Does Miley Cyrus Know Who She Is?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Gossip, Pop,
Pay attention, kids. This is what living inside the Disney bubble might do to you. Miley Cyrus is so out-of-touch with her own music and her own image, she doesn’t even think she’s a pop singer.
Uhhh…what? Watch the interview above, where Miley Cyrus admits she’s “never heard a Jay-Z” song, despite the lyrics of her popular joint “Party in the U.S.A.” The Disney darling goes on to say she’s not a pop singer - it’s “not even my style.” Somebody, let this child get in touch with reality.

Jay-Z May Collaborate with Oasis’ Liam Gallagher
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Collaborations, Hip-Hop & Rap, Rock,
Jay-Z has urged Liam Gallagher to call him about a collaboration after learning hip-hop star Snoop Dogg wants to work with Liam’s brother Noel.
Noel recently quit Oasis following a series of rows with his brother. He also clashed with Jay-Z last year after criticizing the decision to have the rapper headline the Glastonbury music festival.
“I hear Snoop Dogg might be teaming up with Noel. If that’s the case then I would love to work with Liam,” Jay-Z said. “Their music is tight and I think we could blend our styles well. When I teamed up with Linkin Park nobody expected that to work but we made a massive success of it. The same could happen with Liam. When you have two artists like us in a room just throwing about ideas you come up with something brilliant fairly easily. I don’t know what he is up to now but he can give me a call.”

VIDEO: Jay-Z on Using the N-Word
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Gossip, Hip-Hop & Rap,
Believe it or not—Mackenzie Phillips wasn’t the only buzzworthy guest on Oprah Winfrey’s talk show last week. On Thursday, the talk show queen also welcomed Jay-Z to her Chicago set.
During his visit to the show, the 39-year-old covered a number of topics including his drug-dealing past, Rihanna and his nice smell. The musician also taught the talk show host how to rap and engaged in an amicable debate.
Winfrey, who openly admits that she is not a “big fan of rap music,” explained that her feelings about the genre stem from the use of “misogynist lyrics and because of the use of the N-word.” The latter issue is something Jay-Z and the host will never see eye to eye on.

Jay-Z Defends Kanye West’s VMAs Outburst
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Gossip, Videos, Hip-Hop & Rap,
Jay-Z has defended Kanye West’s behavior at the MTV Video Music Awards.
The “Love Lockdown” star has come under fire for storming the stage when Taylor Swift was accepting her Best Female Video prize, but his mentor insists the incident has been blown out of proportion.
“Kanye is like my little brother he’s just a super-passionate person. Of course it was rude because it was her moment, but that’s what he believed. I think it’s been blown out of proportion, he didn’t kill anybody, no one got harmed,” he said. “I think he’s passionate and he needs to watch that. At the end of the day, we’ll celebrate him for his passion rather than vilify him, because the thing which causes him to make great records is what also makes him step out of line. He was inappropriate, it wasn’t fair to Taylor at all. Move on. But I don’t think he should lay low.”

Pharrell Williams Inspiring Kids with Anger
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Collaborations, Gossip, Hip-Hop & Rap,
Pharrell Williams and Jay-Z made an “angry” record so young people would relate to it.
The duo collaborated on “So Ambitious” and the 36-year-old Neptunes star said they deliberately give the track - which is about adults who attempt to curb younger people’s dreams - a “spiteful” edge so that it would have more appeal.
“We wanted to make a record that speaks to kids. There’s a couple of lewd words there, but I wanted to make sure that kids heard this record and felt inspired,” Williams said. “That’s why there’s a little bit of anger to it. There’s anger in his verses, there’s anger in my chorus. That’s why I say spiteful things at the top of the record. There’s anger there, because there’s heat. Because you’re young and people are telling you what you can and can’t do. Unacceptable.”
Pharrell and 39-year-old Jay-Z - real name Shawn Carter - have previously collaborated on several occasions, but “So Ambitious” was the first time they had not worked in the same place.

Jay-Z Working to Stay Relevant
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Gossip, Hip-Hop & Rap,
Jay-Z fears he is growing too old for hip-hop.
The “99 Problems” hitmaker admits he is aware that most artists in the genre are under 30, and as he approaches 40, staying relevant is harder - unless audiences change. He said:
“Hip-hop saved my life. When someone does something for you, it’s only right you repay that tenfold, and that was what hip-hop did for me. How could I not protect that or leave it in a good place for the next generation? The reason you turn off the hip hop as you mature is because there’s not enough of what you’re going through in your life currently. There’s not a lot of people who have come of age in rap because it’s only 30. As more people come of age, hopefully the topics get broader and then the audience will stay around longer. But it’s so much viewed as a young person’s sport right now at this present moment that it’s very difficult. You want to get on the radio, and you’ve got to make a jingle that’s catchy, that sounds like everything else that’s on the radio. Not me, the other guy.”

Jay-Z, Rihanna and Kanye in Run This Town video
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Music Videos, Hip-Hop & Rap,
So what does it take to properly “Run This Town”? Judging by Jay-Z, Rihanna and Kanye West’s appearances, the key is fashionable eyewear. (Sexy stockings also apparently help.)
In this video for Jay-Z’s new single, the trio rallies a group of torch-bearing, bandana-wearing followers to do…something. Maybe they’ll be in the crowd when the song is performed on Jay Leno’s new show?

Lil’ Wayne may have had the most nominations going in, but he wasn’t the biggest winner coming out.
Next to Rihanna and Chris Brown, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss were the biggest newsmakers of the 51st Annual Grammy Awards. The collaboration between the Led Zeppelin lead singer and the bluegrass artist earned the duo five awards last night including Album of the Year for Raising Sand and Record of the Year. Prior to yesterday, Plant, 60, had only racked up one Grammy in his career. (Krauss, on the other hand, is now up to 26.)
