Gossip: Steven Tyler Signed to American Idol Deal

FOX is still parroting the “no comment” line, but insiders say Steven Tyler has already signed his name on the American Idol contract. According to one source, Tyler inked the deal last week. It’ll be fun to see whether he ties scarves around his desk mic, too. Now, the big question: who will join the Aerosmith front man at the judging table?
Rumor has it that Jennifer Lopez, who was named early as a possible new face on the panel, is asking for a $20 million salary on top of her own styling team and a large dressing room area (which is being referred to as a “compound”). Even despite all this, sources say that J-Lo still isn’t out of the running…though she’s not the only celeb FOX is currently speaking to about the American Idol gig.

VIDEO: Alec Baldwin Leaving 30 Rock to Pursue Normal Life

Although he’s already made it known that he’s leaving 30 Rock when his contract expires in 2012, Alec Baldwin now reveals that he wants to leave acting entirely—to pursue a more private, tabloid-free life.
“As much as I like acting I know that I would love to have a different life. A private life ... I think that doing this now for a living has become really, really hard. I would rather go do other things, and [with] whatever amount of time I have left in my life, have a normal life.”
When the interviewer points out that it may be impossible to do considering his current fame, Baldwin says, “I want to find out how close I can get.”

While it was inevitable that Victor Newman’s character would return in some form, fans of The Young and the Restless should be happy to know that the actor hasn’t changed.
After nearly a month of negotiations with his bosses (and public discussions with the media), soap opera vet Eric Braeden has agreed to return to the long-running CBS drama. The 68-year-old’s change of heart came just one week after telling Entertainment Weekly that he was done for good.

Ryan Seacrest’s Salary on the Rise

American Idol’s Ryan Seacrest is currently negotiating his contract, which could come with a pay hike that promotes him to one of the highest-paid hosting gigs in TV. Simon Cowell was the first to ink a deal for the ninth season of the show, with remaining regular cast members still in talks with FOX, Fremantle and 19 Entertainment.
The three companies jointly produce Idol (this helps explain why Idol has three times more promotion and product placement per episode than some shows see in an entire season), and Seacrest is getting further into the fold all the time. Reportedly, the reality TV mogul is working on a new series with 19 Entertainment and American Idol creator Simon Fuller. This could be the Lindsay Lohan project which has been Twittered about recently…or, it could be any one of the other umpteen TV gigs Seacrest has in the works.

Paula Abdul Confirmed to American Idol

Paula Abdul has been invited to be a part of American Idol for “the duration of the show, however long it lasts.” Though her contract for Season 9 isn’t official, the former pop princess says the #1 reality show is something she’ll always “want to be a part of.”
Simon Cowell recently got a huge pay hike from Idol, proving that he, too, will be returning for one more season at least.

Is T.R. Knight Leaving Grey’s Anatomy?

Although it seemed like we had moved past the Isaiah Washington controversy and Katherine Heigl’s controversial remarks, the backstage drama at Grey’s Anatomy continues. Just over a month after Dr. Erica Hahn’s exit comes word of another possible Seattle Grace departure. This one being a voluntary one.
According to Entertainment Weekly, T.R. Knight (Dr. George O’Malley) has asked Shonda Rhimes to be released from the show - three years shy of his contract’s expiration date. This news comes after earlier rumors that Knight had been skipping table reads and had recently walked off the set during filming. (A source denied that ever happened.)

Kim Cattrall Gets Own HBO Series

It seems eager fans were not the only ones who benefited from this weekend’s release of Sex and the City. One of the movie’s stars also received a nice bonus for it too.
As part of her agreement deal with HBO, Kim Cattrall will soon be getting her own series on the pay channel. Interestingly enough, her project comes with two themes her followers are quite familiar with: New York and sex.
In Sensitive Skin, Kim will play a wife and mother who tries to rediscover her sexuality and her place in the world. The show, which is an adaptation of a British series by the same name, will also have Cattrall on board as an executive producer.
This isn’t the first time the actress has done a side project for HBO. In 2005, she hosted a documentary called Kim Cattrall: Sexual Intelligence. I guess you gotta stick to what you know - right?

Family Guy’s Fate on FOX

Home of the nation’s number one show, 20th Century Fox will soon be paying one of their writer/producers one of the biggest salaries in TV. Here’s the twist: that person doesn’t work on American Idol.
Seth MacFarlane, creator of Family Guy and American Dad, will become the best-paid writer/producer on TV thanks to his new contract. The agreement ensures that Family Guy will remain on the air until 2012, but it also covers a few other projects still in the till. Under the terms of the contract, MacFarlane will continue to pen episodes of American Dad as well as The Cleveland Show (a planned Family Guy spinoff). “I get a lot of pleasure out of making show,” said MacFarlane to the press. “It’s a bonus to get getting paid well for it, and it’s a double bonus to be getting paid exorbitantly for it.” The amount in question remains undisclosed, though it is expected to soar above the $60 million, five-year contract offered to J.J. Abrams (Lost) in 2006.

Writers Strike Finally Over

We can officially start the jig now.
After more than 3 months on the picket lines, the Writers Guild of America has finally announced an end to their strike. Of the 3,775 votes cast, 92.5% elected to stop the walkout. This means WGA members can resume doing what they do best starting tomorrow.
While it may be weeks before we see new episodes of our favorite shows, this news will immediately affect those programs that churn out daily fare. This means we should expect to see the return of late-night monologues ASAP. Meanwhile, the folks behind Saturday Night Live anticipate a brand new show come Feb. 23rd. (Of course, in true SNL fashion, that will probably be followed up by a repeat the following weekend.)
Of course, we could be revisiting this whole work stoppage issue again at the end of June; that’s when the current contract between SAG/AFTRA and the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers is set to expire.
But let’s just think happy thoughts until then, okay?
