Tonight the finalists will be welcomed into the world of pop music by Miss Hollaback Girl herself—Gwen Stefani. In the next few weeks, we will also be seeing Jenny from the Block, aka Jennifer Lopez. Am the only one who is wondering what these two singers will have to offer outside of fashion and stage presence advice? If you’re as curious as I am… read on!

Ugh. Just when I was beginning to enjoy the rapid pace of the half hour American Idol results shows, they’ve gone and changed things up. Beginning April 11th, the Wednesday shows will run an hour and continue that way through May. Now, wouldn’t you think that as the pool of contestants gets smaller, the need for an hour-long show is less necessary too? Ah, no one knows needless filler like American Idol—more dramatic Seacrest pauses, more Ryan/Simon insults, more cheesy group performances. The change apparently comes at the producers’ request, since the eliminated contestants haven’t had enough time to give their final performances. Again though, as the final numbers dwindle, there should be more than enough time to get in that last song.

This is it, folks. The final season of Punk’d, the Ashton Kutcher celebrity prank show. The series has had a successful run on MTV over the last eight seasons. Gotta say, there is something gratifying about seeing the rich and famous having it stuck to them. This sure as heck beats the pants off of those old “Practical Jokes” shows that Ed McMahon and Dick Clark used to do. The last season begins April 10th, but you can catch the entire eight episodes in a back-to-back marathon on April 7th. Be on the lookout for the latest celebs to be Punk’d : Jewel, Magic Johnson, Hilary Swank, and Nelly Furtado are among the famous faces. And, to top it all off, Kutcher will have a final special called Punk’d Awards on June 5th.

This one is puzzling—a possible reunion of the 70s singing group The Osmonds. For some reason, it doesn’t seem like there would be a big demand to reunite Donny and his five brothers, but hey, stranger things have had people tuning in. Donny sang with his brothers during the 70s, then did a little solo work—and now has his 55th album, “Love Songs of the 70s,” on the British charts. Fear not, it will be released soon in America. He also had that variety show with sister Marie (remember “I’m a little bit country, I’m a little bit rock n’ roll”? No?). “The family has been talking,” Osmond said. “I haven’t done a show with my brothers for 25 years or so. We are talking about doing a TV special, and maybe something with Marie, but nothing is locked in yet.” So, it’s not a done deal, but they’re talking. For now, you’ll have to get your dose of Donny when he begins hosting duties for The Great American Dream Vote, beginning on March 27th.

America’s Next Top Model: Cycle 8: The Girl Who Changes Her Attitude

After saying goodbye to Cassandra, the girls recouped. Diana dealt with being on the brink of elimination. Jael, still trying to distract herself from her friends death, let Felicia teach her a dance. Meanwhile, Renee struggled to understand why all the girls hated her. She honestly believed the girls were ‘looking for ways to be offended by her’. Who says models are clueless? Surprisingly, Renee then made a rapid about-face and pledged to stop being mean.

American Idol Goes Long to Compete With ‘Dancing’
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, ABC, FOX, American Idol, Dancing With The Stars, Ratings,
American Idol, in an effort to steal Dancing with the Stars’ thunder, will add seven minutes to Tuesday’s show. How does this impact Dancing? Idol will potentially pull viewers from the first seven minutes of Dancing with the Stars—pretty sneaky, huh. Why go to these lengths? Is it to better showcase the Top 10 and guest Gwen Stefani? Or just a nanny-nanny-boo-boo move? I’m sure they need those extra seven minutes because typically these Tuesday night shows have been running two hours. And that’s just too dang much! We’ll have to see how ratings fare because both shows are immensely popular right now. House, by the way, will follow Idol at 9:08. I know that’s screwy, but as an Idol watcher (can’t say fan, really), those two hour shows are brutal!

Nope, that’s not a typo. The next installment of The Real World will be number 20 and the casting is underway. In an attempt to lure older viewers back in who have tired of the drunken hookups that Real World has become… the producers are looking for a way to get “back to basics.” Damon Furberg, The Real World‘s supervising cast director said, “We’re trying to get back a little bit to the roots of the show, getting some people on who come into the house with goals, career goals and certain things they want to achieve like way back at the beginning of the show.” Huh, fancy that. People with goals, who like, want to do stuff. In fact, the casting call notices emphasize the show’s desire to get some career-driven applicants: “aspiring actors, models, dancers, filmmakers, musicians, athletes, artists, journalists, stylists, and fashion designers are particularly encouraged to apply, as well as anyone else with interesting career goals and a passion to succeed.” Take the booze down a few notches and I may just tune in.

Doesn’t it seem like just yesterday when this whole Miss USA brouhaha overtook the media and started a spat between Donald Trump and Rosie O’Donnell? If you recall (and if you just wiped the whole thing from your memory, I don’t blame you)—Tara Conner won the Miss USA competition and then almost lost the crown because she was a party girl. Trump took pity on her and let her keep the tiara, provided she go to rehab. O’Donnell voiced her overbearing opinion about the situation and a full-blown war of words was on. After a month in rehab, Conner told People magazine, “I suffer from the disease of alcoholism and addiction. And if there’s anything that I want people to know it’s the severity of this disease and what it can do to people.” Come Friday, Tara Conner will pass the crown on to the next winning contestant. Let’s hope the next Miss USA doesn’t have quite so much baggage.

George Foreman to Judge American Inventor
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Prime Time, Reality, ABC,
The second season of American Inventor will feature Foreman grill-meister George Foreman. Oh,... what? Right, he’s also well-known for being a heavyweight champion. But I’m betting these days his claim-to-fame is those little grills. In all, four judges will oversee the competing inventions, including former talk show host and entrepreneur Pat Croce, inventor Sara Blakely and British mogul (and executive producer) Peter Jones. Jones also appeared last year on the show. American Inventor also gets a new host—Nick Smith, a television news anchor and reporter. He replaces the former host, Matt Gallant. Each week, the show travels and chooses a finalist from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Orlando and Houston. After that, a two-hour episode will have the six finalists building a prototype and being judged. The contestant pool is then narrowed down to just three. That’s where viewers come in—selecting their favorite invention which will earn the inventor $1 million and the opportunity to market their invention. The show begins June 6 at 9 p.m on ABC.
