Keith Olbermann will be back in his office before his laptop gets cold.

The newsman will be behind the desk on Tuesday, when MSNBC relaxes the suspension he earned for violating NBC rules. (Olbermann donated $2,400 to three different political campaigns: Kentucky Senate candidate Jack Conway and Arizona Representatives Raul Grijalva and Gabrielle Giffords.)

Phil Griffin, MSNBC chief exec, said that Olbermann’s two-day ban was “an appropriate punishment for his violation of our policy.”

MSNBC has firm rules about political donations, of which Olbermann was definitely aware. Despite the cable news network’s well-known left-leaning stance, the donation ban is obviously imposed to make the channel look more like a respectable news organization.

FOX News maintains a much looser stance. Sean Hannity donated $5,000 to Minnesota Representative Michele Bachmann, and the network has no qualms about hiring regular contributions who in no way have any journalistic experience whatsoever.
