The CW’s new fall season looked very promising - at first. After some seriously low ratings, the network decided to make a few big changes. People were fired, shows were cut and The Beautiful Life was changed for ever. The series was cut after only two episodes aired. Ouch. Thanks to YouTube, Life goes on.

The Beautiful Life Lives Again on YouTube
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Prime Time, The CW, Internet,
The season’s very first canceled program is now getting a second life…on the internet.
The Beautiful Life - featuring Mischa Barton, Sara Paxton and Elle McPherson - was only able to air two episodes before it was yanked by the CW. That left three finished hours sitting on the shelves.
Not wanting to waste what he helped produce, Ashton Kutcher has announced that the remaining segments will be available via YouTube. As of today, the first three weeks have been posted. The last two will debut on Monday.
“What we feel like we’re doing is creating, in some ways, an industry first,” Kutcher told Reuters. “A show that couldn’t find its legs on television, we believe can find its legs on the Web.”
Thanks to a partnership with Hewlett-Packard, all episodes will air commercial-free.

The Beautiful Life Canceled by CW
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Prime Time, The CW, Cancellations, Ratings,

There’s some good news and bad news for Mischa Barton.
The good news? She can now shelve that “My Wisdom Teeth Put Me in the Psych Ward” story. The bad news? She now has more free time on her hands.
Despite a recent debut on the runway, The Beautiful Life has officially become the first major cancellation of the fall fashion season. The CW dimmed the lights on the Ashton Kutcher-produced show after two weeks of dismal ratings.

Wednesday Ratings: TBL Not-So-Beautiful for the CW
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Drama, Prime Time, The CW, Ratings, Video,
Looks like the new teen-friendly, high-society programming schedule at the CW isn’t paying off as well as expected. The network’s new and much-touted series The Beautiful Life: TBL is failing miserably in the ratings race.
The series gained only a 0.5 rating last night with its target 18-49 audience, while getting a rather dismal 1.05 million viewers total. What’s okay on cable just won’t do for a network that’s trying to be a major player in the TV game. Even this TBL news wouldn’t be so bad, but both Melrose Place and 90210 are performing under expectations as well.
Looks like the CW needs to keep re-vamping their schedule…or, just show more Vampire Diaries.

Friday Ratings: NBC Makes a Week End Mark
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Award Shows, Comedy, Drama, Games, Kids, Music, Sci-Fi/Horror, Talk Shows, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, Medium, Ratings,
Up until now, CBS has traditionally dominated Friday nights with its Ghost Whisperer/Numb3rs combo. But could Jay Leno potentially change that? Although we’re still a week away from finding out, the program got off to a nice start this weekend. Primetime’s new 10:00 show helped give NBC a win in both the viewers and the demos.
8pm
- Dateline NBC (2.0/7 in 18-49) averaged 7.4 million over two hours.
- Approximately 5 million watched the finale of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? (1.0/4).
- Ghost Whisperer* (1.1/4) pulled in 4.6 million.
- The 2009 Alma Awards (0.6/2) attracted 2.2 million.
- Smallville* (0.6/2) dialed up 1.6 million.

Wednesday Ratings: Ugly Start for Beautiful Life
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Games, Music, Prime Time, Reality, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, America’s Next Top Model, So You Think You Can Dance, Ratings,
When it comes to shows about young adults, it seems audiences prefer characters who are awkward and musical—not pretty and anorexic. Yesterday’s debut of The Beautiful Life bombed despite an ANTM lead-in and raised approximately 5 million less than its FOX competitor (Glee). As Stanford Blatch would say, TBL was Wednesday night’s fashion roadkill.
8pm
- The finale America’s Got Talent (3.5/10 in 18-49) averaged 15.5 million over two hours.
- Wipeout (2.1/7) took 6.2 million down.
- So You Think You Can Dance (5.7 million, 2.4/7) slipped by 800,000.
- The New Adventures of Old Christine* (1.1/4) had 4.5 million laughing; Gary Unmarried* (1.2/4) turned in 4.5 million.
- America’s Next Top Model (2.8 million, 1.4/4) took a 400,000 hit.

Another High School Musical Star Strips Down
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Drama, Prime Time, The CW, Gossip,

This time, the Disney star appearing in the buff has proper airbrushing and the esteem of a promotional campaign behind him - no grainy Webcam pics for HSM’s Corbin Bleu.
He’s one of four celebs posing, almost-nude, in new pics for The Beautiful Life, and he’s looking quite grown up. Ben Hollingsworth, Sara Paxton and Ashley Madekwe also appear in their own pictures for the campaign, but Mischa Barton is curiously absent.
The new CW series will premiere on September 16.
