On Gear Live: Apple’s M5 Chip Made the MacBook Pro Unstoppable!

Sarah Silverman Say what you will about Sarah Silverman, but I really like her. I know people tire of her crude humor, but I couldn’t help watch The Sarah Silverman Program on Comedy Central just to see what she’d come up with next. So, I’m excited to hear that she’ll be hosting this year’s MTV Movie Awards. She told The Associated Press, “Ever since I was a little girl, before it even started in 1980 — MTV — I said, `Someday, I want there to be an all-music channel that gives out awards for movies. And I want to host that show.’” A real wise-ass after my own heart. This year Survivor creator Mark Burnett is taking over the awards show, so this could be a whole new program. Check it out on June 3rd.

Vanessa MinnilloAfter four years on MTV’s Total Request Live, Vanessa Minnillo is calling it quits. Is it TRL‘s change in format to a semi-live program, or her recent shacking up with Nick Lachey to blame? Well, maybe some of both… or maybe neither. Minnillo said of her departure, “I had my four years there like high school or college. I’m ready for the next chapter – what it is, I have no idea. [But] I don’t want to be 48 saying, ‘Hey kids, now it’s Sean Preston Spears’s video.’ ” Good girl, getting out before she’s old and gray. She does have a career in the wings—a makeup line for Flirt! Cosmetics, which will be available in August. “We have two looks going on,” Minnillo said. “You can have that fun rock-and-roll look or an everyday look.” OK, sure. She’ll also show up in the next Fantastic Four. I’m sure she’ll have no trouble finding work. There’s always a new reality show looking for a host.

Jonathan Rhys MeyersRehab seems to be the way of many young stars these days. At least they’re getting help, but it seems almost “the thing to do.” The latest to hit the rehab circuit is The Tudors star Jonathan Rhys Meyers. His rep, Meredith O’Sullivan, said of Meyers decision to enter rehab, “After a non-stop succession of filming, Jonathan Rhys Meyers has entered an alcohol-treatment program. He felt a break was needed to maintain his recovery.” Indeed, he’s been busy—playing Henry VIII on Showtime’s The Tudors, as well as the miniseries Elvis. You may have also caught his pouty lips in Bend it Like Beckham, Match Point, and Mission: Impossible III. Meyers will be back filming The Tudors once he has finished his rehab program.

Lisa RinnaSeems like no one wants Joan and Melissa Rivers these days. First E! gave them the boot from red carpet duties, and now the TV Guide Channel is letting the pair go too. Never fear, actress Lisa Rinna will be taking over the red carpet gig, signing an exclusive deal with TV Guide Channel. She starts with the Emmy Awards on September 16th. TV Guide Channel President Ryan O’Hara couldn’t be more pleased, saying, “Lisa has the perfect mix of charisma, poise and experience to lead our live Red Carpet coverage at the major industry award shows. In addition to being an established TV star, she also has fashion expertise as both a business person and commentator, so she is a great fit for this role and for our brand. We are thrilled to welcome her to the TV Guide family and look forward to seeing her on the Red Carpet in September.” I won’t knock Rinna too much—I used to watch her on Days of our Lives back in the day, plus she was on Melrose Place. She also won over a lot of viewers when she was a contestant on Dancing with the Stars. Apparently, she’s also served as the host of Soap Talk on SOAPnet, earning four Emmy nominations. And she’s worlds better than either of the Rivers ladies.

Bob Barker The hunt for the next Bob Barker is underway, with three finalists vying for the coveted Price is Right hosting gig. Wouldn’t it be funny if one of the choices were Sanjaya Malakar? I kid. Really though, the three contenders are Mark Steines from Entertainment Tonight, Todd Newton of E!, and uber-tan guy George Hamilton. Other reports are saying that John O’Hurley, of Dancing with the Stars, is also in the running. The search has been going on for quite some time, but the buzz is that CBS will announce the new host in mid-May. Bob Barker is taping his last Price Is Right show in June, after 35 years on the job. It makes me wonder if they’ll do a whole overhaul on the show, with new games and sets. Personally, I think the cheesy stuff should continue because that’s what made Price is Right such a game show institution. I mean, can you imagine this show without Plinko?

