don’t really “get” it. Then again, I’m not a guy. At any rate, I give them credit for trying to raise awareness about the environment and the use of biodiesel/alternative fuel. And this can be an effective way to reach people in a different way. You can catch the episode on April 22nd at 1 p.m., where the crew makeover a 1965 Chevrolet Impala. Sweet. Schwarzenegger was pleased with the episode, saying, “I would like to thank MTV and the entire Pimp My Ride crew for shining the spotlight on the importance of alternative fuels and the fight against global warming. I am pleased that the power of MTV’s message will reach an audience throughout California and the nation to reinforce the benefits of alternative-fuel vehicles and protecting our environment.”

Jennifer Lopez Guesting On American Idol This Week
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, News,
This week, pop princess and movie star Jennifer Lopez will join the ranks of famous celebs to play mentor and guest star on American Idol. Tonight’s show will feature J Lo in mentor mode, coaching Idol wannabes on how to reach the high musical heights she has achieved…or, at least, get through this week’s competition. Lopez’s appearance and subsequent performance (scheduled for Wednesday night’s results show, where another Idol will leave the stage for good) coincide with a recent album release. There is no official word from FOX on what Lopez will perform or what tonight’s theme will be, but fans assume that a Latin-inspired evening is in the works. Will Sanjaya give crowds another rollicking performance? Will Haley Scarnato wear something incredibly revealing? Will Paula say something inane, while Simon reams competitors? It certainly wouldn’t be American Idol 6 otherwise, would it? Look for Lopez-coached performances tonight, before the diva herself takes the stage to show the Idols how it’s done during tomorrow’s live episode.

Idol-izing Sanjaya
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip,
Two distinct camps have formed around the American Idol 6 season: those for, and those against a single singer. From his changing hair styles to his weird wardrobe choices and continuing lackluster singing, Sanjaya is a hit on the Idol stage. The big question now is…why? Currently, he is the most searched for and sought-after Idol to grace the stage - ever. According to search engine reports, it’s Sanjaya’s name that keeps coming up again and again, even more often than past American Idol winners. Simon Cowell has publicly gone on record to claim he’ll leave the show if Malakar wins, and Sanjaya’s harshest critics have been calling for him to get the boot for weeks now. Meanwhile, singing sensations like Stephanie Edwards, Chris Sligh, and Gina Glocksen have been sent home…and Sanjaya lives to butcher another song. When it comes to Sanjaya, people either love him or hate him, and all have their own reasons. Some of his biggest supporters are championing Sanjaya for a very specific reason: the ruination of the show. Others that love him are true fans (read: young girls). But those that hate him do so with tenacity. Even media criticism hasn’t been enough to sway votes out of his favor. It seems Sanjaya has true Idol staying power…go figure.

America’s Next Top Model: Cycle 8: The Girl Who Gets Thrown In The Pool
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, The CW, America’s Next Top Model, The CW, Features,

With Diana gone now, Whitney had to learn how to live life without her. Meanwhile, Renee was still upset - I feel like a broken record now - that Sarah got twice the number of stills than the other models. Yes, yes—we all know she didn’t deserve it…
The next day, the girls met up with Lesley Hornby, aka Twiggy. Twiggy told them the story behind her iconic name (it was a nickname a friend had given her because of her rail-thin legs). It’s no doubt that her unique name had something to do with launching her modeling career. Later, Melrose from ANTM Cycle 7 joined the session. Many people might not remember that Melrose’s name was actually a contraction of her real name: Melissa Rose. Together, the two mentors encouraged the contestants to come up with a distinct name of their own.

Whitney Houston Wins Custody of Bobbi Christina
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Reality, Gossip, News,
An Orange County judge ruled in favor of 43-year-old Whitney Houston this week in the custody battle between her and estranged hubby Bobby Brown (38). The couple’s only offspring, fourteen-year-old Bobbi Christina will stay with her mother, who was reportedly visibly upset and in tears during the hearing. A prenuptial agreement left all financial matters neatly settled between the pair, giving them nothing to fight about but their one shared asset: their child. Now, even that is all said and done, and the couple will officially be free of each other on April 24, 2007. For now, Houston will hold sole custody of young Bobbi. The only other choice for childcare was Bobby Brown. Don’t blame the judge…a choice had to be made.

The Worst American Idol Season Ever?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol,
It became such a phenomenon. It made all the other networks jealous. It locked up the number 1 ratings spot for so long. It re-launched the careers of some has-beens, and started brand-new careers for some that might never-have-been otherwise. Eventually, it all had to go to hell…right? This year’s season of American Idol is leaving a lot of fans wanting. Bad singing makes for exciting reality TV watching but painful reality listening, and many fans are left confused at the end of each Idol results show. Last night’s elimination of Gina Glockson seems to prove that singing isn’t what makes an American Idol. The only thing more painful than Gina’s teary good-bye (as she sadly sang her song of hope, encouraging all to smile though her heart was breaking) was the quick filler performance used to cover Tony Bennett’s absence from the stage. So many ears were bleeding, many were unable to hear Gina’s later singing. America gets to vote for who they like – but it’s the judges that decide who’s going to be around when voting commences. With so many poor singers now filling the stage, some fans are calling season 6 the worst ever in Idol history. As these less-talented singers stick in season 6 longer than those with more powerful pipes, one question keeps coming up: WHY? Maybe the truth is, America doesn’t want good singing. They want good TV. And watching performers fall flat…well, that’s better than a high-speed chase.

Sanjaya: The Tic-Tac-Toe Playing Pig
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Editorial, Features,
I’m starting this article before the foregone conclusion that will happen during tonight’s American Idol results show, that is: Sanjaya isn’t going anywhere. By the time you read this, you and several million other viewers will be annoyed, whoever leaves instead of Sanjaya will be angry, but do you know who’s going to be the most pissed that Sanjaya is sticking around? Four people: Randy, Paula, Simon and Ryan.
I’ve been watching Idol off and on since its inception, and there’s always been one constant (well, two if you count Paula’s “your voice is like a rainbow” comments): no matter who the contestant is, no matter how bad he or she is on the show, Ryan and Paula always supported each and every one of those kids. The Jasmine Triases, the Kevin Covaises, the John Stevenses (not the Supreme Court Justice, the pseudo-crooner), even though they stunk up the joint week after week, Ryan and Paula, the two cheeriest elves on reality tv, were always there to support the kids.
But not anymore.
