American Idol Continues to Plead Ellen’s Case

Everyone at American Idol - even those formerly on the show - has been stepping forward to tell us why Ellen DeGeneres, comedienne and talk show host, is a great choice for the nation’s number one singing-themed reality show. And frankly, I’m not buying it.
“She loves the show, she loves music, and she’s a star,” said Kara DioGuardi, perhaps not realizing that many celebrities could easily fit the three criteria. “You got to be a star to win the show.” That’s not to say that winning the show will make you a star. Anyone know where Taylor Hicks is these days?

VIDEO: President Obama Visits David Letterman
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Late Night, Talk Shows, CBS, Video,
Although he had already appeared on five different talk shows over the weekend, President Obama disclosed new information during his first Late Show visit as a sitting POTUS.
“First of all, I think it’s important to realize that I was actually black before the election,” the President clarified to America last night. The humorous comment - a response to the supposed presence of racism in the health care debate - was followed by shock. “Really!... How long have you been a black man?” David Letterman joked.
And while it was clear Obama had an agenda behind his appearance (he said he wanted to see the heart-shaped potato an audience member brought), the host presented his own “Top Ten Reasons President Obama Agreed To Appear On The Late Show.” You can read those after the jump.

VIDEO: Paula Abdul Impersonates Ellen DeGeneres
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Music, Specials, Cable, Video,
Paula Abdul may have moved on from American Idol, but will she ever stop talking about?
On yesterday’s VH1 Divas special, the former judge used her hosting position to reference her old job not once…but twice. In the clip above, the choreographer hit the stage while doing her best Ellen DeGeneres impersonation. (Although the dancing was admittedly funny, Abdul should have stopped right before making the Simon Cowell comment.)
After the jump, you can also see Paula do her best impersonation of someone who lip synchs and dances at the same time. (Note: If you’re pretending to sing, don’t tilt the microphone away from you.) If you make it to the “Opposites Attract” section, you’ll catch an additional nod to Cowell there.

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, FX, DVD, Video,
Not yet ready for tonight’s premiere of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia? Then maybe this video will get you warmed up.
In this exclusive clip from the program’s Season 4 DVD package, Dennis Reynolds (actor Glenn Howerton) does his best Alistar Cooke to present a unique rendition of his steamy memoir. (I’m not entirely sure Masterpiece Theater ever looked like this.) This bonus feature from the three-disc set is a companion piece to last October’s episode: “Dennis Reynolds: An Erotic Life.”
Season 5 of Philadelphia airs Thursdays @ 10:00 on FX. You can also pick up Season 4 which was just released on DVD this week..

Tuesday Ratings: Is Melrose Place Already Over?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Drama, Prime Time, Reality, NBC, The CW, Ratings, Video,
Apparently, even a murder-mystery just isn’t enough to keep the viewers coming back. Melrose Place, one of the CW’s most promising new dramas, took a severe ratings tumble in its second week. Could this be the end of sultry twenty-something California living…again?
Melrose fell to below two million viewers despite its hefty 90210 lead-in, getting soundly whipped in its time slot by The Biggest Loser‘s premiere over on NBC. The CW gained around 2.3 million for the Melrose Place premiere a week before, which was well below expectations for the revamped series.

Hayden Panettiere and Masi Oka Talk Heroes Season 4
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Action, Drama, Prime Time, Sci-Fi/Horror, NBC, Heroes, Gossip, News, Rumors, Spoilers, Video,
Heroes favorites Masi Oka and Hayden Panettiere took some time out to talk about the upcoming season, specifically what’s going on with Hiro and Claire’s new college roommate.
Last we saw our favorite Japanese villain-fighter extraordinaire, he wasn’t faring too well with fighting off a sickness he acquired. Oka elaborated on his character’s hardship:
“Hiro let someone into his world. The first time he stopped time while touching someone—in that case, it was Ando—that was first time he froze time with someone else in that freeze-time world. That was started the adverse effect in Hiro’s brain. The power is meant to have a capacity of one. When you start adding Ando, Suresh, and other people into that world, it just a strain that’s put on Hiro’s brain.”
Oka also revealed that the dynamic between Ando and Hiro changes when Ando marries Hiro’s sister and harnesses his powers, “It always changes, but once Ando got his powers, it was more equal footing. It wasn’t more of a Batman and Robin; it became more of a Batman and Superman. There’s something to be said to be said about the familiarity of the characters and what the audience wants and expects, but we want the characters to grow.”
