Batman

There has been some talk on message boards that “R.I.P.” of the “Batman: R.I.P” storyline does not stand for the traditional “rest in peace.”  Grant Morrison, the writer of “Batman: R.I.P.,” is now saying that it can mean anything you want it to mean.  Also, Morrison teased that there will be a NEW Batman and Robin.  At the beginning of “Batman: R.I.P.,” we saw an image of a Batman and Robin and this Batman stated that there will always be a Batman and Robin.  Will it be Tim and Damian?  Dick and Damian?  Or are Bruce and Tim different people at the end of the story and they are the “new” Batman and Robin.  We’ll see come November 19th in “Batman” 681.

Waiting for Cap

Captain America

Many fans of Captain America have been waiting years for a big budget Captain America film.  Shortly after the release and success of last year’s “Iron Man” film, Marvel Comics announced that we would also be seeing a film staring Thor, The Avengers, and Captain America.  Like most comic book fans I’m worried.  I’m worried it’s going to suck big time.

Almost no comic book movie is perfect.  Very few have come close.  I would say the first Donner/Reeve “Superman” film and the more recent “Iron Man” and “Dark Knight” have made nitty picky and overly critical fan boys (like myself) the most happy.  What makes most comic fans cringe the most is when Hollywood decides to make changes to the character or the story.  Sometimes it works like Richard Donner’s vision of Krypton.  The “ice” was loved by the fans and the look has now been incorporated into current DC continuity thanks to Geoff Johns and Richard Donner himself who co-wrote the story “Last Son” for “Action Comics”.

Motorola_ZINE_ZN5_Camera-sideMotorola_ZINE_ZN5_Phone-side

Motorola‘s 5-megapixel ZN5 cameraphone arrived online and in select corporate T-Mobile stores this morning. Unlike most camera phone’s, the quad-band ZN5 takes high resolution photos using Kodak Imaging Technology – including autofocus, low-light optimization, and a real Xenon flash. Once you’ve snapped a picture, it can be instantly sent via MMS, WiFi or Bluetooth – or you can store it on 350MB of internal memory which is expandable up to 4GB via microSD.

With a price as low as $99 with a 2-year contract, we think this will be a popular new choice; however, the phone lacks support for T-Mobile’s new 3G network, opting instead for EDGE, which will certainly make some think twice before signing up.

Microsoft Kiosk

Microsoft, in a clever move, located an “I’m a PC” recording kiosk outside an Apple Store in Birmingham, England. By the way, if you really are a PC, you can upload a photo or video online and you might find yourself in one of their commercials. The company has already selected several of them in ads that are airing on network TV and are part of a $300 million advertising campaign. We’re all for any idea that doesn’t feature Gates and Seinfeld.

Sharp Aquos Fulltouch 931SHThe Japanese always manage to get the best cell phones first and we always hope they trickle over to the U.S. and the new Sharp Aquos Fulltouch 931SH is no exception to the rule.  This new cell phone is an obvious response to the and its touch technology.  The one thing that sets this cell phone apart is the incredible screen resolution of 1024 x 480, bringing it close to that of a netbook.  The 931SH also incorporates a 5.2 megapixel camera with stabilizer technology, a 1seg TV tuner, Bluetooth with A2DP, an accelerometer, web browser, media player, a microSD slot and of course, a touch screen as the name implies.  The phone also works on all 3G networks, making it viable for U.S. as well as world-wide consumption, although no time-frame has been mentioned.

Homer Talking Clock hgAnother Simpsons gadget has hit the market. The Homer Talking Cuckoo Clock is about 21.5 x 23cm and runs on 4 AA batteries (not included.) When the hour strikes, Homey leaves Moe’s Tavern just long enough to shout “Woo Hoo” however many hours it is. Fortunately, the timepiece is light sensitive so you don’t have to listen to him at night. This gives him enough time for a couple more Duffs before the next morning. The clock is available for $49.31.
