Fantasy Football Impact: Tom Brady Injury

Tom Brady Injury

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady succumbed to an injury yesterday during the Pats’ victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in the first quarter of the game when Chiefs S Bernard Pollard fell on Brady’s knee after a pass attempt.  Reports have Brady tearing his ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) and could possibly be out for the season.  What to do?

IMO: If you’re a Brady owner that probably took him in the first round of your fantasy draft thinking he’d come close to last season’s record-breaking stats, well, you’re probably SOOL (shiznit out of luck) as this does not appear good.  In fact, head coach Bill Belichick, who never reveals anything, has reportedly told his team to prepare to move forward without Brady.

Who To Trade For: Hopefully, you Brady owners have a legit backup.  If you thought Brady would be invincible, you might have someone like Jason Campbell, David Garrard, or even Chad Pennington.  Yikes.  However, you can’t trade for an impact QB like Brady, obviously, or those in the next two tiers that includes players like Tony Romo down to Philip Rivers, without weakening your team even more as a whole.  But, maybe, JUST MAYBE you might be able to get a Carson Palmer owner down on Palmer’s performance yesterday (10-for-25; 99 yards; 0 TD; 1 INT) against a strong Baltimore Ravens defense.  Otherwise, pray that Brady’s injury isn’t as bad as being reported.  However, I hear that all divine beings are on vacation for the next two days, so good luck with that.

Who To Pick Up: Matt Cassel did well in replacing Brady (13-for-18; 152 yards; 1 TD; 0 INT), but former Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Chris Simms will be working out for the Patriots today.  Obviously, if Cassel is still available, Brady owners, pick him up!  For those that want to upgrade their backup QB and/or what to screw the Brady owner in your league, pick up Cassel!  And if you’re too late to hop on the Cassel bandwagon, definitely consider picking up Simms if you have the roster spot to waste.  And I stress waste because you may very well end up dropping him in the near future because Cassel will keep the starting job.
