Thursday Ratings: FOX and CBS Each Take Half

Incredible spellers or not, the competitors of this year’s National Spelling Bee couldn’t topple the showdown between Sex and Leonid on SYTYCD. The reality program helped FOX win another battle in the demos while CBS was on top with the viewers.

8pm

• NCIS* (9.6 million, 1.9/6 in 18-49) was up 2.2 million from last week.
• So You Think You Can Dance (9.1 million, 3.6/11) had the best demos of the night.
• Approximately 5.5 million watched Kavya Shivashankar win the Scripps National Spelling Bee (1.5/5) on ABC.
• My Name is Earl* (1.2/4) turned in 3.5 million; 30 Rock* (1.1/4) rounded up 3.1 million.
• Smallville* (1.4 million, 0./2) remained even.

• Jon & Kate Plus Eight (TLC, 9pm):  Season premiere. “Jon and Kate discuss recent controversies surrounding their family.” Is anyone else feeling really uncomfortable right now?
• Medium (NBC, 10pm):  “Joe lands in San Diego with a new job, upending the DuBois family and forcing Allison to contend with his absence.” The family will later reunite when they make their move to CBS.
• Keeping Up with the Kardashians (E!, 10:30pm):  “Kourtney and Khloe both experience heartbreak when they deal with ending relationships.” Being abruptly dumped by Donald Trump has has been difficult for Khloe.
• The Tonight Show (NBC, 11:30pm): Mel Gibson kicks off Jay Leno’s final week. I wonder if he’ll have any interesting stories to share.

Friday Ratings: Tight Race for Few Viewers

Learning how to spell g-u-e-r-d-o-n was about the most exciting thing that happened to viewers on Friday evening. By night’s end, CBS was a winner in the viewers while NBC was tops in the demos.

8pm

• Ghost Whisperer* (1.4/6 in 18-49) haunted 5.7 million.
• ABC‘s coverage of the Scripps National Spelling Bee (1.1/4) had 4.6 million biting their nails.
• Most Outrageous Moments* (4.4 million, 1.1/5) was off track by 500,000.
• Friday Night Smackdown (3.7 million, 1.1/4) roped in 400,000 more.
• FOX‘s Little Black Book (2.5 million, 0.9/3) saw 1.5 million less than last week’s movie.
