Best Buy Insignia Blu-ray Player Drops Price
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Corporate News, HDTV, Home Entertainment, Hot Deals, Movies,

Best Buy is selling its Insignia Blu-ray Player for very little funds. The NS-BRDVD features Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD support, has a built-in SD card slot, and upconverts standard DVDs to 1080p. After a $30.00 rebate, the player will set you back only $199.99 and the company is throwing in a coupon book good for $100.00 off select Blue-ray movies. It is available both online and in their stores. Our first impression is to go to the store and compare it with another using the same TV, but we don’t really want to spoil the inexpensive moment.

Unboxing Live 043: Aluminum & Glass MacBook Pro
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Features, Laptop, Videocasts,
Sure, we’ve already put up a MacBook Pro 2008 unboxing gallery, but we figured there might be a few of you out there who’d want to see the unboxing action in video form - so here it is. We bring you a look at the newly redesigned MacBook Pro, which launched just a few days ago. In case you missed it, the MacBook Pro now has an aluminum unibody enclosure, a glass display (which means, glossy - not matte,) and even a glass single-button trackpad.
If you’re wondering how these stack up to the older models, be sure to check out our MacBook and MacBook Pro redesign comparison video.

I first heard about Marvel Comics’ direct to DVD feature “Next Avengers” in Wizard magazine. I thought it was going to be a cartoon starring kids as the Avengers instead of the adults as Captain America, Thor, etc. I also saw some images of what they looked like and I said a big “no” to myself. Why would I want to see kiddy versions of my favorite heroes when I would much rather see adult Avengers in a serious big-time action animated feature? However, a few days ago I found out that the plot of the film actually centered on the children of the Avengers who survive under the care of Iron Man after Ultron kills all of the original Avengers. That sold me.
I work as Librarian and through inter-library loan, I was able to obtain a copy of the film. I sat down last night and watched it and I thought it was really good. I have not seen any other direct to DVD features that Marvel has put out like “Doctor Strange: The Sorcerer Supreme,” so I can’t compare and say this is better or worse. All I can say is I give this movie a big thumbs up.
The film can be a bit juvenile at times. The son of Giant Man and the Wasp is a good example as most of his comedy relief is similar to Disney Channel programs like “That’s So Raven” or “The Suite Life.” I’m sure kids will like it, but more importantly, long-time adult comic fans will love it as well.
I’m sure that more than a few of you have heard of Newegg, the online shopping site that is superb for great prices on hardware. However, what you may not know is that they offer really good prices on last-gen Apple hardware whenever new MacBooks or MacBook Pros are released. Case in point, these Newegg Apple deals. See? $700 off of a brand new MacBook Pro, with the option of a matte screen - better jump on that! Of course, if Apple hardware isn’t your thing, you can hit our forums, where we list tons of Newegg promo code and coupon deals.

Apple Spill Detection Waterproofs Your MacBook Warranty
Posted by Patrick Phelps Categories: Apple, PC / Laptop,

Spill your morning coffee on your MacBook and then take it in for covered warranty service? Those days are ending; water damage is obviously a violation of the AppleCare warranty, and the new MacBook and MacBook Pro computers, introduced last week, include what cellphones have had for years: Liquid Submersion Indicators, which alert technicians to water damage. Located under the keyboard and near the trackpad, the sensors change color when exposed to a liquid. Once these sensors are activated, there is no way to undo the process, so you’re just gonna have to fess up next time, so please - no more Shirley Temples near the hardware, okay?

Drobo Gets Apps To Serve You
Posted by Aaron Zollo Categories: Accessories, USB, Internet, Movies, Music, Peripherals, Software, Storage, Videos,
Drobo has been out for quite some time and serves the purpose of a “set-it-and-forget-it” backup solution. Drobo has added a few apps that bring a nice “value-add” to their storage capability. Data Robotics has released 19 applications for Drobo, and they seem to be highlighting three of those specifically due to their value to the average consumer. First, there’s the DroboApps Admin Utility, which allows you to manage your DroboApps via a web interface. The second is Yoics, which gives you remote access to your Drobo and DroboShare from a web browser or mobile device like the iPhone. Lastly, they are highlighting the Firefly iTunes Media Server that allows you to store all of your music, TV, and video content on the Drobo, and then serve that content to iTunes devices or computers around your home.
If you don’t yet have a storage solution and need a very reliable backup which also serves your media, then you should check out Drobo. They range in price from $349 to $1049 and offer USB 2.0 and Firewire depending on the model you choose. In order to take advantage of the apps, you’ll also need the DroboShare NAS module, which will run you $199, on top of the cost of the Drobo itself.

We just had to share this site that we recently heard about. In a world of expensive electronics, there are actually some that you can get for free. Hey, It’s Free is a daily listing of all things that require no money to acquire. There are music and e-book downloads, links to old NES games online, free text messaging sites and even USB flash drives. While many of them expire rather quickly, it’s worth taking a look at the site as Goob and staff make sure that each of the items are checked out before posting.
