That statement from Idol producers was prompted by the unfolding , which is taking on gargantuan proportions in the British press.

Auto-Tune is a pitch-altering technology used to make singers sound perfectly in tune. Auto-Tune has been used by many famous performers during live concerts and recording sessions, and it has also been used by British reality singing competition . Producers of the show admitted as much in recent statements, though they have denied using the technology during live events.

“I said, ‘Yeah, go ahead, use my stuff,’” Billy Joel recently told Access Hollywood. The Piano Man released his songs to for use on the popular series, which has made many songs famous again. “I was in a chorus when I was in high school, why not?” He said.

Joel’s signature song “Piano Man” was crooned on-screen by guest star Neil Patrick Harris during last season’s “Dream On” episode, and there’s good reason to suspect that fans will be treated to more Joel in the future. However, Billy Joel doesn’t plan on doing a Britney Spears - he won’t be making a on the series. “I’m just not a big TV actor type of guy,” he explained. “I’m a piano player.”

The Sonoma News recently reported that Carmina Salcido, 24, has made it through the first round of her San Francisco American Idol audition.

Carmina is a bit of a celebrity in Sonoma, but not for her singing voice. Salcido made national headlines at the age of three, the only survivor in a massacre that left seven dead and her throat almost fatally slit open. The perpetrator? Carmina’s father, Ramon Salcido.

The tenth season American Idol judging panel is still up for grabs, according to sources who are in the know. Though early rumors suggested that Jennifer Lopez would be joining new judge Steven Tyler on the reality series, new gossip suggests that FOX is still looking elsewhere for their new female panelist. According to one source, would love to join the series.

Carey’s husband Nick Cannon has also that his wife would “love” to be on the show.

Reps for FOX and for Carey have not commented on the possibility, but everyone involved with the Idol camp has remained mum on all pending judging deals. Though rumors suggest that Steven Tyler is definitely , fans aren’t likely to hear any official Idol judging news until the entire panel has been filled.

Britney and Brittany on the set of Glee“All my GLEEKERS in the crowd, grab a partner take it down,” were the inspirational words pop princess Britney Spears tweeted to legions of Glee fans earlier this week.

Spears, who’ll appear on a Britney-themed episode named “Britney/Brittany,” has music fans writhing in anticipation. This pic with Heather Morris (Brittany) is just one of several she’s posted over the past few days.

Before she began filming scenes, Spears announced that she was “Getting ready for my second day of . Shooting a really cool scene today that I know you guys will love.”

Britney also provided fans with a confirmed time and date for the Season 2 episode: Tuesday, September 28 at 8 p.m.

FOX is still parroting the “no comment” line, but insiders say has already signed his name on the American Idol contract. According to one source, Tyler inked the deal last week. It’ll be fun to see whether he ties scarves around his desk mic, too. Now, the big question: who will join the Aerosmith front man at the judging table?

Rumor has it that Jennifer Lopez, who was named early as a possible new face on the panel, is asking for a $20 million salary on top of her own styling team and a large dressing room area (which is being referred to as a “compound”). Even despite all this, sources say that J-Lo still isn’t out of the running…though she’s not the only celeb FOX is currently speaking to about the American Idol gig.
