Chris Mullin amongst 12 finalists for Basketball Hall of FameThe Basketball Hall of Fame named 12 finalists for inclusion into the select group of outstanding basketball players/contributors to the game. Chris Mullin, Dennis Rodman, Jamaal Wilkes, and Tex Winters are among the dozen selected candidates. Maurice Cheeks, Ralph Sampson, Teresa Edwards (five-time Olympian), Tara VanDerveer (Stanford women's coach), Dick Motta (former NBA coach), Herb Magee (Philadelphia University coach), Hank Nichols (college basketball referee), and (Golden State Warriors VP/GM) Al Attles. Dennis Rodman should be a no-brainer to get in amongst the players, but hopefully Mullin also gets in there as he was a stellar college basketball player and one of the top shooters/scorers in the NBA during his time in the league. In fact, he was also a member of the first Olympics Dream Team.

Dennis Rodman to have his jersey retired by the Detroit PistonsDennis Rodman was and still is one of the biggest enigmas in sports. However, there is no questioning the validity in retiring his number 10 with the Detroit Pistons. He was 6'7" and barely weighed 200 pounds (210 to be exact), but was able to dominate the backboards on both ends of the court against the biggest centers and power forwards in the game. Rodman's desire to rebound is unmatched, even today, but how was it possible for such a thin player to do the things he did? He led the league in rebounding seven seasons in a row (1991-1998) and was named Defensive Player of the Year twice (1989-1991). As a personality of conflict and comedy, it's only appropriate that the jersey retirement takes place on April 1st this season.

The Cleveland Cavaliers end their losing streakThe basketball gods finally showed mercy to the Cleveland Cavaliers who ended their consecutive game losing streak at 26. They beat the Los Angeles Clippers 126-119 in overtime. It was a controversial victory as the Clippers' Baron Davis went in for a seemingly game-winning lay-up that was blocked by the Cavs' J.J. Hickson, but no goal-tending call was made. It was the Cavs' first win since December 18, 2010 and only their second win in their last 38 games. They remain tied for most consecutive losses by a professional sports franchise with football's Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Cleveland Cavaliers lose 26th straight gameThe Cleveland Cavaliers lost their 26th straight game against the Detroit Pistons, adding to their already NBA record of futility for consecutive losses in a season. With the loss they also tied the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for most consecutive losses in professional sports history. It's an understatement to say that things are not going well in Cleveland. It's obvious that a lot of this stems from the defection of LeBron James to the Miami Heat during the offseason, but how quickly a 60+ wins team in the previous two seasons to what they are now... on the path to owning the highest chance of winning the next NBA Draft Lottery. Another loss and the Cavs will historically be the worst ever.

No deal for the Nets regarding Carmelo Anthony

It was bordering on the ridiculous, but finally, New Jersey Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov put an end to the Carmelo Anthony trade madness. During a meeting with the media, Prokhorov announced that he called off the potential trade between the Nets and Denver Nuggets because the cost for Melo was too expensive and he didn't like the way the trade was being played out in public.

The Nuggets were looking for multiple draft picks, as well as multiple players. However, there were a few reported instances when parameters for a trade were agreed upon, the Nuggets asked for more. It must have been tiring for Nets GM Billy King, but finally, his boss said to forget about it. There must have been a ton of relief by King, who was being looked at as weak and nowhere near former Nets GM Rod Thorn. So, no Melo, but at least there's solid potential for the future for the team.

Carmelo Anthony waiting to be tradedThe Carmelo Anthony trade rumors have been persistent for months with the New Jersey Nets being the most connected team to Melo. The Denver Nuggets and Nets have recruited other teams previously, which didn't work, although this time, a deal that happens with the Detroit Pistons might make a trade work. If it does, the current trade proposal would be the largest in NBA history. However, will all of the particulars work out? If you're the Nets, do you really want to make this trade, which basically deals away any youth and future (aside from Anthony) from the franchise? Talks are still ongoing, but things seem imminent. Get ready to buy a Nets jersey with the number 15.

Kobe Bryant of the Los Angles Lakers is leading the overall voting for the 2011 NBA All-Star game, which is appropriate considering that the game will be played at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Others leading the way for the Western Conference are Chris Paul at the one-guard, Kevin Durant and Carmelo Anthony at the forwards, and oddly, Yao Ming at center. Yao has been out for a bit now due to another injury issue and won't play in the game at all. When the coaches make their reserve selections, one of them will start in Yao's place. In the East, the leading guards in voting are Rajon Rondo and Dwyane Wade with LeBron James and Kevin Garnett in the lead in voting for forwards, and Dwight Howard at the five spot. The official starters will be named on January 27.
