Brian Urlacher of the Chicago Bears

CHICAGO BEARS
2007 RECORD: 7-9
Overview: No one will confuse this Chicago Bears team with the Monsters of the Midway or the ‘85 championship squad that ran roughshod over the rest of the NFL en route to a 46-10 Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots. This team is still in the process of plugging numerous offensive and defensive holes. The ‘07 Bears ranked in the bottom quarter of all but one category - ranked 27th in total offense, a respectable ranking of 15th in passing, a deplorable showing of 30th in rushing, 28th in total defense, 27th in pass defense and 24th against the run. Help is on the way. Newly named signal caller Kyle Orton looked impressive in a preseason win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Still being ranked in the bottom quarter of offensive and defensive categories means lots of room for improvement. The mere fact that they came within one win of .500 ball despite all these shortcomings is a kind of minor miracle.

Aaron Rodgers has some big shoes to fill with the Green Bay Packers

GREEN BAY PACKERS
2007 RECORD: 13-3
Overview: Cheddarheads can take heart in the fact that losing Fabulous Brett Favre to the New York Jets does not mean that the Green Bay Packers will drop from the top of the Black and Blue NFC North Division. Fifth year QB Aaron Rodgers posted respectable stats in ‘07 with 20 completions in 28 passing attempts with 1 TD. Look for Rodgers to make the most of his first full season in the Green and Gold.

Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers could sit atop the AFC North

1. Pittsburgh Steelers
2. Cleveland Browns
3. Cincinnati Bengals
4. Baltimore Ravens
Top Offensive Player: Braylon Edwards, WR, Cleveland Browns
Top Defensive Player: Troy Polamalu, SS, Pittsburgh Steelers
Top Rookie: Ray Rice, RB, Baltimore Ravens

Troy Polamalu needs a bounceback season

PITTSBURGH STEELERS
2007 RECORD: 10-6

Overview: Finishing the 2007 season with the same record as the Cleveland Browns, the tiebreaker lofted the Pittsburgh Steelers to the top of the AFC North and into the postseason.  2008 brings a bit of a different situation as several key members of the offensive line and linebacking corps have gone elsewhere, while their possession receiver in Hines Ward is a year older.  The Steel Curtain has a tough road ahead of them in 2008, but they do have one of the best quarterbacks in the league.  Can they capitalize on his prime?

CLEVELAND BROWNS
2007 RECORD: 10-6

Overview: Shocking the world after their first week implosion against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Cleveland Browns rolled off 10 wins in the next 15 weeks and barely missed a playoff slot thanks to a tiebreaker that favored the Tennessee Titans.  Already boasting one of the best offenses in the game, the Cleveland front office made several key moves to address the defense this past offseason.  Will it be enough to lift the Browns to the top of the division?

Carson Palmer leads the way for the Cincinnati Bengals

CINCINNATI BENGALS
2007 RECORD: 7-9

Overview: Talk about a fall from grace.  With one of the best turnover ratios in the league only a year prior, the Cincinnati Bengals could not stop anyone on the defensive side of the ball in 2007.  This situation led to several losses, players pointing fingers, and a disappointing season all around.  This year hopes to be different for the men in stripes (no pun intended), as they still have one of the best quarterbacks in the league that is throwing the ball to two premier receivers.  The defense is still a bit on the questionable side, but a progressing group of cornerbacks coupled with some veteran leadership should allow for modest improvement.

Ray Lewis and the Baltimore Ravens defense will be tough

BALTIMORE RAVENS
2007 RECORD: 5-11

Overview: From one of the best teams in the AFC to quite a collapse, the Baltimore Ravens have to deal with a defense that is considered to be aging, coupled with an offense that is still looking for someone effective under center.

Root for me, root against me, I really don’t care.  Just root.  I was in Vegas back in June, June 27 to be exact, and I placed 3 bets on the NFL Regular Season Win Totals.  Here are my 3 bets, what I was thinking then, and what I am thinking now.

I practiced what I preach and I had a set amount of money that was for all bets on the Season O/U.  After doing what felt like the appropriate amount of research, wound up with 3 teams.  It is important to note that my mindset was not to find 3 teams, but to simply see if there was anything worth wagering on.  And the selections were:
Description Description Description
New York Jets OVR 7 (-160)
Dallas Cowboys UND 11 (-115)
New England Patriots UND 12.5 (+105)

Jason Campbell of the Washington Redskins

WASHINGTON REDSKINS
2007 RECORD: 9-7

Overview: The 2007 Redskins did make the playoffs after a strong finish to the regular season, winning four straight.  That gives ‘Skins fans a reason to be excited.  A new coaching staff though is going to have to make significant strides during preseason camp to get an average offense to hit their stride.  Jim Zorn, by all accounts, has a great football mind, but he is the head coach and offensive coordinator* and has never held either of these positions in the NFL.  Expect some growing pains early on and a heavy reliance on their defense.

*Sherman Smith is listed as the Offensive Coordinator but Zorn will be making the play calls.
