Amazon wrap rage

After years upon years of frustrated purchasers cutting themselves on clamshell plastic cases, a company has stood up and proclaimed “No more!”. This morning, a letter from CEO Jeff Bezos appeared on the main page of the site, informing visitors that the company will now be working with leading manufacturers to deliver products “inside smaller, easy-to-open, recyclable cardboard boxes with less packaging material (and no frustrating plastic clamshells or wire ties).” They are calling it “Frustration-free Packaging.” Really? Could a world really exist where you can simply buy a product, open a box, and easily remove said product from said box—without having to scour the immediate vicinity for a box cutter? We know, it sounds too good to be true. We applaud Amazon for standing up for both the environment, and our cut up fingers.

Wally West Lives!

Flash

For years we have been hearing that Barry Allen, the Silver Age Flash, is coming back to life.  The death of Barry Allen in Crisis on Infinite Earths angered many long-time DC fans.  As you know, Wally West, the former Kid Flash, took on the mantle of the Flash.  At first, Wally was not welcomed by the fans.  Although many had loved him as Kid Flash fighting alongside Barry and then in the Teen Titans, to them Wally was not the Flash.  It took a while, but finally many came to accept and even like that Wally was the Flash - a large part due to Mark Waid’s classic first run on the Flash title.

Over the years we’ve seen Barry Allen return in some form.  We would see him traveling through time just prior to his death in Crisis.  He would show up, fight, but always return to his own time because he would have to die to save the universe.  Now he’s back again.  With the current Final Crisis storyline we have seen Barry return once again, but this time it was announced that this would, in fact, be for good.  Even the NY Daily News announced his return.

SL ProtestThe r/t world isn’t the only place with housing problems. Some residents of Second Life were so upset at Linden Lab’s recently announced hike in their purchase and maintenance fees that about 800 protested on the virtual site with signs outside their SL office, some going as far as setting their avatars on fire. CEO Mark Kingdon claims that it will only be directed to select landowners, and will not apply to those on the regular mainland or private islands. Considering that there are about 8,000 less subscribers this year than last, we can understand their reasoning. Then again, you can always take up residence in another OpenSim neighborhood.
