Famed Romance Author Kathleen Woodiwiss Turns Her Last Page

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Talent, Gossip, News,

Book Kathleen E. Woodiwiss, the author responsible for a bevy of best-selling, steamy romance titles, has passed away at the age of 68. The writer’s first book, The Flame and the Flower, was an instant best seller in 1972, and Woodiwiss has been turning out regular titles ever since. Woodiwiss died of cancer in Minnesota last Friday, according to son Sean. Over the past thirty-five years, Woodiwiss published thirteen novels – every single one of which made it to the New York Times best seller list. Woodiwiss was known for turning out detailed, thick novels in the 600-page range, setting her apart in an industry that was known for much skinnier volumes. She received a lifetime achievement award from the Romance Writers of America in 1988. Her last book, Everlasting, will hit the shelves in October 2007.

Gotta Love Anderson Cooper

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Prime Time, Cable,

Anderson CooperDid you hear that 3.2 million viewers tuned in to watch the Larry King interview with Paris Hilton? Sadly, I was one of those 3.2 million (and I am in no way proud of that). OK, so I was reading at the same time, so the interview didn’t have my undivided attention. Nor should it. I’m surprised that they could even stretch an hour out of the whole thing. Seems there wasn’t much to say, but I did like how Larry asked her what her favorite bible passage was and she said she didn’t have a favorite. Classic. Anyway, onto Anderson Cooper, with his 360 following the interview. Poor Cooper was forced to dissect the interview with a panel of experts and it was obviously painful for him. I think it was more worthwhile to tune into Cooper’s uncomfortable play-by-play than to watch the actual interview itself. The story seemed to be of little importance to him, but he had to begin with this disclaimer, “We can’t be above the news of the moment.” From that intro, you knew he wasn’t going to have his heart in the game. At one point he commented, “Well, you know, I know, I don’t really, I don’t understand her. I don’t understand her appeal, I don’t understand what she’s done.” Classic. I’ve been a big fan of Anderson since his days of hosting the reality show The Mole. Ah, dry wit. How I love thee.

Kelly Clarkson Cancels Summer Tour

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, FOX, American Idol, Talent, Gossip, News,

Kelly Clarkson, who was first introduced to the public as a contestant on a brand-new FOX show called American Idol, canceled her summer concert on Thursday. Clarkson has recently had problems with her record label and her manager, and says “touring is just too much too soon.” The real problem is not in Kelly’s reluctance to continue, however, but in the reluctance of her fans to purchase tickets. Clarkson booked several huge venues for the upcoming tour, and seats are not selling. Instead of scaling back on the dates and perhaps moving Clarkson from large arenas to more intimate settings, the entire summer tour has gone out the window. Will all the media attention and subsequent fall of her tour be enough to end Clarkson’s promising post-Idol career? Not hardly. Kelly Clarkson has one thing many pop divas of today lack: the courage to stick.

Anna Nicole Smith Death Results Kept Secret For Now

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Editorial, Features, Gossip, News,

Anna Nicole Smith kisses son Daniel Medical Examiner Joshua Perper, of Broward County, signed Anna Nicole Smith’s cause of death as “pending” on her official death certificate last Wednesday. Yesterday, one week after the certificate was signed, Perper announced that a cause of death has been officially determined. Smith, 39, was found unconscious and unresponsive in her Florida hotel room on February 8, 2007. Hours later, Smith was pronounced dead by medical personnel at the Memorial Regional Hospital. One month later, at least one man finally knows some of the answers to the many questions Anna’s untimely death has raised.

But he isn’t going to tell, at least not yet. In fact, it could take weeks for the cause of death of Anna Nicole Smith to be made public, according to Perper. For now, the Medical Examiner’s office is waiting until the official police investigation is over before those results are released. The Florida police are out in full force investigating the details of the case, but reports say it could still take several more weeks before anything conclusive is determined. Until then, the cause of Anna’s death will remain a mystery to the rest of us.

