Announcing the winner of our HP HDX Dragon computer package…
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Announcements, Movies, PC / Laptop, Video Games,

Alright, we’ve hyped it for over a month - the 31 Days of the Dragon contest was our second biggest giveaway in the history of Gear Live. The rules were simple - interact with Gear Live and our community, and don’t spam. You earn points for different actions you take on the site, and the person with the most points at the end of the contest would be declared the winner, as long as they didn’t resort to spamming to get there.
We saw a lot of new activity across the board. Comments, forum posts, gallery comments, new members, and the list goes on…but there could only be one winner. Do note, if you didn’t win, we have another contest starting next week where we will be giving away our customized Gear Live iPhone as the grand prize, with a couple of runner up prizes as well.
Okay, we’ve waiting long enough. The winner of the HP HDX Dragon computer package is…

Apple‘s Worldwide Developer Conference starts on Monday. We already knew what the rumors are. 3G iPhone. OS X Snow Leopard. App Store. iPhone 2.0 firmware. Redesigned iMacs/MacBook Pros. Mac nano. Mobile Me service. Steve Jobs announced as Obama’s running mate. Anything we missed?
Anyhow, one thing we can be certain of is that Apple is focusing on the operating system. As evidenced by the spy shot above, OS X Leopard and OS X iPhone should be getting some premium attention. Makes sense, being that this is a developers conference and all. We have one more spy shot for you after the jump.

Don’t look now (well, you can if you want,) but the biggest online retailer in the universe, Amazon, is currently down. Apparently, they’ve been gone for about an hour and a half at this point. Visiting the site results in the cryptic “Http/1.1 Service Unavailable” message. That’s never good. We actually had something we wanted to purchase with overnight shipping, and if they don’t make it back online, it looks like we will be out of luck. Oh well, I guess we can use competing sites. Don’t forget, in your time of need, you can always use a Newegg promo code to save some cash. Especially while Amazon is having trouble.
Did you know that for every minute of downtime suffered, Amazon is losing out on roughly $31,000.00 USD in sales?
EDIT: Okay, looks like they’re back.

SMK has come up with a prototype TV remote shaped like a water pistol. Power, volume, and channels are all controlled by the trigger. Click once for channel changing, two for on/off, and a click with a button push to change channels. Inside, there is an electromagnetic induction coil with a current of ~20 to 30mA when it gets going, high speed rotation gears, a power circuit, and an infrared light emitting unit. We hope SMK continues their energy-efficient research.
