No one was sent home the week before, as the judges chose to use their save for Casey Abrams, so two singers had to leave American Idol on Thursday night. The show gave us a dramatic intro to lead up to the episode, which was peppered with video montages, performances and recaps from the preceding night.
Voters set a new record for the show, offering up 55 million votes to keep their favorites in the contest. But who managed to win too few hearts and wind up with theirs broken?

American Idol 9: Top 4 Perform

The theme of American Idol 9’s Top 4 night was movie music, a sweeping genre encompassing many wonderful tunes. Jamie Foxx returned to Idol as the week’s mentor. He found the theme to be “a big task,” for the contestants. Foxx gave the four remaining singers T-shirts, one marked “Artist” and one marked “Contestant.”
“America wants to see the artist,” he explained to Ryan Seacrest.

Jay Leno’s Second Tonight Show Debut
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, Late Night, NBC, Video,
Jay Leno opened his return to The Tonight Show with a Wizard of Oz montage which featured a surprise cameo from Betty White. He would need the star power, as his guest list for the night wasn’t all that amazing.
“I’m Jay Leno, your host. At least for a while,” he shot his opening volley, made a reference to “Dave” Letterman and “Oprah” Winfrey and made a few fast-paced Olympic quips. Leno’s not looking so hot, his lightning-speed timing is hard to follow and you’ve got to wonder how long he’s going to last as the Tonight host.
No monologue references to Conan O’Brien, which may or may not have been a mistake. His Tiger Woods jokes, albeit rather old news at this point, were pretty good.

Will Ferrell might not be interested in visiting The Tonight Show anytime soon, but there are plenty of other celebrities who are still willing to promote themselves
support Jay Leno.
Based on the star-studded list released by NBC, Leno’s booking department is having an easy time finding guests for his return to late night—but will the viewers actually be tuning in to watch them?
Check out the names after the jump and let us know if you’ll be welcoming back Jay.

BET Awards to Honor Jackson This Weekend
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Award Shows, Music, Prime Time, Cable, Video,
Later this weekend, a large pre-arranged gathering will have the opportunity to public mourn Michael Jackson’s death.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the June 28th broadcast of the 2009 BET Awards will be devoted to the musical icon. Producer Stephen Hill reports a high interest from the participants to honor their idol. “I think what you’re going to find is that acceptance speeches for awards will have nothing to do about the artists themselves, but about the influence that Michael Jackson had on them,” Hill said.

American Idol 8: Top 5 Results
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip,
The eighth season of American Idol is winding down, which means the competition is heating up. “I have your results!” Ryan Seacrest promised at the top of the hour, touting 47 million votes and an evening filled with drama.
“Everybody was good,” Simon Cowell said of the preceding performance round, which occurred the night before the results show.
The same could not be said of the terrible Ford music video, which was again marked by bad choreography and poor cinematography. The Top 5 then performed a medley of “I Don’t Mean a Thing” and “I Got Rhythm.” I still didn’t get to hear “Swingin’ on a Star.” The Top 5 group performance was, in a word, awful. It was boring, the song choices were bad and the choreography was decidedly lackluster after last week’s highly entertaining performance.
The Idol contestant clip of the week showed the Top 5 in the kitchen, who attempted to make birthday cakes for celebrants Allison Iraheta and Danny Gokey. A horrendous mess ensued. Ryan Seacrest then gave Gokey a gift - a bill from Best Bets Maid Service, LLC. They charged $6,000 for the disaster in the kitchen. “You mean American Idol doesn’t take care of that?” Danny quipped.

American Idol 8: Top 5 Perform
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip,

The Top 5 performance night of American Idol 8 was all about the Rat Pack - that collection of music from five friends which will live on in the memories of all those who enjoyed Big Band classics. Naturally, I expected this round to be very, very boring indeed.
The Idols certainly looked the part when they stepped out onstage, the men wearing suits and Allison Iraheta in a very age-appropriate dress. The “mystery” mentor for this week was Oscar winner and successful recording artist Jamie Foxx. His clip showed him to be incredibly charming during his first meeting with the contestants.

Damon Wayans Returns to TV
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, ABC,
Remember when the Wayans brothers were a force to be reckoned with? I’m not sure what Marlon, Shawn or Keenen Ivory are up to these days, but Damon is giving TV another go. And he hasn’t been away for long, seeing as his popular show My Wife and Kids, which premiered in 2001, just ended in 2005. He’s coming back to ABC and has another pilot in the works. Of course, you can expect laughs from Wayans (that’s what he does best), but there will be a little sorrow too—he plays a widower who has to look after his estranged teenage stepson. Again, he’ll be playing the dad and this show will feature multiple cameras versus the single camera comedies of late. Wayans doesn’t seem to be fading from the spotlight anytime soon—after My Wife and Kids, he also exec produced a Showtime series called The Underground. Is anyone else hoping for the In Living Color reunion? How great would it be to get the Wayans family, David Alan Grier, Jamie Foxx, Tommy Davidson and Jim Carrey together again?

The 2007 Academy Awards: Live Commentary
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Award Shows, Specials, ABC, Editorial, Features,
Welcome to our live coverage of the 79th Annual Academy Awards! During our live-blog of the 2006 Oscars, I made what may now be considered an eerie prediction about Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe:
“For some reason, I keep getting this nagging feeling that their relationship will dissolve sometime soon, but that discussion is for another post.”
I’d like to say that I’m psychic (if so, that Oscars pool at work is all mine)...but I’m going to have to chalk it up to nagging intuition. What is that little voice inside me saying this year? While some races may have been locked up months ago (I’m talking to you, Helen Mirren), there will be a shocker this year. I can’t pinpoint the category, but I think it will be come riding in on a big yellow bus…
To find out who will be going hog-wild tonight during the Year of the Pig, stay tuned here for the live results!
