Dell Announces The Inspiron Mini 12: $600, 12-inch display
Posted by Ponzi Black Categories: PC / Laptop,
Dell has officially announced the newest member to their netbook family of mini laptops, the Inspiron Mini 12. The Mini 12 comes with an Intel Atom Z520 1.3GHz or the Z530 1.6GHZ processor, 80GB hard drive, 1GB of RAM, Bluetooth, WiFi, a Webcam and a 12-inch display. The laptop comes loaded with Windows Vista Home Basic, and has a starting price of less than $600. The Mini 12 is currently only available in Japan, but will come to the U.S. soon.
The specs make this a very capable machine, but running Vista with only 1GB of RAM make take some of the wind out of its sprint. You could always load it with XP when it arrives and then have a very fast machine, the likes of the MacBook Air, but for a fraction of the price.

Apple shipping iPhone USB power adapter in huge box
Posted by Aaron Zollo Categories: Accessories, USB, Apple, Peripherals,
Apple has had a a mind for all things “green” as stated in their past two keynotes. A few weeks back, Apple recalled the iPhone power adapters because the prongs were breaking off into the wall socket, which could cause an obvious jolt of unpleasant experiences. Apple offered two ways to replace the USB adapter, by mail or by going to their stores. The people who chose to have it sent by mail have been surpised to find that the new, greener Apple has shipped the small adapter in a box that about 100 times its size. I am sure Apple will take notice and do something about it, but it seems all the eggs are not in the basket when it comes to their “green initiative.” This just proves that going “green” takes time, and within a large company such as Apple it will continue to take months—or years—for them to achieve their goals. If you have an iPhone and live close to an Apple store, you can do your part by exchanging it yourself. If you are out of range of an Apple store and have done the exchange, let us know if you have had the same “large box” experience.

Fallout 3 Comes To Steam For Preload
Posted by Aaron Zollo Categories: Action, Downloadable Content, Games for Windows, PC, Role Playing Games,

If you are anxiously awaiting the release of Fallout 3 and want to raise your level of anxiety a notch, you can pre-download Fallout 3 via Steam at this very moment. A few games have done this in the past, the most recent being Spore. Instead of going to the store and getting your copy of the game, you simply purchase the game online through Steam. Steam then allows you to download the game the moment you’ve paid for it, which will then unlock itself at 12:01 AM October 28th.
All of this is assuming you have a PC, and that this is where you plan on experiencing Fallout 3. If you have an Xbox 360 or PS3, you will have to wait for your local midnight launch party or until the morning of release day to call the game your very own.

HP is now showing this new Mini 1000 Netbook on their online store. The Mini 1000 is not yet available to purchase and when clicking HP’s link, it brings you to their main store where it is nowhere to be found. They do however give you the price and some general specs. The mini laptop sports a nice gloss black finish on the outside, with a matte black finish inside. The price starts at $399 and comes in at 2.25 pounds, has a 10-inch screen and is under 1-inch thick. We can assume the Mini 1000 will carry the Intel Atom processor, but there is no confirmation of that just yet. If using an Atom processor, this Netbook from HP should provide a nice jump over previous Via chipsets in HP’s past offerings. You should be able to do all the internet has to offer, including videos, music and more with a fullsize experience for such a small piece of gear.

Woman Takes Revenge on Online Ex Via Avatar
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Role Playing Games,
There is gaming, and then there is extreme gaming. A woman in Japan has been arrested for killing off her ex- online husband’s avatar in Maple Story. Apparently, the 43 year-old hacked into the game using his ID and password, then did the dirty virtual deed. Although she hasn’t yet been formally charged, she could face up to a 5 year bout in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.00. We think a fitting punishment might be a forced stay on Second Life for about six months.

Wearable USB flash drives are more commonplace every day, but it’s not often that they actually come in such a unique style. What could be better than the Skull Drive that comes in 8 colors? It has 2GB storage and a designer price of $145.00. Too pricey? Wait for the Lisco USB Snake Bracelet to become more than a prototype. Made of polyurethane, the retro device snaps on your wrist, ankle, backpack, etc.

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Smartphones, Corporate News, GPS, Handhelds, Wireless / WiFi,
By now, you have probably seen the new BlackBerry Bold Commercial, the one that says almost nothing but “wow.” Wow again at the proposed price when it comes out. AT&T has announced that the RIM device will cost $299.99 with a 2 year contract, more than they charge for the iPhone. Sales should begin around November 4 to welcome in the upcoming holidays. The Bold will support international navigation services and Wi-fi for folks who do a lot of traveling. One analyst, Chris King of Stifel Nicolas, says the appeal will be mostly exec types. HP’s newest USB flash drive does more than just the usual storage chores. The Floppy Drive Key has a switch that will allow you to go from USB 2.0 to, as the name implies, become a floppy drive. This is good news for those of us who have older computers that still have one and not enough USB ports. The plug and play device comes in a 256MB version for $49.00 and 1GB for $79.00. We figure the plainness of it is more than made up for by its pulling double duty.
