Taito Chokkan Classic Music Application
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Smartphones, Music, Software, Videos,
Game maker Taito has teamed with NTT DoCoMo and come up a clever app that lets users play in an orchestra with their fingers. The Chokkan Classic software is part of their i-mode Internet service. Participants move a finger in front of their cell phone’s sensor. Once they remove their finger, the music stops. The application allows the ability to sync with others to create a concert. This demonstration certainly makes it appear simple but then again the participants look a little silly.

MINOX Agent M Belt Camera
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Cameras, Wearables, Portable Audio / Video, USB,
We figure that since most people don’t really peek at others’ belt buckles, the MINOX Agent M Belt Camera would be a fun accessory for any wannabe spy. At a length of 110 cm, it features r/t recording in 3GP video with a QCIF resolution of 176 x 144 pixels at 15fps. The cam supports digital voice recording, runs on a Li-ion battery and allows for storage up to 2 GB on Micro SD/T flash cards. At a price of €229.00 (~$299.00,) the belt comes with a USB cord and probably isn’t recommended for really short 007 types.

Motorola Aura Cell Phone
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Smartphones, Design, Wireless / WiFi,
We know we can’t afford those high end cellies, but we covet them all the same. Motorola has introduced its Aura with 16 million color support and a 300dpi resolution. The stainless steel case takes 2 weeks to make with a finish that is used on luxury watches. Even the swivel mechanism is custom engineered by the Swiss. Inside there is a 2 megapixel cam, 2GB memory, stereo Bluetooth, a music player, GSM support, and Motorola’s CrystalTalk with speakerphone capability. The Aura should be out in time for the holiday season, undoubtedly at a price that none of us can afford.

The Mac mini has had a good run, but it sounds like Apple has decided to give the mini the ax. The smallest and cheapest Mac is no longer shipping or available for order, according to a couple large retailers in Europe say Gizmodo. Apple has a large financial call taking place today in which the mini is expected to get cut from the Mac lineup. Lets hope this is in preparation for an upcoming Mac mini (Mac nano?) at January’s MacWorld Expo as many suspected the mini to get a makeover, not a going away present.
The Mac Mini is still available on the Apple store, so you may want to get it now if you were thinking it over.

Gmail Now Offers Drunken E-mailing Protection
Posted by Patrick Phelps Categories: Google, PC / Laptop, Software,
First there was drunk dialing – with a virtual Rolodex of both personal and work-related contact information just a keystroke away, it was only a matter of time before Google Labs came up with an idea to combat the latest device of the cocktail-inspired composer: drunk e-mailing. Mail Goggles, a new Gmail feature offered only on weekends between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. was created with the intoxicated in mind. The program requires users who’ve enabled the function to perform five simple math problems within 60 seconds of clicking the send button, just to verify that you’re in the right state of mind – a designated driver on the so-called information superhighway.

This has to be the ultimate in portable computer gaming. Designer Tai Chiem has designed his version of the Sony PSP2. The prototype features a flexible OLED display. An electric charge stiffens the display. On either side are stereo speakers that double as camera control and jog wheel. At the very least Sony should talk to Tai to discuss his and the PSP’s future, don’t you think?

Buckypaper May Replace Heavy Metal
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: PC / Laptop, Science, Transportation,
Buckypaper may look like regular carbon paper, but is in actual fact Florida State University’s Ben Wang’s material that is 10 times lighter but up to 500 times stronger than steel when stacked and pressed. It has the capability of conducting electricity and dispensing heat. The material is made from tube-shaped carbon molecules 50,000x thinner than a human’s hair. Applications would include energy-efficient aircraft and cars, and more powerful computers. At this point buckypaper, which came out of the discovery of the buckyball (a form of pure carbon,) is only made at half of its strength and is very expensive to produce, FSU is planning to developing it commercially in the next 12 months, according to Wang.

With the Minoru (which means “reality”) Webcam from Novo and a pair of glasses, you can see in 3D via Skype, Microsoft Live Messenger and other IMs. It apparently also makes 3D images and videos that can then be uploaded to social sites such as YouTube, although those wanting to see it will need glasses, too. Arriving in December at a price of $100.00, we figure that this is a bit overpriced and overcomplicated.
