MONDAY 1/19)
  • The Secret Life of the American Teenager (ABC Family, 8pm):  “Ricky’s dad arrives in town with a proposal for how Ricky should handle impending fatherhood.” Apparently leaving town is an option?
  • House (FOX, 8pm):  “Cuddy discovers that caring for her newly adopted baby leaves her little time to run the hospital.” Taking care of House and a baby is an impossible feat.
  • Bromance (MTV, 9pm):  “The guys embark on a camping trip, but before reaching their destination, they stop at a biker bar where each must face off against a huge biker in the parking lot.” The reality is, many people want to kick ‘s ass. It’s time to hone their defense skills now.
  • Paranormal State (A&E, 10pm):  Season premiere. “A family believes their new home in suburban New Jersey is haunted. The team’s investigation leads them to dig in the yard for possible answers.” Haunting or no haunting, buried things in my yard is reason enough to move.

FOX Renews Prison Break, Cancels Jezebel James

The Return of Jezebel JamesFOX to Jezebel:  “Three strikes, you’re out.”

After only two weeks on air, the new comedy starring Parker Posey and Lauren Ambrose has just been given the boot.  The Return of Jezebel James - which averaged only 3.2 million viewers during its hour long debut - failed to give its network a reason to feel hopeful.  After a second dismal outing, FOX opted to pull the plug on the show….effective immediately.

This news comes shortly after Canterbury’s Law was shifted to the Friday 9pm time slot.  That move was prompted by the program’s lackluster returns in its original Monday position.  Now that Jezebel has been axed, it’s unclear which show and/or repeat will serve as Canterbury‘s lead-in during the interim.

Episode Order Cut for ‘Jezebel James’

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, FOX,

Parker Posey It’s never a good sign when the number of episodes ordered for a series gets cut. I’d think it’s a bit of doom and gloom when the show hasn’t even aired yet, but hey, at least the network is still giving it a chance. Albeit a much smaller chance. I’m talking about The Return of Jezebel James, the new sitcom starring Parker Posey. I love Posey—if you’re not familiar with her, check her out in Waiting for Guffman or Best in Show. She’s quirky and adorable and shies away from the mainstream (mostly). So, when I heard she’d be starring in a sitcom I immediately thought she was selling out a bit. No? The Fox comedy was set to run 13 episodes, but the network has trimmed the order to just seven. Is that bad news for the new series? We’ll have to wait and see, I suppose. The premise—Posey is a book editor who asks her sister (played by Lauren Ambrose) to be a surrogate since she’s unable to conceive. According to Fox, “We have always planned to launch The Return of Jezebel James in midseason, and seven episodes are all we need to allow us to program the series through the current broadcast season.” There you have it. Midseason replacement equals a short order. The show was created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, who also created Gilmore Girls.
