Linkin Park Back in the Studio

Linkin ParkLinkin Park have started on the follow up to A Thousand Suns with Rick Rubin. The "Shadow of the Day" group have "been in the studio writing" with the legendary producer, coming up with new ideas and revisiting material they started during sessions for their last album in 2010.

"Typically we'll have a once a week meeting to go listen to the songs that they're coming up with and talk about them. For so early in the project, they are much further along than they have been on the last two albums we did. On A Thousand Suns there were still a lot of irons in the fire. We knew, 'OK, we can't do this forever. Let's leave this batch and we'll come back and address it when we start up again," Rick said.

Linkin Park recently headlined Download festival in the UK, although their set did not feature any new material.

Linkin Park

Linkin Park’s new album has been a “challenge.”

Singer Mike Shinoda - who spoke about his band’s much-anticipated follow-up to 2007’s Minutes to Midnight - said the album was taking so long because they were trying out a different style of music.

“We make records as a challenge to ourselves. And the challenge this time is: ‘Nobody else is making a record that sounds like this, only we can do it,’” Mike explained MTV.com. “It’s been going great, I feel like it’s an entirely different process and an entirely different style of music than anything we’ve done before. It’s hard to place. People keep asking me, ‘What does it sound like?’ and it’s hard to describe. When people hear it, they’re going to have a tough time saying that it falls into a category.”
