At the Oscars: The 83rd Annual Academy Awards

James Franco and Anne Hathaway Hosting 83rd Academy AwardsThe 83rd Academy Awards opened with a montage of the handful of movies they’ve decided to honor this year. As usual, all nominations came from a select, certain group of movies in the long list that came out during 2010. If you didn’t see The Social Network, The King’s Speech, The Fighter, Black Swan or True Grit, the Oscars wanted you to feel like they’re absolutely can’t-miss films.

But, the award show did offer more than the usual back-patting the actors give themselves once a year.

“Oh my gosh, you’re all real…this is all happening,” Anne Hathaway grinned from the stage as the smoke cleared. Her diamond-covered white gown was a perfect choice for the opening monologue, which was peppered with jokes about James Franco’s nomination and Hathaway’s lack of one (“it used to be, you get naked, you get nominated…not any more”).

ABC Cancels More Adam Lambert Gigs

Adam Lambert on the American Music Awards

Looks like will be in ABC’s doghouse a little while longer.

The singer’s controversial number on the American Music Awards has already cost him a performance on GMA, now he’s lost two other gigs on that same network. Lambert’s previously scheduled appearance on the Dec. 17 broadcast of Jimmy Kimmel Live has just been dropped. A tentative booking on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve is off as well.

AMAs: East Coast vs. West Coast Experience

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Award Shows, Music, Prime Time, Specials, ABC, Video,

If you live on the West Coast, you missed seeing J-Lo …not to mention a few other things. Because of the time difference, a few changes could be implemented for the AMAs as seen in California, a distinctly more polished version than the broadcast spied in the East.

Some of the saltier moments could certainly stand the editing which followed for PST viewers, but Jennifer Lopez getting tripped up? Why should such a moment be hidden from a portion of the watching audience? Well, the answer seems simple enough - to make J-Lo look good. According to ABC, “We did not expect the impromptu moment in question,” well, I should say so. “Execs and producers felt it was respectful to Ms. Lopez to edit the mishap for later time zones.”

VIDEO: Adam Lambert Brings Controversy to American Music Awards

I’m guessing this wasn’t the kind of “entertainment” ABC was hoping to see from .

At tonight’s , the American Idol finalist raised eyebrows higher than his own hairstyle. During an S&M-laced performance of “For Your Entertainment,” Lambert leads a male dancer around the stage with a leash, simulates oral sex and then later kisses a male keyboardist—all on live TV. (Just in case you hadn’t already heard—he’s gay.)

Although it’s unclear which portions ABC was prepared for, E!‘s Marc Malkin said the kiss was not the cards. “Very good source tells me that ABC and producers did NOT know adam lambert was going to makout w/keyboardist…” Malkin tweeted.

Wednesday Ratings: Taylor Swift Takes Down CBS

Up until last night, Modern Family had been ABC’s bright spot in the demos—that is, until Taylor Swift came along. Yesterday’s broadcast of the CMA Awards - plus Swift’s win for Entertainer of the Year - helped the network pull off wins in both the viewers and the demos this Wednesday.

BET Awards to Honor Jackson This Weekend

Later this weekend, a large pre-arranged gathering will have the opportunity to public mourn Michael Jackson’s death.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the June 28th broadcast of the 2009 BET Awards will be devoted to the musical icon. Producer Stephen Hill reports a high interest from the participants to honor their idol. “I think what you’re going to find is that acceptance speeches for awards will have nothing to do about the artists themselves, but about the influence that Michael Jackson had on them,” Hill said.

2009 Screen Actors Guild Awards

Screen Actors Guild Awards

Last January, the Screen Actors Guild Awards was considered a pleasant distraction from all the writers’ strike business. Since the actors now face their own work stoppage, this year’s event once again served as a nice diversion.

With the Academy Awards less than a month away, tonight’s ceremony gave us a better idea of how that broadcast might pan out. Was Kate Winslet another double-winner this evening? Did Mickey Rourke wrestle an additional victory? Is Heath Ledger on his way to that posthumous Oscar? Get all the details after the jump!
