Jon Stewart Continues Daily Show Through 2010
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Talk Shows, Cable, Daily Show, The, Renewals,
Yesterday, after I posted about the new Daily Show website, I went over and tried to find some of my favorite clips. Only, I couldn’t get it to load. Seems other rabid fans were jamming up the works and so I was left broken hearted. I did check in later last night and was able to find a favorite Steve Carell clip, so life is good again. And life is great for Jon Stewart, who has extended his contract with Comedy Central. Under the extension, he will continue to host the show through 2010. Ahh. Let’s all take a collective sigh of relief… although could you really expect him to go anywhere just yet? And Stewart is pleased as well, saying, “I love doing this show. I feel like I work with and for the best in the business. I look forward to using this extension to having great fun at President Colbert’s expense.” Stewart is, of course, riding high with both The Daily Show‘s and The Colbert Report‘s success, and will have a new show from his Busboy Productions Inc., called Important Things with Demetri Martin. The man is no slouch, that’s for sure.

A Challenge to Watch Psychics
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, Cable, Gossip,
America’s Psychic Challenge is suddenly starting to make John Edwards seem extremely gifted…and the show has barely started. Sixteen psychics (by their own personal claims) compete in the Lifetime show to win $100,000, working their way through different events. One challenge put a celebrity hidden behind a screen, calling psychics to guess about the personality dwelling therein. The psychic who won the event said the celeb was “a little demanding” and “working on a book.” Another winning psychic, taken to an LA neighborhood and told to guess at the crime scene, said they sensed a gun. Somehow, I feel as though I could compete in America’s Psychic Challenge, and I personally think it’s hooey.

Patrick Swayze Revives Career With A&E Pilot
Posted by David Onda Categories: Action, Drama, Prime Time, Cable, Editorial, News,
Just when you thought that the world was ready to let Patrick Swayze’s career rest in peace, A&E comes along and proves that they just can’t let sleeping dirty dancers lie. Variety is reporting that Swayze has signed on to star as a rough-n-tumble, take no crap from anybody undercover FBI agent for the pilot of the upcoming A&E series, The Beast. You just can’t stop this man, he is like the wind.
Swayze will star alongside Travis Fimmel (best know for, if at all, his role on WB’s Tarzan) who will play his more straight-laced partner. Move over Benson and Stabler, Swayze and Fimmel are taking over the streets! Beast will be produced by Sony Pictures which has yet to announce an air date or what retirement home they pulled Swayze out of.

Stephen Colbert’s Pocket Challenge
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, Cable, Daily Show, The, Gossip,
Stephen Colbert, Comedy Central host and leader of the Colbert Nation, threw down the gauntlet to Congressman Dennis Kucinich, who is currently on the presidential campaign trail with something close to twenty other Joes (and one Jane). Kucinich has accepted, and will appear on the October 15 show to take part in Colbert’s pocket challenge. As part of the challenge, Kucinich will empty his pockets onstage before Colbert cameras. Will he get the famous “Colbert bump” for his appearance on the show?
Both The Colbert Report and The Daily Show have been getting big guests recently. Jon Stewart will interview several A-list celebs in his upcoming shows, right on the heels of a visit from Lynn Cheney, wife of Dick.
MTV: Behind the Crown
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Reality, Cable, MTV, Gossip,
When I hear about shows like this, I long for the days when MTV stuck to videos – not reality. But those days are over, and now Music Television is giving viewers something never-before-seen: Beauty Queens as TV stars. Gack. Led by former Miss USA Tara Conner (who was very nearly stripped of her crown for alcohol abuse), several pageant queens will crew up on the cable channel.
Pageant Place debuted this week, the first in an eight-part series, and follows the lives of Miss Universe, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA winners. They’ll be roommates…kinda like The Real World (which will continue into perpetuity…no matter how sick of it we get). The beautiful girls will live in New York City for one year, with Conner as an “unofficial peer advisor.” Just keep her away from the booze. Donald Trump, who publicly reprimanded Tara but allowed her to keep her crown, will be dropping by Pageant Place to check up on the girls.
