The Foo Fighters will star in a documentary following the making of their new album.
The five-piece band have announced an eight-part TV series airing on HBO and directed by the band's frontman Dave Grohl. Each episode will follow the "Rope" rockers' journey to a different US city - Chicago, Austin, Nashville, Los Angeles, Seattle, New Orleans, Washington DC and New York - where they'll visit legendary studios to record tracks for their eighth album.
The documentary will act as a follow up to Dave's award-winning directorial debut Sound City which followed the history of the recording studio Sound City Studios in Los Angeles, California and opened to commercial and critical acclaim in January last year.
"Dave's heartfelt passion for this project is contagious and his talent as a musician and filmmaker is undeniable. We are excited to go on this journey with him and the Foo Fighters for this insider's look at how regional music inspired them to create their own new music," said Michael Lombardo, president of HBO Programming.

Dave Grohl came close to arranging a collaboration between Weezer and Barry Manilow. The Foo Fighters frontman was keen to forge an unlikely pairing between the "Hash Pipe" rockers and the 69-year-old crooner for a track on his Sound City Studios documentary soundtrack and thinks the song could have been a hit.
"I was this f***ing close to getting them on a record. I thought it was going to happen. It would've been f***ing huge," he said.
The rocker admitted Barry was keen to take part in the project, but proved difficult to track down: "He was the first person who said he'd do it but was the last we tracked down. And we had to fly to f***ing Hawaii."
The documentary threw up several collaborations, including one between Dave, his former Nirvana bandmates Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear, and Paul McCartney.

Kurt Cobain Documentary in the Works

A documentary about Kurt Cobain is being made.
The late Nirvana star's wife, Courtney Love, has approached filmmaker Brett Morgan about the project, which has reportedly been in the works since 2007. Brett told The New York Post, "Courtney is the one that brought me into this. We've been trying to find the right time to put this film together and the time is now."
Brett - who directed a recent film about The Rolling Stones, Crossfire Hurricane - also explained how the movie will not be a straight documentary about the singer and guitarist, who committed suicide in 1994, but made in an "autobiographical" way. "Kurt was not only an amazing songwriter and musician, he was an incredible artist and filmmaker. So we are going to do the movie sort of like a third-person autobiography - as if Kurt was around and making a film about his life," he added.

Courtney Love is planning a film about Kurt Cobain's life.
The Hole rocker is working on either a musical or a movie about the lives of her and her late Nirvana singer husband, who committed suicide in 1994.
"[Courtney Love and I] are currently working on a possible motion picture or Broadway musical based on the Nirvana catalogue, based on her life and Kurt Cobain's. She's an accomplished actress," said Sam Lutfi, who claims to be her co-manager.
Sam made his claims in a Los Angeles court, where he is suing former client Britney Spears' parents for libel and breach of contract. A source close to 48-year-old Courtney confirmed the movie plans, telling the New York Daily News, "She's been talking about doing a movie or play about her life with Kurt for a long time. It's been her dream to get her side of the story out."

Spike Lee: Bad 25 Was Good Pressure
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Upcoming Releases, Pop,
Spike Lee couldn't let people down with his Michael Jackson documentary. The filmmaker has been working on Bad 25 - which examines the making of the late King of Pop's classic 1987 album - and was excited by the challenge of living up to the "pressure" of fans' expectations.
"It's good pressure. You can't let people down. If this had been sub-par I'd have been torn limb from limb," he said.
Spike has admired the "Thriller" hitmaker - who died of acute Propofol intoxication in June 2009 - all his life and admits his passing left him "messed up" for some time. "I'm a filmmaker, I love what I do and I grew up admiring and loving Michael Jackson. I saw him in 1969 on TV. He had a big afro and I wanted to be him. Michael's life deeply affected people and they miss him. His death messed me up for a month or two. He touched so many people," he said when asked why he made the film.