Entertainment News Overtaken by Britney’s Bald Head

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Music, Reality, Gossip, News, Rumors,

Britney Spears In my quest to find worthy TV news fit for blogging today, it seems that Britney Spears’ shaving her head is top news. There’s no room for anything else interesting in the entertainment world. Between her and the circus that’s unfolding following Anna Nicole Smith’s death, there’s not much left for us to talk about. Anna Nicole, I can understand. There are so many unanswered questions, including the custody of her baby, that I see why the entertainment media has a lot of ground to cover. A pop star shaving her head and getting a tattoo? I don’t get it. It’s strange, yes. But, is it so newsworthy that the media has to keep covering the story? I would prefer seeing less of her shaved head until they actually have some news about why she did it. Perhaps we’ll never know. Here’s the thing—it will grow back. And when it does, that will be the top entertainment story of the day!

Anna Nicole Smith Dead at Age 39

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: News,

Anna Nicole Smith Soon after news broke that Anna Nicole Smith had collapsed in a Florida hotel, it was reported that the tabloid favorite had died. Smith, who was born Vickie Lynn Hogan, first became famous for her Guess jeans ads and Playboy centerfold spread. Later, she provided a steady stream of tabloid material when she married an 89-year-old oil tycoon. She remained in the spotlight as the legal battle for his fortune continued. At one point, she had her own reality show on E! and continued to appear in tabloids for her growing waistline. The recent death of her 20-year-old son, birth of her new daughter, and question over the father of her child all contributed a great deal of stress to the bubbly blond. Just days ago, it was announced that Smith would be sued for her role as spokeswoman for the TrimSpa weight-loss supplement. She was found in her hotel room at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel this afternoon, and passed away shortly thereafter. The cause of death is under investigation, with an autopsy scheduled for Friday.

‘Today’ Show Adding A Fourth Hour

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, NBC, News, Ratings,

Meredith Vieira I literally had to do a double take when I read that the Today show was going to extend to a fourth hour. Huh? Really? I know America loves a morning news program, and no one does it better than Today, but that seems a wee bit excessive. What will hour four look like and why are they doing it? Well, the expansion, which is set to begin in September, takes the top-rated show the extra mile. More time on the air, more money, blah, blah, blah. NBC News president Steve Capus said of the extension, “The success of the Today show has been remarkable throughout its history, and the program has never been in a better position than it is right now. This is a tribute to all the dedicated hard work of Matt [Lauer], Meredith [Vieira], Al [Roker], Ann [Curry] and the entire behind the scenes team. You can’t do this with a program that isn’t a powerhouse—and that is exactly what we have at Today.” No word yet on who will take over anchor duties for the fourth hour. Vieira is under contract as host of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, so she bails after 9 a.m. More details about anchor duties will come as the extended show gets closer.

The Wiggles’ Yellow Shirted Singer Leaves Group

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Kids, Music, Cable, Cable/Satellite, News,

The WigglesA sad day for fans of the popular kids’ show, The Wiggles. In a recorded statement, yellow shirted performer Greg Page said he would be leaving the group due to illness. Page has been diagnosed with orthostatic intolerance, which is a chronic condition, but not life-threatening. The 34-year-old singer said that due to the illness “I’ll no longer be able to sing and dance as I want to, and as a result I’ve decided to stop performing with The Wiggles.” Apparently the disorder causes dizziness, nausea and fatigue—and with a rigorous schedule of live tours that are packed with plenty of dancing, the show can’t go on for Page. An understudy, who has performed as a backup singer and dancer for the group, as well as filled in for tour dates that Page had to drop out of, will be filling the yellow shirt. “I’ll miss being a part of The Wiggles very much, but this is the right decision because it will allow me to focus on managing my health,” Page said. The Wiggles were named Australia’s top-earning entertainer last year, pulling in $39 million.

Celebration and Tragedy for Anna Nicole Smith

Anna NicoleJust days after the celebrating the arrival of her newborn daughter, Anna Nicole Smith is now coping with the death of her son.  Daniel Smith - often seen on camera during The Anna Nicole Show days - was found dead on Sunday.  The 20-year-old had been visiting the Bahamas where his mother gave birth last Thursday.

The death—acknowledged by reps for TrimSpa (Anna’s diet product) and Smith’s personal website—remains a mystery.  “We have yet to learn the cause of death but do not believe that drugs or alcohol were a factor,” the web statement said.  Meanwhile, the Royal Bahamian Police Force will only confirm that a celebrity’s son was found deceased at Nassau’s private Doctor’s Hospital.
