On Gear Live: Apple’s M5 Chip Made the MacBook Pro Unstoppable!

MTV logo Total Request Live, true to its title, has always been a live show. That’s about to change, at least partially. In an effort to save money, MTV has started taping TRL two days a week… but fear not, live shows will still air on Mondays and Wednesdays. No changes will be made to the title and no other changes will be made, including editing. The show still maintains much of the original “spirit” just done a bit differently. It’s now a live-to-tape show (a la David Letterman, Jon Stewart, etc), but it’s lacking the interactive element with online video voting. “We’re still committed to the show and it’s the cornerstone of the afternoon schedule,” said spokeswoman Marnie Black. “TRL is not the same show as it was when Carson Daly hosted it. The show has evolved and will continue to evolve.”

Shanna Moakler Former reality sweethearts Shanna Moakler and Travis Barker documented their love on their MTV series Meet the Barkers. Then the beauty queen and the rocker called it quits. Now it looks like they’re heading for a make-up. Moakler told People magazine, “I’m madly in love with my husband.” This comes on the heels of a 32nd birthday bash that Barker had for Moakler in Miami over the weekend. A party guest said, “They were really affectionate with each other all night long. They really looked loving and happy.” They were also seen together holding hands and kissing on the beach. Whether or not the couple will stick it out for the long haul remains to be seen. Barker filed for divorce last August.

Flavor FlavFor those of you hanging in there on VH1’s Flavor of Love spinoff, I Love New York—you’re stronger than I am. I stumble across this show from time to time, but can’t commit. And, as if one spinoff of Flav’s show isn’t enough, there’s yet another on the horizon. This time around, Flavor of Love Girls: Charm School will have 13 of Flav’s cast-offs attending (you guessed it) charm school. Mo’Nique is on board for hosting duties, putting the girls through their paces to learn proper etiquette to become well-mannered, respectable women. What’s to keep the girls in the competition, besides being on television? The grand prize is $50,000. Check in out on April 15th at 10 p.m. No doubt it will be a ratings winner like Flavor of Love and I Love New York.

David Duchovny I used to be the biggest David Duchovny fan—you know, when I could get my weekly dose of him on The X-Files. Now that he’s not on my TV every week, my adoration for him has faded slightly, but I’ve still got love for Duchov. Plus, you can always hear his voiceover work on that Pedigree commercial. His voice is so smooth. The great news is that he’ll once again be hitting the small screen, and this time it’s a comedy. Duchovny has more than his fair share of charm and wit, so I think he’ll be well-suited for a television comedy. Problem for me is that it’s on Showtime, which I don’t currently have. But, come August, when the show is expected to debut, I’ll be calling the cable company to get on board. The show is still untitled but Showtime has ordered 12 episodes. Duchovny will play a novelist raising his 13-year-old daughter and still pining for his ex-girlfriend. Co-stars include Natascha McElhone (The Truman Show) and Evan Handler (Sex and the City). Showtime President of Entertainment, Robert Greenblatt, commented that “anyone expecting Agent Mulder to resurface will be pleasantly surprised to see David create a character who is deeply flawed yet funny, complicated, and utterly human.” Definitely worth a look.

Eddie Izzard The Riches premiered on Monday on FX and the viewership was great. I am eager to see this show, but somehow my dedication to What About Brian forced me to DVR The Riches and watch Brian instead. Boy, did I choose poorly. I could have used a taste of something new, rather than the same old thing on Brian. But that show is a whole other discussion. On to The Riches, starring big fave of mine Eddie Izzard and the talented Minnie Driver. Here’s the thing—I wasn’t sure how this was going to be received. Fans of Izzard are most likely expecting him in all his comedic glory and instead he’s playing the drama card. Not that he hasn’t done that before—he has acted in a handful of serious roles and he’s more than capable. It’s just that, if you’ve ever seen his standup special Dress to Kill (and if you haven’t, quickly run out and rent it—it’s the funniest thing out there), you are probably expecting him to play funny on The Riches. Despite the seriousness, the show averaged 3.8 million viewers. If you missed it, FX will re-air the debut on Saturday at 10 p.m. and Sunday at 11 p.m. With any luck, I’ll get a chance to watch it on my DVR before the weekend.

Paul Dinello, Amy SedarisIf you’re a Strangers with Candy fan, no doubt you are a fan of Paul Dinello. He co-wrote, directed and starred in the Comedy Central show. His role as art teacher Geoffry Jellineck, and his scenes with Stephen Colbert in particular, were too funny. The good news is that he’s directing a pilot for FOX.. the bad news is that he won’t be appearing in this comedy. No worries—Me & Lee? sounds like just the quirky little show that’s right up his alley. Strangely enough, it’s about a man who discovers “bionic” back surgery in his search for back pain relief. The “Lee” part comes into play with the Bionic Man, Lee Majors, who runs the bionic back surgery operation. So far, no news on casting, but we’re guessing the part of Lee Majors will be played by… Lee Majors. Oh please, just play that cheesy bionic sound effect—that’ll be a great hook to keep the viewers coming back for more! And cast Amy Sedaris. Pretty please?

Rachael RayIn her attempt to take over the world, Rachael Ray has just signed on as a spokesperson for Dunkin’ Donuts. Dunkin’ is launching a new “health-conscious” menu and wants Ray to sell the heck out of it. Not only will she be the face/voice/whatever of the new line of healthy food and beverages, but she will also help to develop the products. Basically, with the recommendation to avoid trans fats, Dunkin’ is steppin’ up and yanking the trans from their lineup. Ray, of course, is excited (when is she not?)—saying, “I am excited to work with Dunkin’ Donuts’ team of chefs as they expand their menu to include new items for customers looking for more health-conscious options.” Dunkin’s president, Robert Rodriguez, said, “Rachael’s philosophy of creating quality meals quickly and without pretense for busy people living busy lives is the same driving force behind the Dunkin’ Donuts brand.” Oh yeah, he forgot to mention that she is a household name and all around American girl that people are strangely drawn to. Cha-ching!

Star Jones Star Jones Reynolds is back baby. No longer tethered by Barbara Walters and her brand of bull, Star is running the show this time. Reynolds will host a talk show of sorts on Court TV, specializing in criminal justice and pop culture. Huh? Well, we’ll have to find out what that’s all about in the fall, when the show will debut. No details on the show’s title just yet. Reynolds has some experience in this area, having started her career as a lawyer and then as a legal commentator for Court TV in the early 90s. Her job as co-host of The View began in 1997, and well, you know how it all went down—after her contract wasn’t renewed last summer, she announced on the show that she would be leaving, making Barbara very grumpy. That was Star’s last appearance on The View. Of her new show, Star commented, “This is the perfect time in our culture to see how the law, politics and entertainment come together. Some people say it has been on a collision. I say it has been connected.”

Rob and AmberFrom the moment they first met on the set of Survivor, Rob and Amber (Romber) have been making reality waves all over television. They met, they fell in love…they outlasted all their island competitors. Then, in a bit of reality TV magic, Rob got down on one knee to propose to the lovely Amber – before Survivor’s million-dollar prize was even given away to one of them (Amber ended up the winner - by a single vote). From Survivor, they merrily raced to another CBS show, the Amazing Race 7. Fans will recall that the reality power couple was narrowly beaten out of another million-dollar prize by fellow Racers Uchenna and Joyce. All these seasons later, Romber has been cast again into competition with the one team that beat them.