MenudoRemember Menudo, the Puerto Rican boy band from the 80s? You may or may not recall that Ricky Martin got his start with this group—the band had a revolving roster which replaced members once they got too old, too tall, or their voice changed. The group lasted through the years, changing the name in the late 90s to MDO. Now, Menudo has jumped on the reality series bandwagon with an American Idol-style competition to choose its next members. Auditions are now underway, with the first set of kids heard in Miami. Serving as judges are Johnny Wright, who managed New Kids on the Block, ‘NSync and the Backstreet Boys, as well as Howie Dorough, one of the Backstreet Boys. “We’re going to make it a little different than it was before,” Wright said. “The beat is going to be the beats of the street now — club, hip-hop and rock. It’s not going to be something that’s pigeonholed.” The Road to Menudo will air on MTV Tr3s, MTV’s bilingual Latin-American channel, next month.

Remote Control It’s April, and that can only mean one thing: winter seasons are winding down so that new summer shows can blaze their way onto TV screens. But this year’s shows might not have enough spark to create a blaze…or even much warmth. This year’s summer shows from most major networks and cable channels center around new reality plots, as the summer season is always rife with new reality. Looking forward to summer renewals like Hell’s Kitchen, The Simple Life, and Kyle XY? Most summer favorites will be back for another run at big ratings, including Ghost Hunters (Sci-Fi Network), The Closer (TNT), and America’s Got Talent (NBC). But most networks are banking on brand-new shows to grab viewer attention, not old favorites. What’s fresh, new, and exciting about the summer season this year? If intense drama and reality melodrama appeal to you, then you’re all set for some great TV watching. Check out early previews on some of summer’s new, highly hyped, series.

Paula AbdulInsipid, sweet, tearful – these are only some of the adjectives one might use to describe American Idol judge Paula Abdul. But Bravo hopes to add a few more words to the list by depicting Paula in a new reality show. No, she won’t be judging singing – or, thankfully, anything else. In Bravo’s new Hey Paula, Ms. Abdul will simply live her life as cameras follow her around. Remember Anna Nicole Smith’s offbeat, wacky little ways during the days of The Anna Nicole Show? Early opinion is that Paula will make Anna look like a straight-laced citizen by comparison. In one early episode, Paula will be shown visiting jewel shops in preparation for the Grammys. The jeweler will freak out while Paula allows her two doggies to treat diamonds like chew toys – and she’ll laugh and laugh, like she’s listening to fellow Idol judge Simon Cowell. Bravo will debut several more shows in their ongoing quest to find a winner, including a posh estate-flipping show, millionaire matchmaking, a high-end reality travel agency, and a behind-the-scenes glimpse of a luxury Palm Springs hotel. That really is Bravo’s upcoming line-up…I couldn’t make this up if I tried.

Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum If you were hoping to add Project Runway 4 to your must-see list this summer, you’re going to have to wait a bit. Bravo announced that the latest season will not air until late 2007, despite the excellent ratings from last summer’s edition. Never fear, though… Bravo will be offering up plenty of summertime reality fare, including a third season of Top Chef, Hey Paula! and the third season of Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D List. No firm date on when Project Runway 4 will air, but Bravo’s press release stated that “only three finalists… face-off.. at New York Fashion Week.” This is a departure from the four finalists in the previous season. But the good news is that Tim Gunn will return for the fourth season, as well as fashion designer Michael Kors, ELLE Magazine fashion director Nina Garcia and Heidi Klum.

Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie I only wish that headline were a typo. Ugh… the next season of Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie’s The Simple Life begins on May 28th and they’ll be tackling the roles of camp counselors at a wellness camp this go-around. And of course, what could be more fun than seeing these rich chicks do something totally disgusting, most likely while they’re calling it “so hot.” In an interview with Reuters, Richie said “We gave the campers enemas. We did it outside, so that was a lot of fun. It was something that I never thought I would do before.” Yeah, I’m sure most of us can say the same thing. The camp is run by Susan Powter, that nutrition/fitness chick from the 90s (so if you were wondering whatever happened to her, now’s your time to catch up). The Simple Life premieres its fifth season on E! on May 28th.
