On Gear Live: Apple’s M5 Chip Made the MacBook Pro Unstoppable!

Jesse James, Monster GarageTsk, tsk, what does Sandra Bullock think of all of this? Jesse James (who is Bullock’s husband) was fined $271,250 by the state of California for failing to meet emissions standards. James is the former star of Monster Garage, a show on the Discover Channel that challenged a team to build a “monster machine” out of a vehicle. James is also the owner of West Coast Chopper, which builds custom motorcycles for many celebrities. The California Air Resources Board fined James based on 50 custom-built motorcycles that James sold between 1998 and 2005. The board maintains that the cycles “did not have state certified emissions equipment on their exhaust and fuel systems.” As a result, “bikes were spewing hydrocarbons at up to 10 times the state limits,” according to Paul Jacobs, chief of the board’s Mobile Sources Enforcement branch. Monster Garage ended after five seasons in June 2006.

Justin GuariniIf you’ve been missing American Idol‘s season one finalist, Justin Guarini, the wait is over. The runner-up’s shining face will soon be gracing the TV Guide Channel’s Idol Tonight live preshow. OK, forgive my cynicism here, but how much American Idol do we really need on the television? I guess Idol Tonight is for the hardcore fans who just can’t get enough of all things Idol.  At least there’s a place for Guarini, who had seemed to all but vanish from the spotlight. Here, he gets to provide all the behind-the-scenes commentary, including interviews with former contestants, vocal coaches, and stylists. And he won’t go it alone—he’ll be joined by Kimberly Caldwell, from season two of Idol and Rosanna Tavarez, who was a winner on the WB’s Popstars. What? They couldn’t get another Idol alum to fill the third spot? Show of hands for anyone who even saw Popstars? Sadly, that’s me with my hand raised. Yep, I watched it.

Jennifer Aniston We brought you the news that Jennifer Aniston may be appearing on Courteney Cox Arquette’s FX series, Dirt. Then we confirmed Aniston’s appearance on the finale. And now… well, for anyone that ever hoped to catch any of the women from Friends in a liplock, this news is for you. Not only will Aniston appear on the season finale of Dirt, but she will also be seen kissing star Courteney Cox Arquette. So, if you thought viewership for this freshman series was going to see an uptick from Aniston’s turn as a rival magazine editor, the upcoming kiss will have viewer numbers off of the chart. The episode, which airs on March 27th, will have Aniston’s character giving what a source calls a “goodbye peck.” Okay, so it’s not a heavy kissing scene, but the source tells People magazine, “But, yes, it’s on the lips.” Further, it has been confirmed that Aniston will be playing a lesbian, according to a USA Today article.

Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox ArquetteWe reported last week that there was a rumor that Jennifer Aniston might appear on Courtney Cox Arquette’s series, Dirt. The rumor has now been confirmed, with more details about which episode and the character Aniston will play. This appearance will mark Aniston’s first return to television since wrapping Friends in 2004. This time around, she will play rival magazine editor Tina Harrod. The exchange between her and Lucy Spiller should be fun—and good to see Aniston return to her roots. Aniston will appear in the season finale of Dirt, airing on March 27th on FX. Hmmm, sounds like there will be a bump in ratings with these two sharing the small screen again.

Flavor Flav Move over Flavor Flav. There’s new VH1 ratings royalty in town. None other than your castoff—not once, but twice—Tiffany “New York” Pollard. That’s right, crazy as it may seem, the debut of I Love New York, the spin off of Flavor of Love, garnered the highest ratings for the network. The series premiere on Monday, January 8th had the most viewers of any other premiere on VH1. “New York” displayed so much personality on both seasons of Flavor of Love that VH1 called her in for her own series. The premise is a spin on Flavor of Love, with New York choosing from a herd of eligible bachelors. The new show has paid off for VH1, drawing 4.4 million viewers and overall earning the prize for the highest-rated cable program on Monday. The debut saw New York cutting the first five bachelors.

Mark BurnettBecause there’s nothing that Mark Burnett can’t handle—he will now be taking control of the MTV Movie Awards as executive producer. Now, we can’t expect any Burnett production to be without twists. But what can he do to an awards show? Make the nominees compete in elaborate challenges? Send the award losers to exile island? Have Donald Trump fire someone? Well, he can’t do too much to the awards, but he is changing things up a bit by televising the MTV Movie Awards live for the first time. Burnett won’t be altering much of anything, and the kooky categories and movie parodies that fans enjoy will stay put. He does plan to include some “bombshell moments” to make the broadcast more interesting. MTV president Christina Norman says in a statement, “Mark has great ideas and vision for the Movie Awards, and I know he’s going to bring some fresh energy to the show.” The MTV Movie Awards will air on June 3rd.

Paula AbdulHmmm. Has Bravo run out of original programming ideas? The network announced that it will be airing a documentary series titled Hey Paula, following 44 year-old Paula Abdul at her various jobs and peeking at her personal life. I say “jobs” because, not only is she working on the latest season of American Idol, but she is developing a perfume and cosmetics line, working to expand her jewelery line, and preparing to film Bratz: The Movie. This will be her first involvement with a film, taking the popular Bratz toy line and converting it to a live-action movie. Bravo President Lauren Zalaznick said of the new series, “It fits the Bravo mandate to show what’s going on in the culture of the moment.” Zalaznick also said that Hey Paula will show “an intimate glimpse at the real woman behind the headlines.” Keep an eye out for Hey Paula later this year.

Jennifer Aniston While Courteney Cox Arquette and Jennifer Aniston have ruled out a Friends reunion, there is a chance that Aniston may appear on Cox Arquette’s new FX series, Dirt. The former Friends co-stars spoke out at the Television Critics Association Conference, saying of a Friends reunion, “It’s too hard to get everyone together. The writers are doing their thing, and I just can’t see it happening – not that I wouldn’t do it, because it would be fun.” On Dirt, Cox Arquette works as editor-in-chief at a tabloid magazine. While no firm plans have been made about Aniston’s appearance, the two have been in discussions about the type of character that Aniston would play on the series.

MTV logo The latest installment of MTV’s Road Rules not only marks the return of the show since being on hiatus in 2004, it also introduces an interactive element. Dubbed Viewers Revenge, this edition of Road Rules lets viewers have some control over the cast. The show will not be pre-recorded as in past seasons, but rather use a “near real-time” format, similar to Big Brother. The other difference from past seasons is that the cast will compete in challenges based in California, rather than traveling on a road trip, due to the new format.

The challenge begins with six previous Road Rules’ contestants: Abram (Road Rules South Seas), Adam (Road Rules 10: The Quest), Shane (Road Rules Campus Crawl), Kina (Road Rules Xtreme), Susie (Road Rules Australia), and Veronica (Road Rules Semester at Sea). After each week’s mission, the cast will nominate a male and female castmate for elimination. Viewers will make the decision about who will compete in a face-off that is shown on the roadrules.mtv.com website. Viewers will also vote a challenger for the face-off from an online roster called “The Pit Crew.” Each Pit Crew member will have videos, blogs, and other other background information. If the Pit Crew member wins the challenge, they return to the RV and the loser then joins the Pit Crew lineup, where they can potentially get back in the game. If the initial Road Ruler wins, they keep their spot in the RV. Confused yet?

Look for a Road Rules: Viewers Revenge special on January 23rd at 10 p.m. The new season starts on January 30th at 9 p.m.
