Rob and Amber: Stars of the Reality Race

Rob and AmberFrom the moment they first met on the set of Survivor, Rob and Amber (Romber) have been making reality waves all over television. They met, they fell in love…they outlasted all their island competitors. Then, in a bit of reality TV magic, Rob got down on one knee to propose to the lovely Amber – before Survivor’s million-dollar prize was even given away to one of them (Amber ended up the winner - by a single vote). From Survivor, they merrily raced to another CBS show, the Amazing Race 7. Fans will recall that the reality power couple was narrowly beaten out of another million-dollar prize by fellow Racers Uchenna and Joyce. All these seasons later, Romber has been cast again into competition with the one team that beat them.

After they ran the Amazing Race the first time (and were narrowly beat by Uchenna and Joyce to one million dollars), Rob and Amber celebrated a CBS wedding. From there, it was a short ride to lasting reality TV fame. Rob landed a memorable role on reality show SciFi Investigates (he was the skeptic – what else?), further cementing his reality celeb status. Appearances at reality events kept Romber in the spotlight, until they were featured on their own show on Fox Reality. Rob & Amber: Against the Odds gave fans the chance to see the couple in their element as Rob learned the ropes of becoming a professional poker player, and Amber learned the ropes of becoming a wife.

Their show ended when the couple packed up for another CBS show, and a reunion of sorts. Three weeks ago, The Amazing Race: All Stars began. And Romber has been resoundingly in the lead ever since. In fact, they’ve been flying so far ahead of most competitors that they have yet to exchange on-screen greetings with the one team that beat them, Uchenna and Joyce. No defeat ever sits well with Rob, who has brought a whole new game plan to the Race this time. So far, it’s working, and Rob and Amber have come in first place on the first three legs of the race.

For their victories, they’ve won a vacation, matching dirt bikes, and two fully-functional home gyms. Last Sunday’s episode found Rob admitting he would trade all their victories if they come in first place on the thirteenth (and final) leg of the race. Is another million dollar prize on the menu for this favorite reality couple?

CBS is hinting in their promos for next week’s show that their dreams may not be realized. Clips from next week show the couple having a confrontation with Charla and Marla, a team with a rude ‘tude who don’t seem to be afraid to say anything to anyone. Another scene shows the couple scrambling frantically down a hillside, ostensibly to race to the Pit Stop (ending that leg of the race). Will next week be the end of Romber’s racing to the million-dollar finish, or will they continue their string of first-place victories? The episode is being hyped with the line, “the ending that will have everyone talking.” An elimination for the famously competitive couple could certainly do that.
