Casting Corner: In Plain Sight, Kath & Kim, Medium and More

Kim KardashianMaya Rudolph

Here’s a quick look at some of the casting announcements made recently:

CSI: Miami: No matter what you think of Diddy, you can’t deny the mans’ diversity. Who else could front several reality shows, star in A Raisin in the Sun and take on David Caruso? According to Entertainment Tonight, the mogul is scheduled to air in two episodes of the CBS drama next year. He will play a federal prosecutor (yeah, I know) who has a personal and professional beef with Horatio’s team.

Kath & Kim: Two actresses on opposite ends of the plastic surgery spectrum will soon hit the Thursday comedy. SNL‘s Maya Rudolph - who recently made a return to NBC - will be guesting as a spiritual advisor who helps Phil drops some pounds. Meawhile, Pamela Anderson will be working hard to play…herself.

How I Met Your Mother: A host of reality stars will be parading through the CBS program later next year. Kim Kardashian, Kendra Wilkinson, Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag will all appear as talking magazine covers to Marshall when he tries to find a private bathroom stall. (Because that’s where any news about Speidi should be read.) The foursome can be seen an episode airing in January.

Grey’s Anatomy: If you like seeing Cristina Yang crushing on the new doc, this one’s going to make you smile. Kevin McKidd, a.k.a. Dr. Owen Hunt, has just been upgraded from recurring player to series regular. Could this possibly mean a functional relationship in Yang’s future? Or is that as likely as a happily ever after for Derek and Meredith?

In Plain Sight: Joshua Malina will join USA’s In Plain Sight as a recurring character during its second outing. The West Wing vet will play Peter, a guy Brandi meets at an AA session. (I’m not sure if we should be concerned or happy that she’s now in AA.) No start date has been announced yet for the new season.

Gary Unmarried: Scooby Doo‘s Matthew Lillard will be hitting it up on the small screen in an episode of the freshman comedy. And surprisingly - there will be no Freddy Prinze Jr. in tow. (Where exactly did that guy go anyway?) Lillard will play Gary’s well-to-do (and annoying) ex brother-in-law. His appearance is scheduled in the show’s 13th half-hour.

Medium: Actress Tracy Pollan will be starring in a three-episode stint for the NBC drama. The woman who swept Alex P. Keaton off his feet will play a “corporate intuitionist” who tries to recruit Allison for her agency. (Shouldn’t she already know how this job placement will end up?) No air dates have been announced yet.

Dirty Sexy Money: Rena Sofer will soon be adding one more notch to her guest star belt. The actress who has appeared on everything from 24 to Heroes will now make a stop on the ABC show. Sofer will play a reporter who tries to get some scoop on the Darling family. Rena will appear on the Nov. 26th episode - the same one Samaire Armstrong (Juliet Darling) makes a return for.
