Carrie UnderwoodCarrie Underwood writes for herself.

The "Before He Cheats" singer tries not to worry about the business side of her career and instead just concentrates on writing music that she enjoys singing.

"I try not to think too much about what other people want from me. I feel like that's somebody else's job to be like, 'Carrie, you've gone too far.' I don't know statistics, and I don't know what kind of songs people download more. I just know what I like, and I know when I'm singing what feels good for me to sing and what songs I'd turn up on the radio and which ones I'd change. So I kind of write for myself, I sing for myself, and if people like it, I guess they're a lot like me."

Mutt Lange offered Carrie the song "Who Are You" for her latest album Blown Away and she was thrilled the legendary producer wanted to work with her: "He submitted it. He sent it in. He's really secretive and private about what he has. Lord knows how many songs he has stashed away some place, but I guess he had me in mind at some point. I don't know when he wrote it, but somewhere along the way he must have thought, 'Hey, Carrie would sound good on this.' I don't know what he thought but I'm glad whatever he thought, he thought it, because he sent it in.

Jay-Z and Kanye WestJay-Z and Kanye West are to record another album together.

The duo - who are currently on a joint European tour - are planning to return to the studio to work on another record following the success of last year's Watch The Throne.

"It's not started yet, but it's coming," producer Mike Dean promised.

In December, Jay admitted he was keen to record with Kanye again, but only after they'd each returned to their solo projects: "It depends on how this thing finishes up. We - I say 'we' because I'm in Throne mode - we're in a great place creatively. You might see a Jay, then Kanye and a Throne album next year. You know, we're really in a great place creatively. We really found our zone."

Steven TylerSteven Tyler thinks releasing an album is like surfing.

The Aerosmith frontman is hoping the group's forthcoming new album Music from Another Dimension will spawn several successful singles and is thrilled with the finished record.

"Your album is like a wave, and you ride that album all the way and see what you got. Hopefully we have three or four singles deep, which means radio play. [Producer] Jack Douglas and I and Joe Perry... We worked this thing for the last year, and we're so happy about it," he said.

Steven believes the record is a good representation of the band as people - which is useful as he often doesn't know who he is: "It's the kind of thing where it represents who you are. Who are you? We don't know. Sometimes our music speaks for us so this album - as Joe said on one of his solo records - 'Let the music do the talking,' and this one does."

The album, Music from Another Dimension, will be released in August, preceded by the single, "Legendary Child."

KeshaKesha likes to tattoo everyone she works with.

The "We R Who We R" singer collaborated with The Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne on a few songs for the group's new album The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends, and when she turned up, decided to etch an inking on his body.

"Most of the time, if someone's willing to work with me, they're going to be a freak. And Kesha... I sort of thought that she would be a freak, I'd heard about her and we'd tried to get a hold of her earlier. We showed up at her house, and she has a tattoo gun that she gives everyone a tattoo with, so within 20 minutes of being at her house, I had a tattoo on my toe; it's the only tattoo I've ever had," Wayne said.

Wayne says he was hugely impressed with Kesha and he learnt a lot form spending time with her: "We were set to do this one song that I had prepared, and we went into the studio that night, and stayed there until about two in the morning, and did four songs, just making stuff up. And the next day [we] worked for another couple hours. She's funny, she's gracious, she's imaginative, she's creative and she's a lot of fun to be around."

EminemEminem is "starting to toy" with his next album.

The "Love the way You Lie" rapper is currently in the studio finishing the debut record with his hip-hop supergroup Slaughterhouse, but has also started gathering ideas for his next solo album.

"Right now, I'm actually finishing up everything on the Slaughterhouse album and kind of getting into my next record a little bit. That's basically the couple of things that I've been working on. I'm starting to toy with a new album, yes," he said.

Slaughterhouse sees Eminem team with fellow rappers Joel Ortiz, Joe Budden, Crooked I and Royce da 5'9" and he thinks they have are a much needed force in hip-hop: "I really feel like this group, hip-hop needs this, man, and I think people are going to see that when this album comes out man."

Boy GeorgeBoy George thinks all today's pop records sound the same.

The "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me" singer thinks today's crop of pop stars are more interested in personal gain than making a difference to the world, and most of their records are boring as a result.

"Pop, I think, just goes in waves, and I think technology kind of makes everyone make the same record. I think the problem at the moment, and has been for a while, is that everybody wants to make loads of money, because that seems to be the most important thing. They all want the fur coat, nobody wants to change the world - and that's the problem. Technology is a great thing because it's opened up the doors for people, but when you hear things it's just, 'It's the new this, it's the new version of that' and it's just like, 'Yawn,'" he told BANG Showbiz, speaking at the Ivor Novello awards.

Vampire WeekendVampire Weekend have "many songs" ready for their third album.

The "Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa" group are working on their next album and plotting to take their sound into uncharted territory. "The goal is to do something new with each record. I like the idea of being able to do your own thing, and then also coming together and making a band record," said bassist Chris Baio, who is also preparing his first solo release.

However, the group have no definite release date for the record, with Chris adding, "It'll be done when it's done. That's where it is now."

Chris' solo tracks are much more influenced by dance music, and he says he started the project as soon as he got off the road with Vampire Weekend, which also includes Ezra Koenig, Rostam Batmanglij and Chris Tomson.

"I've loved dance music for a long time. When I got off the road, I knew I would have some time off. It affects me badly if I'm just sitting around, so I just started making music straight away," he added to NME magazine.

Joe Perry and Steven Tyler of AerosmithAerosmith will release their new single in "three or four weeks."

The veteran "Walk This Way" rockers are putting the finishing touches to the follow up to 2004's Honkin' On Bobo and excited the record - which they say will sound "modern and hi-fi" - is almost complete.

"It's really close. We've started to mix. We've mixed a couple of the songs already, but I guess this week we're really kind of rolling into mix mode. We have a couple of tracks left to finish up, just to put some overdubs on, but we're kind of going from the final, final recording tracks to mixing this week. The record's gonna sound modern and hi-fi. We're not sitting around going, 'We're gonna do Night in the Ruts again or Rocks again.' We want to make a modern sounding record, but the main thing is the energy that the early records had," guitarist Joe Perry told Rolling Stone magazine.

The new track "Legendary Child," which is likely to feature on the record, will also appear on the soundtrack to new film G.I. Joe: Retaliation. Singer Steven Tyler said the recording of the song was great, especially Joe's contribution on guitar: "It's gonna be slammin'. Joe was on fire. Wait, you'll see."

Mumford and SonsMumford and Sons has finished recording their new album - but may not release it.

The group have been working hard on the follow-up to 2009's Sigh No More and admits they will scrap the record if it doesn't meet their high standards.

"We've done recording it but if we listen back while we're mixing and discover it's s**t then we'll just start again. We're not going to put it out until it's good enough," said keyboard player Ben Lovett.

The band are planning to play new tracks at their summer dates because they enjoy seeing the crowd's response to new material. "Playing the songs like helped shape them because we get to listen to them through the crowd's ears," banjo player Winston Marshall explained to NME magazine.

And the group are quick to reassure fans not to expect a radical departure from their previous material on the new album. "[Frontman] Marcus [Mumford] made a joke that the album wasn't doom folk and we don't really know why he did that. We'd just like to assure everyone that it is doom folk," Winston added.
